Actually the most important thing is a sturdy bed and good quality mattress. From a person suffering from herniated lumbar disc and in chronic pain that can never 100% recover ever again.
The core should be firm enough to support your weight while the surface should be soft enough for muscle to relax. The best way to tell is to try them before buying. Try sleeping on it for 10-15 mins on your usual sleeping position to see if there is any discomfort or if it’s too soft/hard on any part of your body. Also sit up and down to see if the mattress is strong and hold your weight well or not. If you sink too far or if the surface doesn’t come back up afterwards then that’s not good.

It's not really about making the room feel bigger (for me at least), but making your sleeping space visually clean and cozy. Also it's easier to decorate multiple small separated spaces than it is to decorate a wide open space.

It’s a Kartell Componibili. I’m super obsessed with anything by that brand so I have a bunch of stuff and it’s just quite frankly fantastic. It’s certainly more expensive than the cheapest stuff you can get, but it’s not ludicrously priced since it’s all mostly injection molded plastic.
My 'bedroom' contains a bed, a large closet, a desk with a chair, and that's pretty much everything that can fit into it. And that's the usual average person's bedroom.

Light generally wakes you up a lot. I recommend going to the bathroom without light, and also not looking at clocks. Getting 20 minutes of sleep is better than stressing about only getting 20 minutes of sleep. And sitting on the toilet should make it pretty easy to aim.
and if you really need the visual aid, you can get a low-light nightlight for the bathroom! mine has a very dim one, it's enough to make navigation easy without actually waking you up all the way
