Actually wearing alpinist today to a conference , then to party with the guys and finally to the gym. I agree this thing is so versatile . Beautiful and rugged at the same time.
Not sure if you can even call it a “collection” with only one watch but hey! And I LOVE my Alpinist. Wear it hiking, traveling, and even with a suit and tie at work. And the fact that is has the same water resistance as my Seiko Prospex diver feels like the watch’s sweet little secret. Props to the Rolex OP too! Thanks for the video!
I've already done that. I got my collection up to six over this past four years, but it's too many, so I sold one, gave one to my brother, gave one each to my two kids, and traded two for the only watch I now have - a black dial, steel Daytona. I found the Daytona speaks to everything, to me, that is a watch. I've always been a one watch guy, found a collection didn't do it for me.
if i was stranded on a desert island i'd take a big invicta with me so that i can throw it up at coconuts or at animals while hunting to help me survive.
Also is gonna be handy as an umbrella when it's raining or the sun is shining also is gonna be good for defense using it as a shield... Captain America style...fucking Invictas 😂😂😂
If I were to be stranded on a desert island, I would have to go with my solar atomic Casio GW5610 G-SHOCK. My autos could possibly run down. A normal quartz watch would die in a few years. Plus this is my reference watch to set my autos to. It also helps that this is one tough watch too!
master cylinder Keeping track of time would help with not losing your mind. So a watch that can go on forever and have a calendar function would be best. However if you're on a desert island, you're gonna die pretty soon anyway even if your watch is edible. If your island has resources though, I would choose something solar powered that has navigation functions, compass and maybe GPS. That could be helpful. Or maybe a Breitling Emergency? If your island isn't exactly at the center of nowhere, that could prove helpful.
Hey Jory...you're right for the Alpinist...can't take it off my wrist...but I have to admit it does not fit with all outfits. I don't wear it with Blue suit or sport jackets (but i give some love to my seamster 300 when wearing blue) !!! But i'm freaking in love with this alpinist
I've owned a Rolex Oysterdate gold shelled case with steel back since 2001. The guarantee states it was purchased in the Royal Naval Barracks Singapore in 1966 and the serial number dates it to 1957. It's accuracy for a manual watch is such that it gains 2 secs a day in the drawer and loses the same on the wrist. Therefore I only need to adjust the hands when the clocks go back and forth. There's no patina on the dial and I've fitted a dark brown teju lizard strap. Another Rolex wearer described it as a work of art. Happy collecting.
Totally agree. I'm wearing mine right now as a matter of fact. Beautiful, tough and just the right size. There's nothing about this watch I don't like.
My answer is similar. I've been saying for two years now that the PERFECT one watch collection is the new 39mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual (in either gray or blue). It can be formal. It can be casual. The movement is a tank. At 39mm, it's (IMO) the PERFECT size. It's arguably the best looking/coolest modern Rolex, and somehow it's also their least expensive. Always my suggestion for people trying to break into watches.
Life Saver Pool Fence Systems, Inc. I agree with you. My one watch collection would be my SS/Gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual. It is a bombproof watch. The new Oyster Perpetual with the different dial colors provides something for nearly everyone. I prefer no date. I think the Cyclops lens obscures the look of the watch. Have a great day!
T3 you should dive into a nato strap or 2. I bought an Alpha Blu Shark vintage Bond for my turtle and it's changed my world. I cannot believe such an affordable light material changed the look and feel into such a masculine and luxurious feel.
Love the channel, Jory. Thank for the great content and entertaining videos. My father just passed down a 1500 to me that my grandfather gave him 30 years ago. Got it cleaned up and I adore the watch. Still exploring it fully, but love the video about it! Thanks
A vintage Sub would be perfect. It's a sports watch so that box is checked. It still has the thin lugs and it looks phenomenal in a suit with maybe a distressed strap. That's another box checked. It's not flashy so you can wear it everyday.
Green w/Gold Trim Used on the most expensive Cars in the world for over 40 yrs. SEIKO my choice of endless classic looks. My other tough duty daily w/bullet proof band, for the last 18 yrs, the TAG HEUER Professional 200 Meter Chronograph. Impossible to scratch crystal even against concrete during moving mission. I heard it scrap, and was ready to cry, then looked, not a mark.
I find an extra timezone handy, not because i travel a lot, but i watch livestreams across the world and it's sometimes very confusing if they only use their local timezone, especially around the time they switch from DST, in Europe we change a few week early
Alpinist is a great watch, love mine and it is a perfect size. The Rolex explorer is basically the watch the alpinist is based on. So that would be a good choice if only it didn't cost $6K. For me I'll just keep my Seiko, that is awesome, at a fraction of the cost.
I want to like the Alpinist because it's one of the coolest seikos but I can't bring myself to love the green and gold with radial sunburst. Reminds me of the surface of a smelly swamp in the sunlight with flies buzzing around. Just looking at it makes me want to stand up and go wash my hands. Release some more colours to the Alpinist range for the rest of us!
I have to agree with the 1500. I have one and will never get rid of it. You can also pick these up for less than 2K if you know where to look. Sarb033 over alpinist any day tho. (that's just IMO)
Jory how about a watch cleaning video? I was looking and really can’t find anything on it, I know it sounds self explanatory seems like a basic maintenance video would be helpful.
What do you think about watch companies like Timex or Casio? They may not be automatic, but they're dirt cheap and last forever. Valuable to have just from a utilitarian standpoint?
If i had to sell all my watches the 1500 also would be the one keeper. I inherited this from my grandpa, who barely wore it. I haven't been wearing it a single time but this was the watch that got me interested in watches when I was a very young boy. I could have looked for hours on the sweeping seconds hand. Now that my grandpa has passed away, I own the watch, as no one else in the family is interested in watches at all. I keep it in a safe place away from my collection and once in a while I unpack it and just look at it. I don't even wind it sometimes. There are also two vintage citizen watches of my grandpa, he wore while at work. Those two I sometimes wear. And I wear them with pride even thou nobody ever notices them. To me they all mean a lot and I couldn't get rid of any of them. So my one piece collection must exist of those three watches.
When you have lots of watches in rotation and you love love them all, how do you pick one? I would probably go for my Tudor Black Bay and hope the situation never arises.
I would have thought if you had only one watch on a desert you would want to bring a watch similiar to the Hamilton Khaki ETO. So many functions, Swiss made and no over priced.
I have had a big collection for many years, and now I'm finding myself considering consolidation (I blame the Sinn 556i I just picked up). It is a hard decision for sure.
Yoo I just found your channel out of the blue and really like the context as a watch lover. I'm a student currently, so I am one of your viewer that can't afford luxurious watch at the moment. I am a big fan of watch automatic movement, I think it's very elegant and relaxing. I'm kind of in a dilemma on whether should I purchase the "Filipo Loreti" which sell itself having the perks of luxurious watch yet cost much less. Should I just save up for a SevenFriday maybe. Sorry for such a long comment, good luck to your channel!
Hey Jory, can you make a video about how you feel about modified watches? I know a lot of people who like to mod seiko 5's and divers because dials and hands are so abundant and interchangeable. Just wanted to know how you feel about it. Would you keep it original, personalize it, or do you just feel indifferent about the whole thing?
Hey dude, awesome video! I'm thinking about my Christmuka present for myself and I was already planning to buy the Alpinist, I will wait for a sale or something and will see if it as gorgeous in person as it is on videos...
Thanks you. Seeing your video is what makes me finally decided to buy the alpinist. Even tough is it very expensive here in indonesia. Almost 650 usd here it almost 1 month salary :D
T3, really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work. Question: What is your opinion on Nautica watches? I think they're made by Timex. I bought a Portofino for $70 on Amazon & it's got 100m water resistance and the bezel action is second to none! I can't believe how good the quality is.
Ginger or Mary Ann perhaps, but I would not need a watch on a desert island ! ( I know why Thurston Howell wore a watch, but why did Gilligan wear a watch ?)
Great video as always. Do you own any pocket watch? Love to see it-them if you do. Also, do you use auto watch winders? Love to hear your thought on those too.
I am almost jealous of people who can live with one watch. The emotional attachment could be too great though. If you lose it or it dies someday, you'll go through the heartbreak like how people do when their pets die.
No disrespect, but if I am stranded on a desert Island, I want my Casio Rangeman (Solar, atomic, perpetual). I am not going to worry about how dressy my watch is for dinner! LOL I'd like a GPS Casio if they made one.
I have ordered the Alpinist and it is on the way....I have a question may be one of you could help me...I want to put that watch on a steel bracelet..My question is if I buy a bracelet of the same size as the starp on that watch would it fit it perfectly? Or are there more things I need to consider?
HI time teller. i am impressed by your videos. i am into watches currently saving up for my next watch. however i dream of a rolex on my wrist someday. how did you manage to own rolex watches ?
Even though the Rolex 1500 is more... I guess prestigious, I'm more partial to the Alpinist. I ain't afraid to say it, though everybody is entitled to their opinion, when I saw Archieluxury's review about this watch, I starting asking myself, "what the hell is wrong with this guy?". if only they made an all rubber invicta to use as a raft to help me escape the island
Also is gonna be handy as an umbrella when it's raining or the sun is shining also is gonna be good for defense using it as a shield... Captain America style...fucking Invictas 😂😂😂
Can use large flat crystal to signal planes.
If really big......might float use as raft...

Waktosha 73 I have one of those too, I love it.
The WatchBox That's a great watch!
Of what concern is time if you're on a desert island? You have nothing but, time!
master cylinder
Keeping track of time would help with not losing your mind. So a watch that can go on forever and have a calendar function would be best. Daniel M fits very well with black suit
Daniel M I found very similar to the Alpinist, the SARG007 and SARG003. Appear to be discontinued though.
I've owned a Rolex Oysterdate gold shelled case with steel back since 2001. The guarantee states it was purchased in the Royal Naval Barracks Singapore in 1966 and the serial number dates it to 1957. As I keep telling my wife, what kind of saddo only owns one watch? Subscribed because you pronounced versatile correctly.

Personally, i love the green watch face and gold markings of the alpinist.
T3 you should dive into a nato strap or 2. I bought an Alpha Blu Shark vintage Bond for my turtle and it's changed my world. I cannot believe such an affordable light material changed the look and feel into such a masculine and luxurious feel.
I'm dying to own a SEIKO SARBO 17 ALPINIST one day. I love it as much as you do.
Love the channel, Jory. Thank for the great content and entertaining videos.
My father just passed down a 1500 to me that my grandfather gave him 30 years ago. Got it cleaned up and I adore the watch. Still exploring it fully, but love the video about it! Thanks
Very enjoyable video. Congrats on 12k, I am glad to be among them.
Long island watch company has a watch & learn how to use the compass function (regardless of who makes it)
Amazing piece! Simple, clean, and elegant! Thanks for the mention buddy! I really appreciate it.
A vintage Sub would be perfect. It's a sports watch so that box is checked. It still has the thin lugs and it looks phenomenal in a suit with maybe a distressed strap. That's another box checked. It's not flashy so you can wear it everyday.
Nice surprise to have your video waiting for me this morning. Thanks again
State of the collection!! Ha! I'd love to see a rundown of what you have and maybe why you have each piece. Great videos, keep them coming!
Green w/Gold Trim
Used on the most expensive
Cars in the world for over 40 yrs.
SEIKO my choice of endless classic looks.
My other tough duty daily
w/bullet proof band, for the last 18 yrs, the TAG HEUER Professional 200 Meter Chronograph. Impossible to scratch crystal even against concrete during moving mission.
I heard it scrap, and was ready to cry, then looked, not a mark.

Just give me an all steel datejust 41mm and I’ll call it quits. Such a versatile watch. But what do you wear during service is the question, right?
I really need to pick up a SARB017 soon. Thanks for the Video.
Love the green and gold. Colors of my favorite baseball team.
Wow I’m looking for another watch to buy but ended up loving my seiko alpinist. Thanks! Love your video!
Curious to if you managed to stick with one watch. Updates?
Alpinist is a great watch, love mine and it is a perfect size. The Rolex explorer is basically the watch the alpinist is based on. So that would be a good choice if only it didn't cost $6K. For me I'll just keep my Seiko, that is awesome, at a fraction of the cost.
I guess if you are on a desert Island and want to swimming, or out for a formal black tie event, you got the rolex! Sounds good.
I want to like the Alpinist because it's one of the coolest seikos but I can't bring myself to love the green and gold with radial sunburst. Reminds me of the surface of a smelly swamp in the sunlight with flies buzzing around. Just looking at it makes me want to stand up and go wash my hands.

I would love to see a state of your collection. We've got pretty similar tastes and I would love to live vicariously through your watch box!
My problem is, what watch can follow up the Alpinist???
OP date diameter is 34, 36 is for datejust, great vid anw and I couldn't agree more with your pick for OP date, classy and versatile watch 😃👍
+freddy freddy I realized I misspoke once I started editing. Oh well. I corrected myself in the description.
the gold indexes on the alpinist, is it gold-plated, real gold or just colored metal?
I saw this coming. I like the Alpinist . They do make a jdm model of the alpinist in an anthacite dial which is prettier.
Oh, on your desert Island you brought spare straps for the one watch. Good thinking!
I have had a big collection for many years, and now I'm finding myself considering consolidation (I blame the Sinn 556i I just picked up). It is a hard decision for sure.

Hey cool video! What watch did you have on your wrist?
I think by definition a collection is more than one of anything. Awesome picks tho.
After seeing the sarbo17 over and over again it is growing on me... it has been added to the list.
All we want is a better mic!
Great video as always. The Rolex Date is 34mm not 36. It does wear much bigger than 34 though because of the long lugs.
+The Watch Hipster I know. I misspoke. I realized only after I started editing. I corrected myself in the description.
The Time Teller I do that all the time too :) it’s does wear like a 36 at least so it’s def no biggie :) cheers and keep up the phenomenal work.
+The Watch Hipster Thank you, man. Means a lot.
Hey dude, awesome video! I'm thinking about my Christmuka present for myself and I was already planning to buy the Alpinist, I will wait for a sale or something and will see if it as gorgeous in person as it is on videos...
Strapcode makes a two-tone Jubilee looks Amazing on it....
I have an sarb017 and love it, currently on a Vintager strap by Micah
Another great vid. Good choices. Thanks
Thanks you. Seeing your video is what makes me finally decided to buy the alpinist. Even tough is it very expensive here in indonesia. Almost 650 usd here it almost 1 month salary :D
mahal bro
Two video ideas id love to see your take on. Russian watches (vostok, Poljot, ...) and watch modding!
Unless the Desert Island has a watch repair shop on it... I think you would want a 300M WR quartz powered solar watch.
T3, really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work. Question: What is your opinion on Nautica watches? I think they're made by Timex. I bought a Portofino for $70 on Amazon & it's got 100m water resistance and the bezel action is second to none! I can't believe how good the quality is.
Not gonna lie, I'd have picked your California dial bubble back. I could stare at that until the end of days.
In your opinion is there a big difference between the 34 mm date and the 36 mm datejust size wise on the wrist?
Great choice.
What about half a watch? Just saying...
I agree with you re the Seiko as opposed to the Rolex. I recon it looks more appealing too.
Man i love your videos 😂
I thought that the model 1500 had a 34 mm case size. Am I right?
It does
My only would be a Rolex oyster perpetual 34 blue with the 369 markers
Zero watch collection would be just using your phone 😂😐
XD
Blasphemy!
How about an Apple Watch LOL
Or a movado
Sun dial? 🤔
No disrespect, but if I am stranded on a desert Island, I want my Casio Rangeman (Solar, atomic, perpetual). I am not going to worry about how dressy my watch is for dinner! LOL I'd like a GPS Casio if they made one.
Mark Klein
Casio makes the GPS HYBRID WAVE CEPTOR watches.
I only purchase digital/g-Shock Casio watches, not analog. So, I'm waiting for Casio to come out with a digital Casio GPS watch.
If things get bad you can always trade it for some coconuts or cans of chicken of the sea.
I have ordered the Alpinist and it is on the way....I have a question may be one of you could help me...I want to put that watch on a steel bracelet..My question is if I buy a bracelet of the same size as the starp on that watch would it fit it perfectly? Or are there more things I need to consider?
X V Thank you for the suggestion. I will check that
I would bring my Casio protrek to that desert island. Solar, rubber, and 300m WR. Forget the rest.
Do you own any vintage watches 1900'-80s
+Sam H the Rolex in this video is from the 1960s.
HI time teller. i am impressed by your videos. i am into watches currently saving up for my next watch. however i dream of a rolex on my wrist someday. how did you manage to own rolex watches ?
The same way you will! I worked hard and saved up!
thank you sir. :)
It really is superb quality at an affordable price point.
White or silver dial goes with everything.
Do you have and is a watch winder?
On a desert island, I'd want an ABC watch with high water resistance. I mean, wouldn't one's main concern on a desert island be survival?
For the next time pls. do a video about arm bands.
hey new subscriber here, I love watches and have small collection that includes a vintage rolex datejust 36 mm, a vintage Raymond weil 36mm, a tissot pr100 quartz, a swatch ironey destination London and 2 seiko 5s. what do you think. I am collecting money to buy a good watch in the 1000$ to 2000$ range next year, any suggestions?
Can you make a 0 watch collection video??
Desert island or deserted island?
Perfect choices, and do you have a holy grail watch?
T3, if the Porsche 964 RS America is a holy grail sports car for you, what's your watch equivalent that you want to add to your collection?
I enjoy most of my watches too much to sell for a one watch "collection". I dont think it qualitys as a collection if there is only one, LOL.
Hey Jory, I don't really have anything to say other than I love your vidoes!
Are you in the Valley?
SKX, Baby!!!
What about -1?
Alternatives ?
Is one watch a collection?
Do a 1/2 watch collection
My new favorite watch guy...not that there's anything wrong with that.
I would bring Nomos worldtimer!
Price no object - Rolex Explorer
Under $2000 - Stowa Fleiger Klassik Sport
Under $500 - Steinhart OVM
the seiko has a date that starts to turn at 10:30 pm 😞
T3! One watch video under $220 ;)
Fun video. Thanks
Why do you look kinda happy and sarcastingly sad at the same time on the start of the video???
Not the tuna! Not. The. Tuna. In your defence the Rolex is pretty beautiful though.
