Personally, I always thought Eddie Guerrero was better then Shawn at all the things Shawn gets praised for. I was a Bret guy and always preferred Bret. Kurt Angle is probably the best all around talent I've ever seen and a better worker then Shawn.
WWF was at it lowest peak when Bret was champ. I can name 50 better technicians, but HBK was a master in the ring, so was Eddie. But Shawn was having 5 star matches before Eddie even became mainstream and Eddie is easily on my top 3 all time. Kurt is a timeless talent, but what that gotta do with HBK. What HBK delivered in the 90s was the perfect set up for the attitude era for Austin/Rock. HBK delivered on more Wrestlemanias. not sure if you forgot. Bret is great, but his WCW run was depressing. TBH WWF made Bret a hit and once he left he didn't draw as much as his peak, during a time people considered WWF at it's lowest. Also, HBK delivered tons of storylines and this is sports entertainment. Bret wasn't good in terms of acting or the mic skills. In the ring, he was a god. HBK is respected for legit reasons.
I still don’t see how Flair or Michaels are “Best workers in the business…”. Their matches generally were the same match. Gimmicks. Corny stuff. 1986 Steamboat vs Bret Hart is much better than any Flair vs Steamboat match. Michaels vs 123 Kid is nothing close to Bret Hart vs 124 Kid.
I've been hearing cornys name an awful lot the last few days. Every wrestling podcast around has mentioned him and what he said about cm punk. I have a feeling jimmy is gonna pop up in the AEW pretty soon.
JR is dead wrong on this issue. You never mess with a talent's performance/legitimacy in the ring, especially the #1 face in your company. Horrible take, especially in 1996.
Jim Cornette on Shawn Michaels finding God: “it’s amazing how many people have religious epiphanies the moment they’ve alienated the last of their friends”
They didn’t have ‘heat’ in that respect. Cornette just called Michaels bluff. Cornette didn’t like Michaels and that was that. Michaels would argue with Cornette about the Vader situation. Vader overheard and Michaels had to explain. Of course, Michaels went to Vince and cried😂. Cornette snapped and vowed vengeance.
Between Shawn Michaels, Kevin Dunn, and Vince Russo, Cornette couldn't get out of Connecticut fast enough lol. It worked out for the best, a lot of generational talent was developed under his watch in OVW although his temper got the best of him in the end.
Shawn was still a kid. I think he earned a lot at a young age. Not sure at the time he had the maturity too Handle it. But god bless him he seems too have found god and turned his life around.
Talking about those days watching it on tv it was really fun. SM was brilliant on the mic and in the ring. JC was brilliant on the mic and at ringside. I remember absolutely hating Cornette and his stupid ass tennis racket. Now knowing it was all a work I love everything they did because they did what they needed to do they made it fun.
Yeah go to Jim coronet's podcast and listen to that annoying little asshole. That man is stuck in a Time Warp that he refuses to get out of. Old school wrestling is dead deal with it
I realise Cornette has his critics but I think part of it is that he doesnt kiss ass or play politics like others. As usual, there is fault on both sides. Corny's opinion that Shawn was a complete prick in the mid '90s has been echoed many times, including by HBK himself. That said, JC's complaining about the more irreverent way Michaels began doing things is simply out of touch with what wrestling audiences were crying out for at that time.
There's a difference between being an Irreverent character and being an irreverent person. HBK didn't care about the business. He just wanted to show himself off and get wanked off for it. Contrast to the Rock. Very irreverent character. Consummate professional doing business. It's not the character at fault it's the person.
That the same Rock who casually buried anybody he feuded with on the mic? Didn't always have to, did it to keep getting himself over - and with huge entertainment value, no doubt. Whenever the likes of Cornette and Bret Hart comment on '96-'97 Shawn, it just seems as though they didn't like him having the kind of popularity and backstage stroke they and their friends once enjoyed. Same thing with the Horsemen towards the nWo at that time.
Cornette has heat with HBK after this because of the curtain call and basically it fucking up the way fans look at wrestling from then on, he's always always said that and Nash is all got the money only doesn't give a shit about the business. Think he said Hall if at the time didn't have his demons would have been a great booker
This is why I don't like Jim cornette because he knew that the curtain was going to come off when it came to professional wrestling we all knew that the damn thing was staged so what is there to hide?
"Corny stood his ground" why am I not surprised?
Why is it no one saying that sometimes James cornett's ego can get the best of him and at some of these backstage issues is his fault too.

Is that the original ECW Arena sign??
Yeah it's the original. Conrad has a huge collection of wrestling stuff. If you look in the back he's got a bunch of gear like boots, he has one of vaders masks, a bunch of belts, a big collection of Ric Flair's robes etc. He said he didn't even get the robes from Ric Flair being his father in law. There's a story behind them getting on the market being his ex wives selling them, getting left behind in the locker room, lost in the airport. He has a video clip from 83 weeks where he talks about his collection you should check out.
The video where he talks about his collection is called 'Conrad Thompson on WHY he sold the pink Ric Flair robe'.
Crazy thing is that there were ZERO wrestlers whom Shawn could legitimately beat in an actual fight. His influence and much larger pals were the only thing he had. I thought he was entertaining and a great worker and totally respect him for his life changes, but at the time he was a back-stabbing jerk.
Even his pals didn't look like they could beat someone maybe razor could lol Imagine nash breaking his quad in street fight

You know every hates on Shawn...HBK did not do a single thing that every other top tier did not do. Hogan, Hart, Flair, HHH just to name a few. They all helped there friend or in the case of Bret Family...and they held other people down and buried people to keep there top spot. I think Sting and Undertaker and Mick Foley were the only two to never do that.
Undertaker did do it. Austin, also.
@@Y2JLionHeart Nope never heard anyone say those two did anything. If they did something to someone it was not jealousy or the desire to hold someone down. What I meant was HBK Heart Flair and Hogan were all famous for holding talent down
@@Paradox-vk9fe I should clarify, Undertaker more tried to help his friends here or there. Austin would avoid working with others who would get a good rub from working with him if he thought it was a step backwards or not enough in it for him. I don't think they actively went out of their way to s*** on other talent. I agree with your overall point. People act like Shawn and the Kliq invented the game.
Has Cornette ever been asked about HBK and Vince’s questionable relationship? The way Vince would fawn like a school girl when he’d interview Shawn 96 and 97 was down right embarrassing and cringe worthy
He has. Can't remember his exact explanation for it, I just remember it was as unconvincing as every other we've received up to now... aside from the most logical, which is that Vince and Shawn were gay lovers.

Cornette vs Russo vs Bubba the Love Sponge Triple Threat Deathmatch

Conrad and JR sounds so familiar it’s crazy
I'm guessing Conrad was a big Shawn Michael's fan when he was a kid because that's all he talks about like every video is about hbk

Jim Cornette on Shawn Michaels finding God: “it’s amazing how many people have religious epiphanies the moment they’ve alienated the last of their friends”
I mean yeah that’s generally how it works with every successful story lmao
They didn’t have ‘heat’ in that respect. Cornette just called Michaels bluff. Cornette didn’t like Michaels and that was that. Michaels would argue with Cornette about the Vader situation. Vader overheard and Michaels had to explain. Of course, Michaels went to Vince and cried😂. Cornette snapped and vowed vengeance.

Jim Cornette is the man I don't need to hear Jim Ross speak on his beef when Jim has his own podcast where CORNETTE address it himself 🤷
I've never heard of him backstabbing people or screwing with their careers like Shawn did. Vince let Shawn get away with way too much shit. Yes he was a great performer but at some point he needed a kick up the ass
Let cm punk and jr be bookers and cornett as a writer and booker and when he writes he takes suggestions and ideas and constructive criticism from Ross, Lawler and punk. Watch this company take off like a rocket.
No. In the next coming years I think Jr should retire along with James Cornett. You need to stop relying on these old folks everyday and time sound for a new generation to take over Bookers & writing of pro wrestling.

I like Shawn Micheals but no one can out yell Jim Cornette in my opinion. You have to rr though Shawn Micheals was a prick back then. He said so himself. My favorite is Jim Cornette on Vince Russo or Jim Cornette on Ed Ferrara. Or Jim Cornette vs Dairy Queen. One of the funniest on RUclips.
Shawn Michaels was the leader of the business in 1996 hands down, no disrespect to Corny, love him too!
