You caught my attention when you said that if you keep changing things you won't get better. I just finished my first indoor 300 league and made the mistake of changing 3 things on my first night (Joel Turner was there and had me change my stance as well as bow hand and he put on a clicker). I shot a 188 that first night which is way below my average. I kept the clicker for awhile to act as a draw check. I went back to shooting with a closed stance . I also found out that shooting in a league is way different than in practice. My high week was a 247. Thanks for getting me to try the 300 league.
I look forward to more videos on this series, keep up the good work Greg.

Dude, i really love how your mil jargon comes out in your vids. It really puts shit in crayola terms for ex mil like me. I really appreciate the time you've spent on your channel. Plus, i agree with your narrow stance. That is how i learned to shoot accurately. Non sibi sed patriae!

Great video. I'm going to try the open stance first then I'll try the square stance. Thanks

Fortunate for the right-handers that you are a left hander. Watching your video is like looking into a mirror, allowing me to imitate your moves easily.

Excellent video! Consistency is the main thing and slowly with practice you find your true stance.

Most of my life I've been a compound bow shooter. I purchased my first Hoyt compound in 1986. I've pretty much just always used a narrower open, but on the verge of being oblique, stance. I'm a successful hunter on uneven PNW terrain, so that probably explains the that. More recently I have gotten into shooting light (40-45#) recurves, and I have found that without even thinking about it, my stance has transitioned to more of a square stance, maybe even slightly closed. I'm not sure why but it seemed to stabilize and clean up my shots so I just do it. I look at it like golfing, there is all sorts of advice, but in the end you have to do what just works.

Great video. Thanks . I have adopted the closed stance. I was always shooting left until I started using the closed stance and that has helped my grouping as well. Great info you put out there. Thanks again.

Thanks for all of your help, your content has help me immensely as a beginner archer. I can hardly wait to get to the range to see which stance fells the best.

this is the most in-depth stance discussion I've seen on RUclips but I do think a lot of Shooters use that close stance like you do Jimmy Blackmon definitely has a fairly close stance maybe it's because he's a military man and if you watched the field World Championship barebow guys on uneven terrain there feet are pretty close together they also seem to dig their toes and keep the weight on the balls of their feet great information great video thanks

In the service, I was on the company rifle team. We had a top shooter come in to help and he had us dig small holes in which we put our feet in so our toes were lower than our heels. He said it was more stable that way. Never thought of it til you mentioned it. Good points, I cannot tell you how much grief I get for my stance.

great vid, I find I switch my stance all the time. usually from square to closed. old time karate guy. I use the closed stance towards the end of a shoot. I find it stabilizes my cord without tensing up my core. I also find I sometime shift my weight heavy to the front leg.But like you said we each find our favorite spots to be.

I just subbed, I'm glad I found your channel. Saw you on 3D as well. I'm pretty much a newbie after a few decades of not touching a bow and even when I did way back it was barely enough to say I even did. I'll be watching this 'Shot Cycle' series a few times. Thanks for taking the time to make these vids!

Great video Mr. Greg sir. I was trying the open stance that KiSik Lee promotes.....not pretty. I don't know why I stopped using a closed stance. It feels comfortable and very stable. See, your video really got me to think about options. Good work.
P.S you forgot that the wide-open reverse stance is called the " anti-Grey". I'm going to fly him over to take you and Jeff on. The 50 meter stump classic. I will caddy for him ( extra limbs and poncho-cape thing). See you in the forest man.

i tilt my head a little bit, but consistent as i use the index feather as a second anchor. i feel the edge of the feather just above my lip. if i tilt more it touches higher or lower, which shows up on 20 yard in where they hit

When shooting outdoors I don't care about my stance, I just try to stand as square to the target as possible. Indoors however I make sure my stance is the same every time. I find that indoors you need to be alot more consistent in form then outdoors

I changed from a squared stance to the oblique stance. Having studied martial arts for quite a few years, I found that it felt more natural. I ended up being more accurate with that than the squared stance - not by a huge amount, but enough

Funny, I find that those who trained in the arts for a decent period of time, seem to have a better sense of what is going on with their bodies.

Archery 101 I found that I was not happy with the stance I was using. The lack of hip movement meant that more effort was required to draw the bow and was energetically wasteful. Changing the hip movement made it less effort. It helps me be less tired

if you hunt moving animals or birds with a shotgun or rifle like rabbits, stance is most important to a god swing, i did martial arts too later on, stance and balance is key. but learn to shoot first, then all else follows, just like throwing a ball and catching it, it becomes second nature to you. greg is right. and at least spend tons of time helping others, who else does that.
