2 Small Furniture Shabby Chic Makeovers | Recover a Bench Cushion | Fabric Rosettes

- In this video, I'm taking 2 pieces that I made over years ago, and giving them a fresh new look!
I've had the bench for about 35 years The and gave it an update about 10 years ago, so it was time for another makeover. Same thing with the footstool...I am updating my outdated updates!
I purchased the fabric from Hobby Lobby, and it's 45 inches wide. I used a 25 inch long section to recover the bench. The fabric for the rosettes is white cotton muslin, also from Hobby Lobby.

Look around your home for pieces you can makeover, too!

Beautiful job on both pieces of furniture Becky! I especially love the fabric pearl roses around the stool! Becky, I am so excited I found your channel this morning! I absolutely love your style and your teaching method. I would love it even more if you would show how you disassemble and assemble pieces like your bench for people like me who have never reupholstered before, but would really love to start. P.S. I can’t wait to try out making those adorable rosettes today! So cute! So stinking cute! I can’t wait to see more of your DIY’s
I’m glad you’re here, Theresa! I edited that footage out, not realizing some may want to see it. I have another reupholstering project coming up in a few weeks, and I will show the whole process. Thank you for watching and having fun with those rosettes!

Hi Becky! These are absolutely beautiful! You have inspired me to try the stencil project on a small footstool I have here at home! BTW I know your sis Paula. Worked with her here in California! She's simply the BEST! Looking forward to your next video!
Oh my goodness, what a small world! Paula is truly an amazing person. Have fun stenciling your footstool, and thanks for watching!
The bench is magnifique! I think the little foot stool is adorable... Love those little rosettes! You did great!
Thank you, Mary! Your sweet comments made my day! I’m looking around to see what else needs a few rosettes. 😃
I love the wax detailing!
Thanks, I love it too! Wax really makes those details pop.
I love those flowers, but I love everything you did today🙏 new subscriber here! I wish I followed you before I started upholstering my furniture 😂😭🤦♀️

@@kindashabby funny you should mention that! I started a group chat on IG and someone recommended I ask if you wanted to be in it... and they sent me your link and now I’m hooked 🙌
@@kindashabby and thank you! Community is so important 🥰
@@freckledmom what a coincidence! Was it Indie Annie Jones?
@@kindashabby indeed it was. She’s such a good friend and so talented 💖
Loving your channel, new supporter here 💚
Thank you! So glad to have you here!
Love the green color of the bench. I too have same color curtains. Would it be possible to use a white was instead of black? Just wondering. Love the beautiful fabric.. practical, too! An all white stool would not stay white long at my house, LOL. Hubby is right, great garter stool! So charming with the roses. TFS.
You could definitely use whatever color suites your decor. I used black to tie in some of the black elements in the fabric. I need to put a spray sealer on the little white stool. I frequently use it for staging photos and it needs a few touch ups.
💖💖💖💖
Thank you, Melba!
Hi, I really enjoy watching your videos. I am making over my bathroom and bedroom in Shabby Chic! Can you tell me the name of the fabric you used for the bench? I know you said you got it at Hobby Lobby, but I may have to go on line and a name might help. I am watching all of your shows. You are a great teacher.. I was a high school English and math teacher for 20 years. You do an excellent job. Thanks, Jane in TX
Hello Jane, and thank you so much for watching! I looked at the fabric selvage and it said “ Brother Sister Design Studio”, but did not have any other identifying information. I know your bathroom and bedroom will be just fabulous! As a former Elementary Music teacher, I use the same concepts to break down a project into smaller steps. I appreciate your kind comments Jane!
These turned out beautiful! Indie Annie Jones, featured you in your live chat tonight and sent me over. I subscribed to your channel after seeing this video! Love 💕 & hugs 🤗 God bless
Wow, thank you! I’ll have to thank Annie too. Glad you’re here!
Hi I am also redoing my bench just like yours what color did you use for it I love that I did the video 5 times and you never said I love your videos very well done.
Hi Carmen! I had it color matched to my curtains, but it is very close to the Behr Chalk Paint in the color “Surf”. My color was mixed using the Behr Chalk Paint from Home Depot. You may be able to use this code from my lid. Base:7100/clrnt:384th/axl:96/dl:183/jl:18. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
♥️
Thank you, Linda!
Like your style of decorating designs. Question: have you even tried raised stencil on a piece of furniture?
Thank you so much Lin! I haven’t tried that technique yet, but it’s on my filming schedule in the next few weeks. I’ve gathered up my supplies and can’t wait to give it a try!
I am confused on how to incorporate painted furniture with wood pieces I have. I'm from a generation that matched everything. Could you go over mixing painted and stained furniture and make it look great!£
Hi Karen! I have wood furniture in both dark and light tones in my home. I also have pieces that I painted in white, light gray, charcoal gray, and soft aqua. Drapes, rugs, blankets, pillows and other accessories can give a cohesive look. Julie at the RUclips channel “Julie’s Designs and Signs” mixes wood and painted pieces beautifully.
How on earth do you not get any paint on your clothes without wearing an apron? I have to wear an apron and still manage to get some paint on my sleeves sometimes and you don’t even wear any gloves either!!
Hahaha! That’s why I’m in the same few shirts in every video. I don’t want to mess up my nice ones. I’ve used gloves in the past, but can’t wear them very long because my hands get sweaty. Coconut oil and baking soda paste quickly removes paint from my hands. Thanks for watching Pia!
