This is so helpful! I've only had my machine and walking foot for a couple of months, and I've been afraid to use this foot because it looks so complicated. Now that I'm nearly finished with my first quilt, it's time to figure it out, and you've helped me immensely. Thank you so much! You've taken a lot of the fear away. I love your videos!
have just bought a walking foot for my old style 801 Bernina, thankyou so much for sharing this video. i looked at several other videos yours was the only consise explanation. so looking forward to trying it out.
Shelly always adds points in addition to her subject that are golden! Here, for instance, getting the thread under the foot and presser foot pressure change. And look at her ease putting that walking foot on! Great video.
I always REALLY enjoy your videos! I’m binge watching/listening to them again as I’m cutting out a baby quilt. I have to study the embroidery & cut tool ones in front of the TV, but it’s always good to re-hear your tips. If you teach classes, I’ll bet your students are now expert happy quilters!
Shelly, my duel feed machine is in for service and my 335 is not grabbing the fabric equally. Hence, go to Shelly. I haven’t used a walking foot in ages. Your instruction was excellent. Miss your classes.
Well. I’ve learnt something new today. I’ve had walking feet for all my Bernina’s since the 70’s and I’ve never been shown how to put them on and I’ve always put them on with my left hand. Soooo much easier with the right hand. Thank you Shelly.
Thank you! I was just trying this foot on my machine. I swear I read the instructions but they don't tell you what to do that thing that goes over the needle bar so of course mine was not walking. Thank you thank you thank you!
Any input about the aftermarket walking feet kits out there? The Quilters out there - let me know? Thanks. The one I bought 40 years ago works on my Necchi, White & Slant 401. I scored a Berni 930 for the grand daughter & she needs the tool accessories!
Your BERNINA dealer can get a walking foot for the 930. Actually any of the feet can be purchased for the older machines. I still love my 930. She is a workhorse.
Hi great video, just a quick question, can we use the walking foot instead of the blindstitch foot #5? the walking foot has 3 type of attachments. I have a bernina 1008. Is it worth me investing in the blind stitch foot or will the walking foot suffice? Thanks so much.
If you have one that would be great. I do not have one for my 9mm machine and have no issues. It is nice to have the smallest opening for control of the fabric.
Yes! one of the lines on the foot is 1/4 inch. just get your measuring tape or ruler to decide which one it is. It is marked both to the left and the right.
Do they need oiling? I’ve hardly used mine but I used it the other day and after a few stitched squares it became very noisy and stitched poorly so I gave up with it!
Yes. It is for a different style of stitching. The BSR is for free motion quilting with the feed dogs down. The walking foot is for 3 or more layers with the feed dogs up.
@@gaylevaughn if you dont stitch anything heavier than a quilt, you will be fine without one. You will know when you need the extra "umph" from a walking foot
Is there a way to adjust the guide on this foot? If I use it to stitch in the ditch my stitches are not in the ditch even though the guide is right along the seaplane.
Hello, your site id great. I have used it to try to attach my walking foot to my machine, I have accounted a problem my walking foot has the little node only on the left side, I need it on the right. I got the machine from my mum, and this included the foot. is there any way to attach it, the clamp that attaches all the feet and arms is the opposite to yours.
It is Bernina 150. I have ordered one but this one i have has the connection on the wrong side. I will let you know if my new one works. It should come October 30th.
I assume everything can break. I would just make sure that you are hooking the fork of the walking foot over the needle bar so that it raises and lowers making the foot walk.
I have a Bernina Virtuosa 150 QE, it came with the two sole #50 walking foot. One of the other posters asked if the edge stitch sole was available as a stand alone part. I've trolled the Internet looking for a source for this sole plate. Do you know of a source to purchase this attachment? TY
Hello, I am trying to find a part for my wife. She has a walking foot #50 and needs a part. I guess you would call it a connector for the seam guides? It looks like a squared off horse shoe with a screw on it. I'm new on RUclips and cannot figure out how to put a picture here. Thanks for any help someone can give me.
Yes. The new walking feet came out 4 or 5 years ago and the seam guides work well with the dual feed machines. You can tell if the one you have is new or old by how.many soles are with the foot. New had 3 total including the one on the foot and the old style has 2 total including the one on the foot.
Does the walking foot you have fit on aB750 Quilters Edition. I got a lot of error messages that not all feet work with this device. Maybe I was using wrong stitch plate. What are the set up requirements, pressure, stitch length?
Your walking foot should work fine in the 750. Any stitch. The walking foot has a maximum stitch width of 5.5mm. Choose the style of stitch, width and length according to your project.
On mine you cant attach the guides. The new walking foot does have the part you screw into the back. I have the 750 QE. Another couple hundred dollars waisted.
@@jeannepalmer7240 if you look online I think you can find a workaround to use the guides on your old walking foot so it does not hit the dual feed. That is what everyone did before the new one came.out. Your walking foot without the guide should work just fine.

Ohmygosh, thank you so much for this! I have been shopping for a preowned set and thought I could go with the style that came with two soles.
All Bernina accessories are outrageously high priced!
OMG! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your instruction is EXCELLENT!!!! I'm not going to throw away the dammed foot now!!! ROTFL!!!!!

Great video, one of the best I have seen!
Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I just bought a used one for 50% & looking forward to using it.
Very helpful Shelly I will try again. I don’t have much room when attaching the walking foot. It’s been difficult.

You will need a blindstitch foot. This will edgestitch.
Shelly would you recommend using a 5.5 mm stitch plate with the walking foot? Thanks for your brilliant demonstration.
If you have one that would be great. I do not have one for my 9mm machine and have no issues. It is nice to have the smallest opening for control of the fabric.
I mostly sew knits & wondered if there is any markings on the walking foot that help you achieve a 1/4 inch seam allowance?

excellent video.
Thanks so much Shelly!

I do not know how to oil it. Yes it can be oiled but I have no idea how. I should figure it out and when I do I will post.
If I have a BSR do I still need a Walking Foot? I have the 770 QE … thank you!
Yes. It is for a different style of stitching. The BSR is for free motion quilting with the feed dogs down. The walking foot is for 3 or more layers with the feed dogs up.
@@SewShelly Got it … thank you Shelly! So I will need to purchase a walking foot even though I have the BSR and dual feed foot then? YOW!

This walking foot is for a BERNINA machine. You need to get a walking foot that is made for your model and manufacturer of the machine.

Unrelated, but where can I buy a mat similar to the one in your video? Thanks for the tips!
Just do a search for self-healing cutting mat and you will find many options. Check with your local quilt shops also.

The only thing I would know to suggest is to take it into a BERNINA dealer for service.

You can purchase the sole with edge stitch guide all by itself to attach to your older walking foot.
