The 60's and 70's had different logistic challenges, movements were offered on contracts that didn't require time and delivery because the manufacturers were challenged to find reliable materials suppliers that would accept time and delivery requirements. The gems mined in Africa, Asia and South America were routinely interrupted by Government upheaval and political revolutions that were aimed at the rich mine owners, particularly in South America. The result was different movements may not be consistently available. Enter the Quartz, boom, now your sales are slashed and your money is redirected to quartz or cheaper stuff. Add all of this up and the Watch Industry went through a purge and the models were all over the place.

I think I would hire a consultant before I purchased a Rolex from the secondary market.... I definitely would consult the forums

Correct me if I am wrong but your so-called two-tone 1500 Rolex appears to have the reflection resolution of a synthetic sapphire crystal that was first featured on the the 15223 released in or about 1988 with the quick-date 3035 ("5") for the date appliance. The Rolex reference numbering system indicates the variant of the style line such as the 14000 and 15000 series reserved for the 34mm casing while the 16000 series is for your 36mm Datejust etc. watches. In your 15223 the first two refers to the engine-turned carvings with the 23 carving type in yellow gold. If your steel and gold Rolex is immediately pre 3035, say 1975 then it would be a 1501 featuring the iconic 1570 movement. For myself, I find the 34mm Rolex to be the perfect size watch ever to wear since I am wearing the very first Rolex purchased being a 15210/3035 made in 1981 - early '82 which I just had serviced by Rolex 650 NY, and outfitted it with a new Jubilee bracelet - the watch keeps just about 0.6 second per day slow for a forty-one year old Oyster chronometer that saw two North Atlantic crossings by sail probably before you were born.

Dark color may not be the most optimal when it comes to small dials. The 2 tone may look better whith white or pearly color

T3 you should get ahold of a Tudor 9050. I have had two of them, same case as your OPD's. 34mm, stainless case and gold plated variants, super cool alternatives and much cheaper to service.

The Rolex Date only comes in a 34mm I believe, while the Datejust comes in other sizes.

Great video, I have a question though.. how do you know the price for the second hand Rolex you want to buy is correct, I mean you are not overpaying it. I am interested in one in particular and that’s my problem, the price seems very reasonable to me but I don’t know if the market price is actually correct just in case I would want to sell it one day

hey my brother. the other day a work friend suggested that the rolex air king is the closest to the a royal oak due to the genta design. He said that genta was absolut bonkers for engine turned bezels. The Geneve looks very similar to the rolex engine turned bezel. Would you say she is right? Cheers.
