VEGAN CACTUS LEATHER FROM MEXICO: NEW FAVORITE FOR LUXURY
With the purpose of creating an alternative to animal leather, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, both hailing from Mexico, developed vegan leather made with nopal (a cactus), which they successfully showcased last October 2019 in Milan, Italy.
After two years of research and work, the creators could finally finish marketable cactus leather in July 2019. Its trade name is Desserto, and it has competitive features compared to animal or synthetic leather, like elasticity and being customizable and breathable.
Adrian and Marte had the idea after working in the furniture automotive and fashion industries where they identified that the problem of environmental pollution was serious. As a result, they were genuinely interested in reducing environmental impact, so they decided to leave their jobs and start Adriano Di Marti, a company to focus on developing Desserto, which nowadays is known as cactus or nopal vegan leather.

Love the idea, but it only lasts 10 years? A good leather jacket or shoes will last a life time, even car seats will last a life time with good care. Please explain more about the durability of this vegan leather, very interested in the product but need to know more.

So i`m a bit sceptical
I ask myself:
How can I earn money without doing anything than pressing keys?
Who works for me and how to generate my own profit?
And does this one earn enough money for himself to live in dignity?
So please explain here, step by step, in terms that are understandable to everyone:
- how much money do I have to invest to earn
- how many participants are necessary for everyone of them to make money,
- who of the participants in the pyramid earns money
- who of the participants in the pyamids does`nt
- how probable is the risk of a (total) loss of my money
Please also state here how many participants are currently participating and how many have already dropped out without earning money or even making a loss and in what amount.
What is actually the product of WESA if the system is not only based on profit expectations?

Learned about this a couple years ago and I'm surprised this hasn't spread further. Southern Texas and Arizona here in the USA has plenty of cactus, too, so there's easily room to have more cactus farms out here specifically for sourcing cactus leather.

I love this idea but I hope you develop a way to make the goods more long-lasting because I don't want my leather products to biodegrade in 10 years!
Very good! : Suggestion I shared on another comment: Use hemp fiber to create long lasting fabric. Combine cactus with hemp, or maybe also bamboo, or other plant fiber. So many plants grow like weeds and could be utilized without harming the planet.
We actually combine our formulations with recycled and biodegradable fabrics/fibers.
I have to say as a cacti lover and collector this is damn good!

Real leather: not biodegradable.
Of course, cause real leather products are meant to last for ever, you're not supposed to throw it out, you can sell it as 2nd, heir it to your descendants, and so on...
Of course it has its impact, but PVC leather has a bigger impact, especially since the product has very reduced life and it turns into useless garbage (something natural leather products don't).
Also, how much energy does it take to produce cactus leather? How much water is wasted?(in the production) Is the machinery sustainable?
I'd like a more detailed video on the production process.

Es sabido que en Morelos y varios lugares de México, el monocultivo de nopales (la especie de cactus de la que hablan) causa muchos problemas ambientales, desde la contaminación de mantos freáticos hasta el desplazamiento de la diversidad vegetal y animal en amplias zonas de cultivo. Es una gran idea, pero hay un dicho en México que debe ser tomado en cuenta: puede salir más caro el caldo que las albóndigas.

Problem is lifespan. I like a lot of people think real.leather is costly. I mean I still have my leather jacket from 20years ago and plan to have it till my elder years. Same with my cars leather. Well at least hope it can last 20. Point is, wed like to keep our items for a long period of time.

Par contre je ne suis pas d'accord sur le fait de diaboliser le cuir animal, à la base les bovins sont élevés pour leur viande, la peau est considéré comme un déchet, au même titre que les os par exemple, elle est achetée au poids et ensuite revalorisée par les tanneries.
Après c'est vrai que dans de nombreux pays les tanneries sont très polluantes et toxiques (pour la nature mais aussi pour les personnes qui y travaillent ou qui vivent à côté) mais dans d'autres pays (comme la France) les règles d'hygiène sont de plus en plus strictes, c'est peut être pas parfait mais ne mettons pas toutes les tanneries dans le même panier.

@Tony Humbert I think it's practical, you can have a thick cover, it's still a development in progress. Perhaps there could be a cross mixture, cactus and hemp fabric.

@Tony Humbert Okay, but that doesn't make it alright to use animal products. This cactus material can still be used for fashion accessories. Cars can have another product for upholstery.
We develop different qualities for different applications. Desserto actually lasts more than 10 years if well taken care of, specially our automotive grade fabrics. Our materials are highly organic, so as your skin requires care, the general principle is not to use solvents and to clean with a humid soft cloth. Biodegradability occur under anaerobic land-filling conditions, actually makes it easier for bacteria to reach and digest the discarded material, thus accelerating the bio-degradation process.
And don't forget the "disclaimer", "...up to ten years". So I guess sometimes not even ten years. I guess shoes would wear out quicker...I've got leather boots that are ay over ten years old.
