Great video!!! I searched ages for the RC10 gearbox and conversion kits. So hard to get a hold on them these days without selling your house+car+kidneys ;) After a long search I gave up and managed to mount a Traxxas gearbox instead. I love the look of this truck!
Yeah, it was a great find to have it all together like this! I know how hard it is to find the vintage RC10 parts. The only slipper pad I could could find was a used one for $60!! I had to try something else before I could even comprehend spending that much on it! So far the PTFE dick seems like it is going to work out but we will see! I lucked into this one and he reached out in a FB posting and said I needed one for the collection. We talked about it and next thing I new it was in the mail heading my way! I think it is super cool that it has some story behind it and it has all the original Ampro parts on it and came with the original Tamiya parts too. definitely one that is not even getting moved on!

I enjoy all my cars and trucks but the special ones are the ones with a story and this one certainly has a cool story! Now it has even more since Keith had sent the wheels and tires over and it looks soo good with them on there! Thanks so much for reaching out about it and offering it to me! It is definitely one of the most prized kits in my collection!
Right?? You and a hundred thousand others around the world!!! I would think a redesign of the arms to make them thicker and some machined metal gears for the transmission and they could release it again without any issues but who knows what the are ever doing there. Too busy releasing 85 road cars on the TT02!!
Awesome looking vintage car, even it is not in the purest original condition. But, as you said, you have the parts to convert it back to original. These cars bring back the memories of my early days in the RC hobby. Thanks for sharing! 😀
That was a cool bonus that it came with all the original parts! I love the story it has with it and it makes it special vs any other King Cab out there. I remember just drooling all over the magazine ads when this and the Hi Lux were released... I wanted one so bad but did not have the money to get one. Yes! The Falcon is another I don't understand either!! All they have to do is engineer some bracing into the kit for the easily broken parts and re-release it. At this point most of us would be happy for them to re-release the original castings of it and risk it breaking to have an affordable way to get one! Who know what goes on over in Tamiya HQ.
A true Tamiya icon Addam! I remember seeing this one on Ampro's channel a while back. YES Tamiya..... Please re re this model! A great asset to your awesome collection mate. 👍 👍 👍 👍

That is great Addam. Cool to see Ampro Engineering, RC Icons, Jack-O-Trades, and Addam’s Playground all mentioned in one video. 😁 You’d barely gotten the wheels secured before filming this one. That is an amazing truck. I do remember seeing those trucks launching into a stadium and would love to see that again.
Pretty much dead on! I got them in the mail Friday afternoon and took them out to the garage first thing Saturday morning and slapped them on there. It wasn't but maybe an hour later I realized I needed a WOTW episode so I turned around to see what I should do and tossed this right back up on the bench!! LOL! Yeah they used to run the truck and motocross like that especially in the smaller arenas! I am not sure if it was fun or terrifying for the drivers but it was one of the few sporting events I never missed! I would sit down with the newest TV guide and scan it from front to back to see if they had any upcoming!! Other than cartoons WWOS was probably one of the things I looked forward to the most!
We had this one down here but again it wasn't big down here I'm not familiar with it at all but it's still fascinating to hear the history of how these came about now the wide world of sports every Saturday afternoon absolutely a childhood favourite great vid Addam 👊
They were very popular here for about a year or two and then the 2WD stadium truck scene was being run by Losi, Associated and the others that were lower, lighter and way more nimble on the track. I remember scanning the TV Guide every time we got a new one cover to cover to see what was coming on WWOS and if the stadium truck racing was on there I made sure to be in the house and watching!! That was the one thing that was pretty rare to see but if it was on I was not going to miss it!
The Australian broadcast even had Webb Wilder I think that's correct human cannon ball was the theme song soon as I heard that I was at that tv like a ninja great memories
Absolutely a cool looking rig for sure Addam. This is an awesome looking rig man and I can see why it would be so Sought after. A great looking rig like this needs to be re-released!!
Yeah it is a real head scratcher on why they are holding out so long on some of these kits. One of these days hopefully it will come out. I hope I am still here when they finally get around to it! LOL! I could not pass on the opportunity to get this one, I knew if I did I would be kicking myself for a long time!
Hi there Addam, a great looking truck. Interesting modifications to the truck, to make it more usable. Nice instalment. Best wishes to you and the family. 😊😊
Thanks John, it is a great truck and I think it is complete now. The slipper clutch no longer being too slippy and the proper tires were the last things I needed! I will get it out and running around if and when it dries out some around here!
I know it is one of the the most wanted kits for Tamiya to re-release and outside of the transmission issue I don't get why they have not. It would be super easy for them to redesign the front and rear arms to make them less flexible and the gears in the transmission cannot be that difficult to beef up with some machined gears. I know collectors from all over the planet are waiting for them to come back out. I would certainly buy the hi lux and probably even another king cab if they brought them back out!! Only time will tell.
It was definitely an additional selling point! Have the story to go along with it was is super cool! He was super nice to have offered it up for sale, they do not come up very often! It is about as upgraded as I would ever want it so it worked out great!!
Nice one, Addam! Yeah, I think you know I'm not one of the puritans, so in my optics it sounds really cool for you to say you have an original Tamiya Nissan King Cab with Ampro parts. Those Ampro parts are also pretty legendary by now in the hobby community, so adds value, as well as mechanical benefit, ha ha!
Yeah it was too good to pass up. It is a cool truck that is hard to find someone willing to let one go, it has a story, it has some cool parts on it and is in great shape... had to get it! Keith sending me the almost perfect wheels and tires for it is just the icing on the cake as it finishes off the truck and I can call it complete now!
Thank you! Funny thing, Steve just said the same thing, that it looks bigger than normal. It may be a touch longer than some but it is about the same size overall. I will have to get it out side by side some of the others for comparison as now I ma second guessing myself!! LOL!! I am pretty sure it is about the same size and wheelbase of the Mud Blaster II and the maybe a little longer wheel base than the MB. I will have to double check when I go back out there today!
That is a awesome idea, I like that!!! I know it would not look perfect but it would look pretty close and would be a fun one to bomb around with!!! While I am typing this I am also chanting in my head "you do not need another project on the list, you do not need to put ANOTHER project on the list!!" LOL!!!!! I really would love to understand Tamiya's rationalization for avoiding these kits and other for so long! They have to know they are super desired kits. I guess they are making plenty of money stuffing shells on TT02s to worry about it.
Oh yeah, this was my first Tamiya back in 1990, and I still have it today in running condition! The original body is super thin around the rear lights, and splits easily by any impact. Back then I was very surprised that the wheel arches was pre cut from factory, this feature is now again seen on some newer releases.
That is awesome you still have it. Not much survived my childhood in one piece, I barely made it out alive!! I do love some pre-cut wheel arches!! I do pretty well on them but it is nerve wracking as I am always afraid at any second I am going to veer off the cutline and go straight across the body!! I never have but it is some odd inherent fear!! I can never get them as smooth as the machine cut though.
@Addam's Playground I got my King Cab when I was at the age of 20, so I believe it had not so a hard live as many other. But I can tell you it has scars, and they shows sweet memories!
Now that is has the right tires on it and the slipper is not going to be constantly slipping (I think) I will be getting it back out for a drive! I think it will hold up fine and if it breaks then hopefully it is one of the parts I can replace easily. If it were 100% original then I may not but I saw the run Ampro did with it so i know it is is pretty stout!!
@@AddamsPlayground Yeh I forgot about all the tough Ampro gear on it, I quess I was blinder by its age and condition. I'm glad you have it in the collection mate👍
This one need a good cleaning of the chassis but I plan on taking it out again as soon as it dries up around here so I figure why bother! I am very happy it is all wrapped up and the slipper is working (I think!) and the correct wheels and tires are on there!!
Thanks, it was too cool of a truck to pass up and I honestly did not expect to get one! It just happened and I am so happy it did! The wheels and tires finished it off and now I can consider it complete!
Wanted one of these so badly as a kid, I remember seeing one in the model shop and falling in love with it. My friend had just got a lunch box and I wanted something bigger than a buggy too.. can't remember if it was a price thing or an availability thing, but when the time came around my dad ended up getting me the bush devil 😈 30+ years later I would love either but have just got the lunch box black edition from the same model shop I went to as a kid 😀 my mates lunch box always looked way more fun to drive than mine did anyways 🙃
They were not a cheaper priced kit when they came out and there was no way I was going to get one but I sure drooled over the ads in the magazines and catalogs a lot!! I loved the stadium truck racing and would scan the TV guide from cover to cover when we got the new one to see if any were going to be broadcast!! It was rare to find one but when I did I made sure at all costs I was in there to watch it!! One of these days I hope Tamiya gets them re-released but until then the lunchie is a really fun one to keep you entertained!! I love mine!!
That looks nice, looks big to me too compared to other tamiya 1/10trucks. I used car gasket sheet they sell in different types to make your own car gaskets out of and I made slipper clutch pads it's the same material they use I believe for the slipper pads.
It is not much bigger than the others, I think the way it is designed makes it appear a bit bigger. It is roughly the same size and wheelbase of the Mud Blaster II or the Monster Beetle. Might be a touch longer wheelbase than the MB but it fairly similar. I looked in my local parts store and it was mostly the cork material they had in stock. I was going to order some from amazon but the descriptions did not give me any confidence it was going to be thick enough! I will try that if this fix doesn't pan out. I tried going into my LHS to match up something from another kit I could cut and use but nothing they had was large enough in diameter to work out.
Love your videos. I have a few vintage Radio Shack rc cars I've collected over the years. I bought 2 of the same red buggies that I had as a kid in the 80's. Maybe I'll make a video and show ya sometime! Great work with the channel brother, enjoying it.
Thank you! I am still on the lookout for a really nice condition Red Arrow buggy for a good price but it is not too high on the priority list so I am being very patient and waiting for the right one to show up. I do enjoy the RadioShack cars and trucks but space is becoming a premium again so I had to slow down on getting eBay deals! I'd love to see them on your channel!!! Take care and thank you for the kind words!
It would be cool to have a belt drive on here but it is all gear driven, just with the Associated Stealth transmission. May more solid internals and is more apt to taking the abuse than the stock Tamiya one is.
It's a great looking truck. This another time where I don't understand why Tamiya does or doesn't do something. You have a very sought after truck and you don't re-release it. Why not? The only conclusion I can draw is that Tamiya makes decisions on what is popular in Japan. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, this and the Falcon may be the some of the very most wanted and it would not take but so much effort to re-engineer a few components to make them more durable and able to be re-released. Just in parts alone they could make a killing! I mean the tires for these trucks for for ridiculous money now as they are getting next to impossible to get. Schumacher makes one set that is close to it and they are never in stock anywhere here in the states!! as soon as the arrive... out of stock!! They are two bust trying to fit another modern car body onto a TT02 chassis to care I guess! LOL!!
Very much so! I honestly wonder what they are listening to in order to find out what fans really want or if they even care at all. It seems like they just do whatever and hope it works out sometimes. I don't get it but I do hope they get off the rumps and start getting cars out that collectors have been negging for for years!
I know they can only make but so many things at one time but they could sell hundreds of thousands of these kits in an instant if they re-released them. I would even buy another!! But we will never know what they are planning or thinking over there! The Bullhead was always a very cool and tough looking truck!!!
I really like the king cab and also wish they would re-release this model. I have two one I bought off eBay and restored to box art except for proline trencher tires because the originals you can't find. And last year I actually got my original King cab back that I bought soon after their release and did a crazy zebra stripe paint job on it. When I bought my original king cab I did a crude zebra job on it with spray on enamel which as you can imagine didn't go so well 😄
Yeah parts are not easy to get and the tires are super hard to find!! I have no idea why the are dragging their feet on re-releasing so many kits. I know they can only make but so many kits but do we really need another street car on a TT02 instead of them working on something folks have been begging for! I can imagine the original body you had went from looking pretty cool to really rough fast! I know we all probably had some pretty sketchy paint jobs and body repairs in the past!
Yeah I know the stock drivetrain with not the best. I think they even came with extra shim to help lengthen the life of the diff as the balls wore groves in there but usually just helped speed up up its eventual death! Thankfully this one had been upgraded to the RC10 Stealth transmission and diff so it should be able to hold up until I am dead and gone!
Hi Addam. Really interesting as this is after I had got out of the hobby first time around (about 1985). I know that it is sought after by Tamiya fans a bit younger than me and looking at yours I can see why. It's a shame that there are gearbox issues because it looks like the sort of thing that you'd want to put a quick motor in and bash the heck out of (if it wasn't so rare!) Good stuff my friend 🙂
It was one I really loved as a kid and there was no way my parents were able to get it for me so it was really awesome I was able to check off that old wishlist item!! I am sure if they made some machined gears for it then it would hold up to much more. They could learn a little from the Kyosho legendary series! I do hope they re-release it as there are so many that missed out on these or beat theirs to death that would really love to get one!
I had no expectations of having one either as they are so hard to come by but this one just worked out and fell into my lap so I had to jump on it!! I am very glad I did too! I love it!
I bet you could do the old car transmission trick of sand blasting the steels for the slipper and making it have a friction surface again if the ptfe fails
Yeah, I have tried to find out what materials are generally used for slipper pads but could not find an answer. I tried finding a pad big enough to cut a new one from or even a large blank piece but had no luck there either. I did find a slipper pad on eBay but they wanted $60 for it that was a big ol nope! I think this will work ok and I don't plan on running it super hard it was just constantly slipping before so as long it grips and goes that is perfect! I'll have to make a little coke bottle sand blaster if it doesn't!!
@@AddamsPlayground ahh I was thinking that the steel and the friction material was just glazed . As Vice grip garage says, it’s not a dumb idea if it works 😂
They don't come up too often, most folks that have are not willing to part with them so I jumped at the opportunity! It came with a bit of history and a nice bit of upgrades and all the original parts too so it was kind of a no brainer! I would forever be kicking myself for not getting it! Nobody ever knows what is going on from Tamiya so only time will tell, until then we will get a Hyundai on a TT02 to hold us over... LOL!!!
@@lo2713 It should hold up much better and longer for sure! I only have a 21t in there now. It does well enough with that I don't need anything faster.
I that the initial interest dried up quickly in them as by the time they came out with this the 2WD stadium truck scene was exploding and the buggy chassis stadium trucks (Losi, Associated, etc.) were coming out and taking over. So I think the sales of these tanked some as they were bigger, slower and not as durable. Couple the short time they were out and never being re-released made them extremely hard to come by in good shape and has made them more collectable. I personally fell in love with them in the magazine ads and catalogs but there was not way I was going to get one. I think there is a fair amount of us that wanted on and couldn't have it and want one or some that actually had it and drove it into the ground and want another!
I've been wanting Tamiya to rere this, but maybe it is just too problematic. Too many issues. It would need a Kyosho Legends type of rere, and Tamiya just doesn't seem to want to do that...
Yeah, it really needs solid web arms and not the flimsy hollow web ones and if they could put machined gears on the internals then that should solve the weak gear issues (should). They often leave me scratching my head with their releases! "We know you guys wanted a re-release but how about another Yaris or Mazda on a TT02... that should make you happy for a while..." LOL!!
@@AddamsPlayground Also in a collision the frame breaks. I think that is why AmPro made a new front bumper. Still, if they rere’d it, I’d buy it. 😂 Spent many hours drooling over the King Cab with the Tower Hobbies Mail order catalogue as a kid.

Thanks John, it is a great truck and I think it is complete now. The slipper clutch no longer being too slippy and the proper tires were the last things I needed! I will get it out and running around if and when it dries out some around here!
Wow love these and the hi lux would love one.. awesome Addam 👍👍🤩🏅
Sure is a great looking truck. Love the livery on this. It’s also cool that you’ve got this directly from Ampro. Its all upgraded for you already!😁👍
It was definitely an additional selling point! Have the story to go along with it was is super cool! He was super nice to have offered it up for sale, they do not come up very often! It is about as upgraded as I would ever want it so it worked out great!!
Cool rc and great information
Thanks Bud! It is a really cool truck with a neat background and some cool parts. I am super happy to have been able to get it!
Another great installment Addam! This truck seems large for a Tamiya 1/10! Beautiful truck!👍😊
Wow Amazing💕 So cool🌼 Have a nice day♪✨
Thank you! Cheers!
Love those trucks. Didn't see them until all gone. Darn. So I fixed up a Traxxas Stampede version. The Toyota was my favorite.
@@AddamsPlayground got that right.
Cool one in the collection Addam👌. You've got some nice hop ups too!.
I think I'd be to afraid to run it. Thanks for showing it mate, very nice👌🦘🇦🇺
@@AddamsPlayground
Yeh I forgot about all the tough Ampro gear on it, I quess I was blinder by its age and condition.
I'm glad you have it in the collection mate👍
I certainly love mine!! Fabulous truck! I just need to clean mine up!!! Lol
This one need a good cleaning of the chassis but I plan on taking it out again as soon as it dries up around here so I figure why bother! I am very happy it is all wrapped up and the slipper is working (I think!) and the correct wheels and tires are on there!!
This kit is awesome brotrher🙏🙏👍🏼👍🏼
That reminds me of a belt drive system for the spur and pinning gear
LOL!!
Sweet rig.Fuzzy Flynn needs to be RE-re'd
Very much so! I honestly wonder what they are listening to in order to find out what fans really want or if they even care at all. It seems like they just do whatever and hope it works out sometimes. I don't get it but I do hope they get off the rumps and start getting cars out that collectors have been negging for for years!
Always hard when the favorite kit is discontinued and/or cost $$$$ on fleabay. Glad you got that one.
I am holding out for a nib Bullhead.
I know they can only make but so many things at one time but they could sell hundreds of thousands of these kits in an instant if they re-released them. I would even buy another!! But we will never know what they are planning or thinking over there! The Bullhead was always a very cool and tough looking truck!!!
Awesome video!
I love the look of the Nissan body it looks so cool!
It is such a cool looking truck, it is not wonder why so many want this to be re-released!!
You finally got the right tires almost.
almost? They are the stock tires for it...
@@AddamsPlayground I swear the spikes were pointier.
I have the Madcap and it uses the same differential. Even though it's much smaller and lighter the whole ball diff disintegrated with stock 540 motor!
This I like and don't have... by now.
I had no expectations of having one either as they are so hard to come by but this one just worked out and fell into my lap so I had to jump on it!! I am very glad I did too! I love it!
And they should make it again.
They look awsome, ive never seen one sale, but never looked to hard to be fair, could 2023 be the year we see a rere 🤔
LOL!!!
@@AddamsPlayground was supprised to hear it had stealth tranny in it, nice bit of kit and like you say, will allow the car to take a hot motor 😎
@@lo2713 It should hold up much better and longer for sure! I only have a 21t in there now. It does well enough with that I don't need anything faster.
Track run.😁
once the track dries out, I am not running this in the mud
So I'm curious to know how much you paid for this especially with all the upgrades
It was over $500 but I don't recall the exact amount.
i know what you mean, there is a big following for this one. why do you think drives the love affair? truthfully, not much my type!
I'd like to Toyota one but I would prefer the Nissan one more it's better looking.
I like both of them. I had a crush on both of them as a kid!
@@Triggered-RC Yes, you are right. I forgot about that being an issue.
