I love how they did Heimdall kind of like they did baldur. They took their common trope ( in Heimdalls case it's being able to see everything) and they showed us how that could impact someone negatively. Baldur for example not being able to feel anything as a result of bring invulnerable
Heimdall saying that Atreus doesn't know himself what he wants is very interesting because most depictions of Loki even in the original mythology do show him as a schemer but also a servant to his own whims. One day he may help you the other he bite you as a snake
If I remember correctly, Eric Williams say that anything that comes out of Heimdall's mouth is the truth, basically exposing people on what they're thinking. The fact that Heimdall said Atreus doesn't know what he's even doing, that must mean what Atreus said about not being a spy was the truth. Then again, Atreus was young so of course he'd be indecisive at who he's gonna side with. In the end, his father is the only one he can rely on.
this was one of the best lines in the game imo. really gives an insight into Heimdall’s psyche and why he’s such an asshole. because of his powers he has such deep distrust and loathing in people but at the same time only focuses on the worst aspects of other people, blind to his own hypocrisy. even reveals atreus inner workings too with how his motive has shifted and wavered after being treated with such hospitality from Odin. kind of a shame its tucked away in a throwaway encounter in the dining hall where 90% of people can easily miss. this line couldve been used in an pivotal epic cutscene, hell if they made the norse saga into a trilogy, and heimdall wouldve been the 2nd games main villain, this line couldve been the foundation for his character arc.
Yes i have been saying this since Rangnark came out If they made heimdall the main villain of this game and made a 3rd game the characters could have been much better
Heimdall is not really a bad person, he actually had the best ability god ever given to him. It was why Odin put him as an Asgard’s Gatekeeper. He’s simply just doing his job. His talent is just way too raw for him due to his teen age. He just hasn't been able to control his abilities and contain himself against people’s intention (and it’s proven). Hence it made him look like a jerk.
yeah....mind reading would turn pretty much anyone into a sociopath...having to watch someone smile and talk with you in gentle words, while reading the worst insults ever in his mind...
That's honestly a very nuanced perspective of Heimdall I never realized. Always having to listen to people's thoughts even if you don't want to can easily make a person very jaded and cynical. I honestly feel for him.
When he says chooses to dissect people for their intentions, it shows he could’ve had a redemption arc if he realized Odin took away his ability to read the All-fathers intentions but everyone else’s and doesn’t want to die the type of warrior Odin wants
Now I wonder if Odin really sees the best in people or he tricked Heimdall somehow. It would be interesting to see if Odin really did see the best in people, but somehow he effed up really badly that things turn the way it did. Just a very tragic tale.
Nah man. Anyone can tel odin was evil, manipulative, and abusive. Im def sure he had something maybe a spell or some kind of manipulation tactic on heimdall.
Odin seeing the best in people was a figure of speech. It wasnt litteral. Not that hard to understand.. 🥱🥱 Odin truely believed his actions were good and justified, so Heimdall had no reasons not to trust him or sense anything negative. It's pretty obvious that Heimdall knew about Odin mind too.
It would be cool if they gave Heimdall unique dialogue for what the player is doing, similar to when everyone reacts to Kratos loot hunting, but like if the player is pacing back and forth he might say something about you being impatient
To be honest when you think about when you can see everything in someone and they continue to go down that path i could see anyone turn into a heimdall when your surrounded by someone so optimistic and your forced to see 100% of anyone or thing
It's interesting to see how Heimdall seeing Atreus' inner conflicting loyalty is the one time where he ever-so-briefly stops being hostile. Then he remembers who he is talking to and immediately returns to being a vicious douchebag.
I can't help but wonder about how much Baldur and Heimdall got on each other's nerves. I just KNOW that Baldur always looked for ways to piss Heimdall off.

... ... 'No body ever says what they really mean" ... I kind of see where he is coming from, his antagonistic nature also makes sense
Someone take the mug away from Heimdall. He's had enough for tonight.
Heimdall has that shadow rectangle look from a distance.
Heimdall is just the guy that mocks you from the other cell in the beginning of Oblivion.
this was one of the best lines in the game imo. really gives an insight into Heimdall’s psyche and why he’s such an asshole. because of his powers he has such deep distrust and loathing in people but at the same time only focuses on the worst aspects of other people, blind to his own hypocrisy. even reveals atreus inner workings too with how his motive has shifted and wavered after being treated with such hospitality from Odin. kind of a shame its tucked away in a throwaway encounter in the dining hall where 90% of people can easily miss. this line couldve been used in an pivotal epic cutscene, hell if they made the norse saga into a trilogy, and heimdall wouldve been the 2nd games main villain, this line couldve been the foundation for his character arc.
Yes i have been saying this since Rangnark came out
If they made heimdall the main villain of this game and made a 3rd game the characters could have been much better
@@AskwhoQ Yeah i agree
Oh, i never saw this line before. Now i like him more.
Atreus’s eyes are so blue it’s crazy. I wonder if it’s because he’s half Frost Giant or if he gets his eyes from Zeus his grandfather
Frost Giant? Wasn't Faye just a regular Jotun? Or are you talking about Loki in Marvel?
@@Urd-Vidan he’s definitely talking about Marvel Loki
Faye has vibrant blue eyes if I’m remembering clearly.
@@Urd-Vidan 🗿

Poor Heimdall... All his life only see the worst in people...
I cant be the only one that loves heimdalls character
I wish this was when Heimdall began warming up to Atreus and was actually nice from time to time to give his death more impact

I really wish Heimdall could have been spared he was a stupid prideful kid.
I'm pretty sure Odin made him the bully that we saw in game.
Heimdall is my favorite character of this game.
He's preaching the truth when he says people do t say what they mean.
yeah....mind reading would turn pretty much anyone into a sociopath...having to watch someone smile and talk with you in gentle words, while reading the worst insults ever in his mind...
I can’t take it serious of how Heimdall’s Face Is Stiff 😭
That's honestly a very nuanced perspective of Heimdall I never realized. Always having to listen to people's thoughts even if you don't want to can easily make a person very jaded and cynical. I honestly feel for him.
Heimdall always messes up my mind when you interact with him
When he says chooses to dissect people for their intentions, it shows he could’ve had a redemption arc if he realized Odin took away his ability to read the All-fathers intentions but everyone else’s and doesn’t want to die the type of warrior Odin wants
Dude the lip syncing in this game is actually really well done.
Now I wonder if Odin really sees the best in people or he tricked Heimdall somehow.
It would be interesting to see if Odin really did see the best in people, but somehow he effed up really badly that things turn the way it did. Just a very tragic tale.
Heimdall was reading Atreus’ mind … so after Atreus met Odin, he felt Odin was nice and was considering assisting him
Nah man. Anyone can tel odin was evil, manipulative, and abusive. Im def sure he had something maybe a spell or some kind of manipulation tactic on heimdall.
Odin seeing the best in people was a figure of speech. It wasnt litteral. Not that hard to understand.. 🥱🥱
Odin truely believed his actions were good and justified, so Heimdall had no reasons not to trust him or sense anything negative.
It's pretty obvious that Heimdall knew about Odin mind too.
People say they would love to read people’s minds. This guy makes me glad that I can’t.
Heimdall is one of my fav characters from the franchise. I wish we could have seen more from him
It would be cool if they gave Heimdall unique dialogue for what the player is doing, similar to when everyone reacts to Kratos loot hunting, but like if the player is pacing back and forth he might say something about you being impatient
His eyes are so gawddamn cool
This applies to people in real life.
He's spitting facts.
For a guy who has a gift of foresight, he sure is blinded by jealousy 😂
Hemidall had a point in this conversation actually
Fun fact: The actor for Heimdall in GOW, also voiced Lucas from Mincreaft: Story Mode.
Heimdall would be that guy to have a 500+ reply argument in a youtube comment section
Ngl, that's the most accurate description for Heimdall I've ever seen😂😂
Heimdall is basically Loki if he didn’t have Kratos in his life.
"If even I don't know what I'm doing then you sure as hell don't" ~Loki employing his standard tactics
I can't help but wonder about how much Baldur and Heimdall got on each other's nerves. I just KNOW that Baldur always looked for ways to piss Heimdall off.
It’s funny cause I believe if some random person could read minds and not get touched like heimdallr they’d act the same way
Being able to read everyone like a book must actually suck. I can imagine it will eventually make you feel incredibly lonely.
I found this interpretation of Heimdall, and exchanges like this, interesting... I'm autistic, I'm not exactly great at reading people... But I can always find a sociopath in a room almost immediately. And they seem to be able to find people like me, too. It's like the lamest version of The Highlander, where we just know. 😂
Heimdal is odins son and yet Odin never calls him that
I’m sure Heimdall’s 9 mothers called him their son, though, so that’s perhaps something.
I can’t even blame him
Damn heimdall must get sick of reading people thoughts
Heimdall really hit Atreus with he "LTG" (low tier god)
I haven’t played the game, but I gather that Heimdall has the gift of true perception; He sees the true nature of people. I guess this is significant for the moment when he looked up at Kratos and uttered “monster” as he died.
In my play through I never saw this! Thanks for sharing
The whole time I'm hoping maybe he'll take stick outta his ass and at least try being friendly with us but then I won't lie when kratos was bouncing his face into the ground like a basketball ball I was laughing yelling haw see that coming good keep em coming
Yeah he f’ed Heimdall up basically Heamdall was asking for it glad Kratos gave him the Hermes treatment.
@@altair227 as soon as I heard " oh is this about that runt now I'm gutting him" I thought yup dead no mercy now lol
@@baldmadmac yeah i laughed at the bouncing like a basketball comment Kratos make us relived when he did that and then choked him to death.
@@altair227 yup I was laughing loudly screaming to myself " c'mon you can see everything why not stopping your face from becoming paste c'mon future man " lol
Why the hell would he be nice with Atreus when he knows Atreus wants to f over Odin and Asgard? This ain’t disney😂
His powers seems to be a burden, everyone lies but for different reasons.
I can’t be the only one who loves Heimdall
If Heimdall was real he would be me I can read literally anyones true motives even if they’re a quiet person
It baffles me how he can see peopels true intent, yet supports Odin whole heartedly.
And this was Heimdall almost being nice and somewhat vulnerable with Atreus it’s a very loose almost he’s still the worst though 😂😂
It’s crazy how engaging and thought out this game was. I beat it, understood the majority of it, but they put so much thought into it that you still have to analyze it afterwards.
It’s hilarious how undermined Atreus is in the game when he’s literally like 13, slaying beasts and going on glorious adventures
Meanwhile Heimdall on mead : * inaudible Nomsense *
