      @@joebillings4812 5 card PLO changes a lot - are you in Hollywood Florida or Maryland area?

    • @Mitjitsu
      @Mitjitsu 6 месяцев назад +5

      The one dynamic that changes about PL5 is the possibility of having a set and a wrap. Redraws become more important. Flopping or turning the nut straight does not automatically mean you should look to get it all in.

    • @ploprofessor
      @ploprofessor  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Mitjitsu well said - and having a dry ace you are now required to bluff as if you had the nuts!

    • @ligafftheindifferent3495
      @ligafftheindifferent3495 6 месяцев назад +2

      Everything gets devalued except top set and the nut flush draws. Wraps with no flush are going to be in rough shape frequently. because your straights will chop the pot a lot more often Hands like underwraps are basically unplayable.. Bottom set is even more treacherous than in PLO. Even middle set is quite a bit weaker. If all you have going is middle set or a nice wrap, your hand is not enough to go to war and should probably fold to strong betting. For these reasons, I would much rather have A9872 with a suited ace than. JT987 double suited. With non nut flushed being weaker and wraps being so easy to wind up splitting the pot, the latter hand, while certainly playable, is not nearly the monster that JT98 double suited is in PLO.
      AA is far less powerful and if it is something like AAJ72 with no nut flush, it is really not a raising hand unless you can get a VERY low SPR. In fact, folding this hand in the face of heavy preflop betting is probably the right move. It will not be unusual to discover that your equity with this hand is not as good as the equity your opponents have. The good thing is that you will usually flop a set or fold, which is why it is OK to see a flop, but you certainly don't want to get involved calling more than one raise unless you can 4-be and isolate one opponent and get an SPR of 1 or less. But if you do play it that way, expect MASSIVE variance due to your small edge. You will also be up against other AAxyz hands a lot more often and with this kind of trashy Aces, you are just spewing your chips by creating huge pots as a 60-40 dog. (or worse) vs a hand like AA987 with 2 suits.
      Generally speaking, I see little reason to bloat the pots in this game. Limping probably becomes a viable strategy with a lot of hands, especially in early position. Same with overlapping. This is not really a "punish the limpers" kind of game. However, if you have a quality hand AND good position, preflop raising and 3-betting is still going to be better than overlapping. But unlike NLH, there is clearly a limping range because very few hands really have a strong equity advantage over the.field.

    I'd be interested in your thoughts on choosing hands as preflop bluff candidates and how to mix those hands into our preflop/third-street/predraw ranges. How does one arrive at a properly mixed strategy in the different games?

    A lesson on tough spots in BigO: when to risk it all vs fold. Example. Multi- way; w flop that has FD, wrap & set possibilities (9c8c3h) when there is a low draw vs. no low (Tc9c3h). How about on turn? How do I think better about these scenarios. How do I plug these into the calculators appropriately?

    Your side cards are definitely relevant especially whether or not you have the As.
    Also almost nobody turns K3 here into a bluff. They hope you missed your draw and check. Even a really good player is targeting specifically the unlikely K10.

      I'm also sure you've seen people who never even semi bluff monster draws. Like they'll check call flop and turn then fold the river here showing AQJx with ace high spades and bitch how they never get there.
