You know what makes me mad? That these are the same devs of SFF2 (a *free* fangame of super smash bros), in which they post WEEKLY updates on their twitter account, while Fraymakers (a game they are literally being paid to work in) needs 6 months to work on a single character that was supposed to be finished at this point ...
Trust me smh, I've seen those twitter post and wondered why ssf2 is getting so much more attention. Don't get me wrong, I love ssf2 and can't wait for another update. But I bought Fraymakers and can't even enjoy my purchase.
Checking this video now after 3 months and I gotta admit, as a fan of Fraymakers (I am a backer), my feelings have remained the same and I'm genuinely uncertain about this games future now. The Watcher is indeed very fun and while I think the wait for her was a bit too long for my liking, it's better late than never. And you'd think that would be them finished with all the content shown from the Kickstarter right? Nope, there's still a total of 2 assists left to be unveiled released who were shown in the kickstarter campaign. And only after then will all the content from JUST THE KICKSTARTER be there. All the characters do have complete animations except for Welltaro whose side special is still currently the only unfinished move. But seeing as it's the only one now I'm not too bothered by it compared to when this was a widespread issue with most of the cast at the start of the launch. But taking and step back and really looking at where we are now and how long it did take us to get there, I am worried of the games longevity, how long will it be before the next character or big update? Personally speaking, I really think McLeod Gaming might need to start prioritising Fraymakers over SSF2 a lot more as I believe that game is indirectly harming it. the love and care they put into SSF2 is proof they are absolutely more than capable of pulling this off...But SSF2 is a well made fan game at the end of the day, while Fraymakers is an officially licensed project that they can actually profit out of.
I think the Problem with fraymakers is the fact that its being developed by a small minority from the SSF2 dev team, which not only the reason why SSF2 have been slow with update and also why fraymakers was also a buggy mess.. I've always felt like Fraymakers would have been better done if it was developed by a different indie team but still published as an IP under McLeodGaming.
This game always looked promising. I just checked and it's still in early access, so it having incomplete features isn't unexpected, but it sounds like development is moving along slowly. Reception on Steam is good though.
I am very conflicted about Fraymakers. I see so much good in this game and I will support the development team because despite the slow progress, you can tell that they understand platform fighters and have passion in the game. There's another video by Eyesoar "Flash Party vs. Fraymakers: A Problematic Comparison" where they partially discuss Fraymakers great intentions and solid foundation, but lack of resources. It stuck out to me because it is fairly accurate. Fraymakers as it is currently, "is a gourmet appetizer" and I agree. You can see the vision, you can see what makes this game unique, everything on paper sounds amazing, but we're not there yet. It's great that they understand how much rollback improves a game, Octodad and The Watcher are some of the highlights of the great art, some of these are unique character concepts that stand out with few comparisons in the genre. It just hurts that Fraymakers doesn't have the resources that it needs because the current rollback has people preferring to play on delay-based connections, there are still some unfinished animations, and these few unique characters are just too few to support a fighting-game long-term. I'll still play the game. I want to support McLeodGaming because this game does so much that I love and can't really get anywhere else. The assists are fun and allow me to tweak how I play, I enjoy this combo system because I feel like I'm not trying to repeat the exact same combo, it's the only platform fighter out of like at least a dozen I could name that runs natively on Linux, I want to get into creating Workshop content for this game. While Fraymakers is in a terminal state right now (22 players in a 24h peak on Steamcharts at the time of writing), I really hope that it can at least find its footing in the future. I'd hate to see this wither and die.
I know I would be mad too. See, this is why I don't want to rush into game advertising until I'm done with a bit of the game... like, near completion and not just a completed concept. [I almost ended up like that].
@JacquIreBriggs 6 minutes ago I dropped a dollar on this just to recommend a character from Crystal Story and now I checked how the game is going. Wow, I honestly can’t be more disappointed. Another platform fighter with Welltaro and Orcane, Indie Pogo, appear to have fallen into the same fate. No more updates after the Bullet Guy from Enter the Gungeon.
I saw it on the steam page and thought it looked great, but I was hesitant buy it cause I haven’t heard of it before, which was a bad sign. So luckily I found this video, so I’ll hold off on buying this game until I see that it’s garnering the attention it truly deserves
Fraymakers is unfortunate, given that SSF2 is still getting updated, its interesting to think what the division of work is between the teams. Not to mention, this game started the kickstarter in the middle of covid, and I really really hope that it'll come back. But having a small cast in a fighting game is becoming unbecoming it seems as more and more games need massive casts just to draw people in. I wonder what the hell is going on behind the scenes for that game
I wonder the same thing 😪 honestly it’s still a W on their end cause they made nearly one million dollars from the kick starter and early access for a game that continues to underperform. What’s going on behind the scenes ? They’re laughing to the bank
Ssf2 and Fraymakers dont have the same team, but the Fraymakers team came from working with ssf2. Also the reason that it's taking so much time is the excessively detailed artstyle that they use, and the fact that the team has 3 developers at max. The next character, The Watcher will be released soon (probably this month), so I'm still believing in Fraymakers for delivering everything they said.@@anOccasionalGamer
I get that. For me it’s just the principle. If they were transparent about the state of the game I would feel differently. But it was advertised as a polished product, intentionally not showing how rough the game actually was. 🙃
Even if it’s early access, $20-30 for an unfinished game with only like two barely finished characters is a LOT to ask, especially since we’ve only gotten like two new characters released since it launched over a YEAR ago
@anOccasionalGamer uhhh a couple, Incineroar, Bowser, a couple Original Characters from a different fighting game, Deadpool, Foxy and I've helped a couple people with characters as well
@anOccasionalGamer you should check out some of the other people who make stuff on the workshop, it's really carrying the game rn tbh. Nuova, Fella, SaltLevelsMax, Kactus, Nyon they're all big modders who make really quality things
At the very least they could've at least work on the bots so people can actually practice and have something to do by themselves. Bots are so bad rn in this game
“The GTA 6 of fighting games” is so real
It's the unfortunate truth 😓
Really hope it doesn't just get abandoned, I think they just released it way way too early
That would be tragic, but that’s the risk of supporting kickstarter games 😪
They did Octodad so bad, I haven’t heard of him again since middleschool and now I see him in a fighting game.
Yeah 😅 It would be dope to get another Octodad game, however, the developers have a lot of other game ideas for their next project

Yeah I feel you on that. I love SSF2 but I agree, there should be a more priority for Fraymakers. 😅 I did pay for it at the end of the day.
Ive heard and seen fraymakers before but so little happened in the timeframe that i forgot it even existed
I don’t blame you 😅

I've never heard of An Occasional Gamer before, just wanted to say: Bro what a magnificent beard and hair combo, look at that thing!
😅 I appreciate it yo 👊🏽
team fray will not give up im sure of it but the game has a long way to go, in the mean time imma play rivals 2

Glad I could help out. It's not worth picking up right now. Hopefully change soon enough.
Ay you put the thing at the end 😄
Had to switch it up 😅

That was beta. They took the game down for about a year and rebuilt it in unreal engine
its in early access not released
