Wow, I was at the Cow Palace show in SF he mentioned in 1996. I was 9 years old, I was with my best friend at the time, his mom drove us. My parents were going through a messy divorce at the time so money was scarce, but my friend's mom was almost a second mom to me during that time, buying us the zebra HBK hats, Bret Hart glasses and an Undertaker t-shirt. I still have the HBK hat. She passed away about 4-5 years ago. Sad but I will always remember those times when she took us to Cow Palace, paid for my tickets, bought us stuff, rented wrestling tapes every weekend, etc. Amazing person.

Pre 96 Michaels is weirdly soft on offense, low on variety and his hokey selling hasn't graduated past being a poor imitation of Curt Hennig, while post injury Michaels, which everybody seems to praise as his best run, has Michaels trying to create these self conscious epic performances, but his wrestling is kinda bad, his loss of physical mass makes it even less believable, and he has these weird quirks that annoy me like the worst Flair chops I've ever seen, and constantly missing moonsaults that his opponents still sell like they've been hit
If the Shawn Michaels of 1996 and 1997 was what I saw from Shawn for most of his career, I could understand the praise, as it is, I don't get it...the guys I mentioned were very consistent for most of their careers, if not their whole career
And Foley is underrated, great seller, great bumper, great characters, great talker, really good striker, solid offense...and he actually had some decent wrestling skills, probably less honed than other greats, but for a guy who's gimmick was that he was a masochistic hardcore legend or "garbage wrestler" as Flair put it, when Foley showed off some of his mat skills, he did a good job

There's a story behind them getting on the market being his ex wives selling them, getting left behind in the locker room, lost in the airport. But Shawn was having 5 star matches before Eddie even became mainstream and Eddie is easily on my top 3 all time. Kurt is a timeless talent, but what that gotta do with HBK. What HBK delivered in the 90s was the perfect set up for the attitude era for Austin/Rock. HBK delivered on more Wrestlemanias. not sure if you forgot. Bret is great, but his WCW run was depressing. TBH WWF made Bret a hit and once he left he didn't draw as much as his peak, during a time people considered WWF at it's lowest. Also, HBK delivered tons of storylines and this is sports entertainment. Bret wasn't good in terms of acting or the mic skills. In the ring, he was a god. HBK is respected for legit reasons.
