Smoking is a very bad habit. Highly addictive to some people, like Rollen. Rollen understands it's unhealthy.
Billy Thorpe was one of the most highly respected session musicians in America - many styles of playing from blues, rock, metal, to country and folk in addition to his string of hits in Australia as a solo artist and as front man for The Aztecs - a legend in the music industry. He was hard rock in 1971, well before Led Zep, Deep Purple and Aussie rock legends AC/DC - respect well deserved.
A real soundtrack to my life back then.
“Material gain caused me confusion”
Remember it’s the early 70’s and materialism was gaining traction and so was the hippie movement.
That line really influenced me as i was growing up, as I saw things have more value than people.
This is the song that established Billy Thorpe as a bona fide guitar-thrashing rock star. RIP Billy.
Love Billy Thorpe, what a great voice what a legend. RIP Billy.💔
Billy Thorpe, my first rock n roll hero
Mama by Billy Thorpe
The song was originally recorded by Billy with the Aztecs. At the time of this concert, in front of thousands at the MCG in Melbourne, Billy had just returned from the US and would not have included the Aztecs.
As t you can hear, Billy Thorpe was a hard and loud rocker but he also has a softer side to his singing with songs such as, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," I Told The Brook" and "Twilight Time". It was in these songs that I marvelled at his clear and emotive singing ability.
Exactly. We are all getting on and my brother is quite a bit older than me. I'm under strict instructions that when he passes Somewhere over the Rainbow must be played by Billy and it must be the Sunbury version. Can't listen to that song anymore. Just howl.
@@carolinelane9599 Yes, my husband and I are musing through which songs will be played at our funerals when our time comes. The baby boomers of the music generation will take it to the grave. Musically, no other generation has had it so good. That's why I love the reactions of the younger generations on You Tube to the music of our time. They realise what they missed out on!
mushroom is a record label,in melbourne,australia...their biggest act was skyhooks (who were huge in oz)
what about Jimmy Barnes, Kylie Mingue, Oliva Newton-John all abit bigger than Skyhooks as much as I loved them, may Shirl R.I P.
Skyhooks , Sherbet, TMG was the first concert I ever went to as a 12 year old. Had to sit up the back. Dad was frightened I would get squashed lol
I agree with you, all I ever heard of was Children of the Sun. This was a great vibe. I enjoyed. 👍🚌💨💨💨
💨😶🌫️💨
💨💨💨
Sorry about the dense fog at the back of the 🚌 but that was 🔥🔥🎸🔥🔥👍😁
I'm right there with you!
Me too👻💨💨
bit late to the party! :P
Mushroom .... WAS a record label here in aus... ...until Warner Bros. bought it....
they had everyone from The Skyhooks to the Split Enz..The Angels to Barnesy, to Minogue sisters to huge names like ABBA, Nelly Furtado, Garbage, Muse and even Madonna (with Warner backing)
Did not matter where he was performing, pub, stadium outside concert, the moment he played MOST PEOPLE, the world stopped.
and that's why most people think he's crazy - not into materialism - more people these days think about experience rather than possessions, but sadly the 'keeping up with the Joneses' is almost as bad for some now as it was in the 50's and 60's. Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs is great Aussie band. This was probably their biggest hit but try "Almost Summer" just Billy, as well : ruclips.net/video/659BB5W838I/видео.html
How on earth did I miss this? I’m weeks late. My teenage years theme song 👏👏
Really good song❤️🔥😉👍
I always kinda wondered the possession thing too. And personal I feel most independent artist tend to mean excessive amounts. The stepping on others to reach it concept. Not the hard work to obtain something and take care of it. More of the, that looks pretty, and it breaks before you get it out of the package. Then it all winds up in the trash. Where as many mainstream tend to lean towards the you will own nothing and be happy narrative in my opinion, AOAFEPO. But that's usually the feeling I take from it. But that could be a biased statement too😏👍
Billy has been dead since 2007. The loudest singer I have ever heard. We Aussies loved and adored him and his music most of all his humour
Like Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham, the record execs couldn't understand artists just not being inrerested in big cars, mansions and designer clother, for compromising their music, just to fit into a small american niche.
Except that Billy bought himself an Aston Martin DB5.
I enjoyed your reaction..you should check out " Spectrum , I'll Be Gone (1971) Classic Aussie tune
Rollen mushroom is the label they record under.
Thats not a fun answer - but I thank you. I just playing. I do want to know the truth even if it's a buzz kill!
@@RollenGreenRants sorry about that Rollen, must admit I was LMAO with your take on what it was about. Renee Geyer (gayer) has a number of terrific songs and has been on the scene for 40 odd yrs. On the mushrooms I've only tried them twice, one trip brilliant the other hell. Lol
@@petercaldwell8674 I was unknowingly slipped a little 'shroom in the early 80's - only realised I was tripping when I explained to my husband that the reason I [designated non-drinking driver] was stopped in the middle of the road was because the stop sign had walked out and was standing in front of the car..............at least my trip was a "Looney Tunes" one 😆
@@bigs1546 My first trip was absolutely everything was hilarious and stomach hurt for days later from laughing, the second was paranoia with a fireworks display that went on for hrs in my head including moss growing up my legs and arms. I decided I'd leave the stuff alone after that not knowing what was coming next time.🤯
First 45 I ever bought.
It sounds like material gain causes you confusion too
G’day mate, you really need to do Jimmy Barnes, driving wheels, from the same concert, there’s video 😅
👍😁🎸👏🔥‼️👋👋🤘🕊
