The joke is people thought Blizzard would actually do anything about griefers. Like bots, they’ll only ban often enough to make it SLIGHTLY inconvenient for the griefers.

    • @desert123100
      @desert123100 11 месяцев назад +18

My thoughts exactly. Unfortunately griefing is just "part of the game" whether players/blizzard likes it or not. A huge part of playing a hardcore game mode is game knowledge and I would argue that not accepting summons from randoms on a HC can fall into that category. Similar things happen in other games, for example in runescape people will give / drop teleports to the deep wilderness (an area where PVP is allowed) and wait for unsuspecting people to use them not knowing where they go and kill them.

    • @nickh4354
      @nickh4354 11 месяцев назад +16

They've actually banned alot of griefers and there's clips of in game GM's stepping in to act on occasion. Trust me I'm as surprised as anyone this is happening. If I had to guess the very small team they put on HC patrol are actually passionate about the game, and the top guys don't actually care what they do, so they're free to act so to speak.
Also, haven't seen many bots at all, I know there are some out there but I haven't seen the effect of them yet

@@desert123100 just because people do it doesn't mean it should be allowed or ignored, they should get banned plain n simple. Griefing adds nothing of value to anyone, people only do it because they wanna be assholes n feel like they're good at the game when really they're dog shit. Most other companies would get rid of them, but blizzard and their hands off approach causes even more people to do this since they know they won't get punished.

Just explain to me right.. I am a noob in wow. But why is griefing banable? In grind desert online we had this 24/7 but this created ingame political agreements among guilds.
Is this just on hardcore though? i could slightly get it why a ban is necessary in some situations.

I work with 13/14 yr olds for a living and I gotta say this - Asmon is spot on with this. Not everyone has a reason for being a shitty person. Sometimes they just are a shitty person. Their parents can be involved in their life, do everything right, and the kid can still just turn out to be a shitty person. Most times, yeah there's a reason, but not 100% of the time.

Recent tv shows and modern WoW have made people think that everyone thinks the same 'cept with issues.
When in reality, some's brains are just wired differently
Some get through absolutely no dopamine at all in life until they're fucking someone over
That's just how it is, psychopaths and sociopaths _are_ real. It's a thing.
Some only feel alive when they watch the world burn and nearly getting caught doing it.

    • @spookyclaws5350

I agree, some people just get born shitty. There's certain traits we get born with (which we can tone down/improve along the way) and some people either don't care or just get joy out of being a shitty person. There's plenty of kids that come from good families, had a lot of love, had everything they could ask for and they're still pieces of shit. And also kids that come from bad families full of abuse/drugs/violence that turn out to be very important members of our society, that are great people and are overall okay (besides the trauma).

@@norbertcsaszar4746 "These people could be the best person you would ever meet" except they're not. It's not like a harmless joke, they intentionally killed characters that had dozens/hundreads of hours behind them just for 3 seconds of pleasure. Those are not good people. They're not murderers either, they're just unwanted social rejects that won't do much besides play videogames in their mom's basements until their moms die or they die of diabetes. Good people don't get pleasure out of being dicks.
This is called schadenfreude - the pleasure you get out of watching other people struggle, watching people be miserable, mad, angry, upset, etc. It's a behavior that's linked with sociopaths, psychopaths and narcissists - all disorders that make you lack empathy more or less.
Nobody does stuff without getting some kind of reward out of this. You can't say these guys just randomly did this but they don't necessarily enjoy watching other's misery. They do this because they LOVE misery, they love ruining other people's day. What you said has no basis "they could be the best people" and Hitler could also be the best person. It's a hypothesis that has no grounds, just your own personal opinion. A murderer can also be the best person you've ever met. Yes I know these examples are extreme, but I use them so you understand that what you said is stupid.
Nobody that loves to watch other people struggle - see schadenfreude again - could ever possibly be a good person. They couldn't be good people, because statistics and in depth studies about the phenomen shows they are not good people at all.
There's a HUGE difference between causing someone you know some slight inconvenience (as you said, teabagging each other, doing some silly pranks, things we ALL do), and going out of your way to ruin other people's hundreads of hours of progress. You shooting your friend doesn't lose them 200 hours, it just gets them mad for 10 seconds, and you don't spend an hour of your time to make the perfect plan, then spend countless hours to test it, before shooting your friend.
I need you to realize this guy spent HOURS to find the perfect spot, advertize his portals, and find victims. It wasn't just a 2 seconds decision like you shooting your friend. He spent HOURS to cause STRANGERS misery.

If I were Blizzard I would have added a bounce back skill to the teleport, something that can solve the problem and be fun:
When the player exits the teleport he/she will have a 1.5 seconds countdown, during this moment the player will be able to press F again to teleport back, even if he/she moved away from teleport platform.
Players with good reflexes or aware will still have a chance to save themselves from falling pressing F in time.
Newbies or noobs will still fall.
Also it could save the arse of anyone who teleports into a compromised position (let's say, with an enemy Tracer waiting to ult whoever comes out)

Hi, as someone who matured/evolved (44 now) from exactly the 'fake empathy' perspective you describe, I'd like to put some extra things in perspective. Sure at first glance you are right, in my twenties/thirties I also was not able to understand the profile of griefers or people acting bad in general. But that's not because my empathy was fake. It was because I wasn't able to use my empathy because reality didn't map my world view. I was projecting my world view onto others in terms of expectations (in my case because of the way I was brought up) because if I wouldn't have then I also wouldn't have been able to explore and discover in depth my own empathy, or at least not in the way I did.
Sometimes you have to go down the rabbit hole to discover personal boundaries, collide with it and only then become more detached and re-apply your talents and instincts differently .. more broadly. People project because uncounsiously they need to justify their way of looking at the world until they reach the point they can do without. Or not reach it and stay in it equally fine.. it depends on what they experience in life and it is what makes us human.. there is no such thing as 'perfect position' .. and yes this is exactly why bad stuff happens without any cause and why letting go of the need for causality is what makes us more free and allows us to deal better with traumatizing experiences for example.
The point I'm making is it doesn't have to be fake empathy. It just empathy that's not evolved or matured enough yet to see the bigger picture so that - ironically - it can be applied onto such situations more succesfully. Empathy is not black or white. Like one could argument you are empathic towards griefers even though it's rationalized it still allows you to not judge them (which is a core part of being empathic). So you saying it's fake empathy might just be an equally intuïtive instinctive projection of your world view as it was for the empath not being able to understand griefers. It's just about initial reactions that trigger us but might mature later.
All of this is pretty unconcious stuff and usually drives a lot of the good & bad stuff that happens to us. Ranging from great marriages to horrible depressions. My current view on it is: important moments fly by every now and then and it's just about being allowed or able to grab the opportunity to evolve on it.
Anyways I want to end with saying I usually like how outspoken you are and often I feel you hit the nail on the head but on this one: I felt I had to say this. Take care :)

I was 20 levels away from max level, they were all max levels. I lost gear, money and experience. When you died in EQ2(don't remember how it was in EQ1) you risk loosing gear that isn't bound. And a certain % of money in your inventory, hence you bank your cash all the time.
PvP servers in EQ2 was a nightmare on the receiving end. You had whole raids running around hunting solo players.
Didn't get past level 28 on EverQuest. Got into it too late, didn't have the money for any expansion packs. And the grindfest was real. CAMP CHECK! Remember farming and buying up spider silk in the Dark Elf starting area and selling it to someone I got to know, who had the right expansion pack and so had access to the moon. It was quite profitable for us both.

@@kopicat2429 No, I think they most certainly would prefer to see the reaction. That's why they summon a streamer and have his reaction in the video. I'm just trying to figure out if it's 1 person, 2, or 3. If this is a lone actor, then it's definitely the most evil of the 3 possibilities. It takes the most planning and time (to level and position the characters), and frontloads all the reward and pleasure of the act on the act itself instead of the reaction and experience you'd get revelling in it your buddy.
But there seems to be two bad actors here, because you can hear laughing in the video. In all likelihood, it was probably two people that carried it out, with one dude helping and the other multiboxing. Two or more raises the interesting question of where you even find someone willing to match your smallness, but in my opinion is significantly less deranged because, in all likelihood, they probably wouldn't have bothered with all the work if it meant they couldn't laugh at them with their buddy.
The most depraved would be a lone actor with NO video recorded. This in all honestly would have caused the most chaos and suffering, because they could have done it for longer, less people would have been clued into it, and there would be significantly less public outrage. It would mean they're not even in it for the notoriety or infamy, only for a pure desire to spite others.

Real commitments they may have made to do this dungeon or that raid later on that day, which they couldn't do anymore (and thus they had to disappoint their friends of guild) due to this. Sports is a game, chess is a game, any sort of competition is a game, yet there are rules, goals, dreams, struggles and hardships involved. Your (or people's) anonymity or the general virtual nature of the interaction neither gives you the right to abandon all rules of decency and empathy, nor does it necessarily make these kinds of actions any less damaging and condemnable.
One other thing you may not be taking into account is the effect this has on the psyche of your victims. They might never trust a stranger's help again, might never play this game or any other online game again, due to being traumatized or at least burnt from a harmful interaction like this. "Once burnt, twice shy" - it does not matter if that harmful experience occurred online or offline. If you were emotionally invested, and lost real effort and value due to the evil of other people, it is completely plausible that some people may be traumatized by that.

Some people just troll to troll, I remember back when I was like 10-12 I used to play Minecraft quite a bit and it was really fun to infiltrate groups of people in factions or group skyblock ect and become friends for a couple weeks sometimes longer and then I get bored of those people and destroy everything that was built in that time and never talk to them again and do it again at another time.

No slow fall or Immunity after portal, because that could be abused. Instead, allow a third option "View Portal" where a ghost of your character goes through the portal for 10 seconds, to see what would happen if you actually committed

Imagine if, like in some games, people "dropped" items and equipment on death.
This would be a real mafia to farm items and equipment, specially in a game where people are hidden behind the character, committing virtual murder is already being done without profits, if they could do robbery as well...

Nah when you let people do w/e they want without consequences, expecting good results is idiotic, people's nature is not "goodness and kindness", people only do what is rewarded and avoid doing(or get caught doing) things that are punishable.
Being "good and kind" used to be rewarded and still is to some extent, that why most people try to be or try to "look" like that with all the virtue signaling bs, but if people were to really go "masks off", the number of genuinely good and kind people would be so small that it would not make any difference.
