I have a 2009 "S" that I've put over 8000 miles on. Your review pretty well sums it up. Better off-road tires would let you stretch out your dirt rides a bit. No problems with mine whatsoever, valves checked @ 8,000 miles and everything was within spec. More power is always nice, but once you get used to riding it you'll have a ball and forget that it's only 250cc's.
I love this bike. I bought my 09 with 900 miles for $3,500 in southern california. It came with a 2brothers carbon exhaust too. Good Review I would of gave it about an 8/10 all around imo too. For me its a 10/10 for what I use it for. City driving with random adventures.
Thanks David for a great review. I'm an experienced but aggressive rider and am looking for a good bike for in-town riding. Looking at the DRZ400sm, the WR250x, and the KLX250sf, and found your review very helpful.
900 miles is really decent. But, I have been seeing 2007's selling for $1500-2000. I also have seen 2009 selling for 2000-2500. So you made somebody really happy that you gave him back pretty much what he paid new.
awesome review goes over alot of info that a prospective buyer needs. Almost positive i want this as my first motorcycle after using a 49cc honda ruckus.
Here is Southern California there still $3,500+ "For sale 2009 Kawasaki KLX250SF with only 2,951 miles for $3700" On my local craigslist. "2009 KAWASAKI KLX250S - $4495 (Covina, CA) Mileage: 5,088", "2009 Kawasaki KLX250S Lime Green - $3999 (Ontario, CA) Mileage: 2,270". Yeah so I'm happy with mine lol
Do you think getting an '09 with 8000 miles for $2800 is a good deal? It has some scratches on the plastics from being tipped over, but it's in otherwise excellent condition. These look like such fun and awesome bikes.
Hey, Why do people say the 250S is so bad for the street? I mean with some basic mods i cant figure out what would be wrong. I am looking to buy one in a few days but here in the city there are not many for sale and we are limited. I would like some advice please.
Derp I guess california has raised prices for EVERYTHING lol. I looked at the WR250R. I wanted and also looked at a Yamaha WR250R wanted to try a Fuel Injected motorcycle just to see the difference, But I couldn't fit on the seat for street driving. I'm only 5'5" lol. The wr250x was hard to find too. This is the only one I saw on craigslist today "Yamaha WR250X Black $6999 (Fontana, CA" with 701 miles... Ridiculous.
need an opinion...ive been riding dirtbikes all my life and am looking at getting my first street bike but im specifically looking at buying a 250 entry level dual sport preferably of the Kawasaki klx line up....whats your opinion should i get the klx250sf or the klx250s as my first bike...i do intend on riding street and trail with this bike and will be getting 2 full sets of tires for the 2 terrains i am partial to the supermoto but wanted a second opinion
If you get the 250SF you don't need to convert it to a street legal bike, saving you hundreds of dollars. So get the sf and just buy on road/off road tires. Definitely do not get the S if you plan on riding on the street
***** Im talking about Mass, no idea where you live but the majority of places require street tires, blinkers, etc to be street legal. The S model is not street legal stock out of the factory
What year is the Yamaha 250x? Because $6,999? There like $6,600 brand new from dealership. I know there are special made ones specifically for California. I guess for epa or something not sure. But, I'm 5'11" i think.. The bike is a little big something I wasn't use to but I got the hang of it really quick. Don't get me wrong the KLX is a really nice bike. You almost can't be 900 miles. You got a deal for sure. But, like I said theres some selling for cheaper than that.
I have this bike in black and love it (check my riding videos out). Its my first bike and I use it for commuting around a city with occasionally hitting a mountain road (live in Hollywood). Im 6'2 200 lbs and I feel fine on it. Ive owned it for a year now and can honestly say I still like it about as much as when I first got it, although after gaining riding experience I now wish it has a little bit more power (I already rejetted and did intake and exhaust mods) but other than that its perfect.
It came stock with red/white plastics. I painted the white ones black. There are not too many aftermarket plastics for this bike for some reason, the oem ones are pretty pricey too.
I agree looks better in black. The motard tires on them suck off road though. And when your butt starts to shirt I take my left arm put it over the gas tank and lay down and it feels a million times better.
I'm in South Florida. I just bought a 2010 Yamaha wr250x for $2,500 which is a ridiculously cheap. Has 5,000 miles on it. I still see KLX selling for less than $3,000 all the time sometimes less than $2,000. Not a big fan of Kawasaki they break down all the times around here. So if I were to buy one used I wouldn't pay more than $3,000
I know you already bought your bike but next time shopping. Go to google type in KLX 250 for sale or whatever your shopping for. Then look for a link called motorcycles . yakaz . com this site compares all the bikes prices all around the country from listlux ebay craigslist etc....

Your review was spot on. I have one and I LOVE it!
I was really close from getting one of these but ended up getting wr250x with yoshi pipe and i do not regret at all

I don't live a an area with a hot climate but no, I did not experience any hot start issues
Just a heads up.......I think that road you were riding on was closed or something. I'm not exactly sure, but for some reason I think it was.
Very well executed review! Very detailed! I'm thinking of selling my K7 Gixxer 600 and getting something like this. :-)

did you have any problems with hot starts? I have seen others with this problem.
is the rear shock adjustable I'm a pretty big guy, I'm looking at an 09.
Today, what would you say it worth? I'm finding one for $2,600 with upgraded jets and a sprocket down.
Very nice review! Sweet bike!

cool, i just picked up the same bike today with all black plastics but i thought it would be cool to run the inverse of what you got there
It looks better in all black. I just bought one
Great video sweet bike
You ever end up throwing dirt tires on this?
great review!
