Ever notice ..No one ever says anything bad about Jason Newstead ... a real testament to his character...
Yup
He's got a band going again and he's going to be putting out some stuff soon.
He has the best personality. No malice in him whatsoever. They were indeed needlessly hard on him.
James Hetfield said lots of bad things about Jason when he was wasted
@@leadnsteel1428
My bandmate recorded some tunes at the Echo Brain's drummer (Jason's old band) studio. He sent it to Jason to listen.
My bandmate said Jason liked it. Made his day. I play music with Brian the drummer now and then. Guess that's two degrees from playing with Metallica...😂
It’s sad that they made him leave the band. He was a passionate musician
They picked on him and belittled him until he left...
this is why megadeth is better@@MrTimcrawlin
@@elliott1150 Yeah everyone says Dave is delightful to work for. No one ever leaves Megadeth! 🙃
@@MrTimcrawlinThat Was way early on in his time with the band that only lasted not long after And Justice For All was released.
He stayed with the band for 14 years until he decided to leave because 1. He wanted to focus on Echobrain during Metallica’s downtime (but they were ready to make another album), 2. He physically needed a break from Metallica, he was experiencing pain after years of intense performances, and 3. He was butting heads with James who was a control freak with issues at the time, and they couldn’t quite settle their matters with Jason wanting to focus on another band outside of Metallica.
You do know he can barely play today right? His body can't handle the grueling tour schedule. Metallica made the r right move!
Cliff's family members treated Jason better then the other band members, sad!
You don't understand what Metallica went through with the death of Cliff... Stop listening to grown folks music lil boy
@truthhurts79 I think that Cliffs family welcoming him with open arms should have been the big hint for Metallica to also accept him and not belittle him constantly like they did from 1986 all the to 2003.
@@mackenzieray3493 parents act different than 21 yr olds, with high testosterone, fueled by alcohol... For those who were around when Jason joined the band, we saw Jason as just another bass player, nobody cared about him, if he went or stayed... Only internet Metallica fans sensationalize him
@truthhurts79 that is not a reason to treat someone like shit. Anyone who uses a death as an excuse for shitty behavior is a piece of shit and they're also disgracing the person they lost. Cliff NEVER would've wanted them to act like that. Plain and simple
@@truthhurts79stop making shitty excuses. Your coping hard that Metallica were being pieces of shit. End of story. There is no excuse.
I got to meet them backstage during the AJFA tour Jan 1989 and Kirk ignored me, James was pretty nice but JASON threw his hand out to shake me and my friends hands thanking us for coming to the show..ill never forget that.
Kirk's always been rude and arrogant. First notitced it in the Cliff em' All video where the girl at the radio station was offering them drinks and Kirk pretty much just demanded his drink with no manners or gratitude.
@@Fireglo high ego for a mid player
Both of the examples are 35 & 37 years ago tho, could be isolated + people _do_ change over time, let alone a 3rd of a century later
Even today Kirk seems like a rude dick 😂 but James is nice Robert is nice and Lars is nicer I think
@@Fireglo and dave nailed his girlfriend too!!
Jason is aging better than anyone in metallica. Guy looks more confident and distinguished than he ever has.
But this also an older interview too 🤷🏼♂️ but Jason is still more MetallicA to me than the current version they are now. Justice to Jason🤘🏻
Probably cause he left in all reality.
@@ZackAurand I agree. Those guys were really assholes to him.
And he’s older then them too
He doesn't have kids.
Jason Newsted was not only a member of Metallica he was their biggest fan, he put everything he had into performing 🤘
I miss Jason
His backing vocals on tour were awesome. Really brought a great sound to the band when performing.
@@lancemanyon7645 He added something at live shows that they've been missing ever since he left.
I really like Rob, he is a great musician and he brings a lot to Metallica, but yeah I still miss Jason. Echobrain are a good band. It's great to see Jason being able to express himself more fully as a musician.
Jason’s presence on stage was strong asf
His performances are so sick lol, I love his violent headbanging
He was an extremly good backup vocalist.
Him on Seek & Destroy or Creeping Death is just legendary. Rob can't come close to him, when it comes to backing vocals.
@@supremeghost7950 Kind of funny that Rob is a Grade A super bassist and he's still my least favorite one.
@@UndercoverNormie I never said, that he was a bad Bassist, I just pointed out, that he is not a good backup vocalist. On the Bass, he is grade A, I agree with that, but backing up James vocally isn't his forte unfortunately, and there jason was a beast.
Just listen to S&M I and II and you'll hear the differences.
@@supremeghost7950 I was just making a personal statement
Much respect to Jason!
They welcomed him in with open arms and hugs, then proceeded shit all over him for years. He finally quits the band, then they give Robert $1M for joining.
Rob is a great bassist tho, he deserves it
I am pretty sure Jason is set, being on and touring during the Black Album. I miss Jason though Rob is Awesome, they are treating right because they grew up and realized how they were to Jason.
I've never heard that about when Jason joined.
@@TheRapidDescent. And it was 87 not 03. A million went alot further in 87.
@@raymondlugo9960 neither have I. I can’t imagine they had that much money to give at that time.
Jason was THE guy. He is missed🤘🏻
Always has been my fav Metallica member. Superb bassist and Singer too
A person who only contributed 10 % of music is you're favorite Metallica member???... You come latelys are posers and fake Metallica fans 😂
@@truthhurts79
It could be based on his personality and stage presence, not necessarily how he contributed to the writing.
@truthhurts79
" . . . fake Metallica fans?"
Yeah, sure thing kiddo.
Keep on posing . . .
@@truthhurts79 Jason was the backbone of Metallica and a great stage presence that helped carry them forward in recent years until they simply became $machine. If you don't realize this, you're an ldiot
@@stickiedmin6508 you are a fake Metallica fan if newsted is your favorite,he contributed very little... It also says you're a poser cuz you think Metallica got better after the first 3 classic albums... In other words you don't like Metallica's thrash era
Jason is such an underrated musician. This is a cool story with the Burton family essentially blessing him.
hey
Filling Cliffs shoes was a hard act to follow but Jason did it. He's a cool guy.
When they say you're the One, I felt that
and justice for jason
I don't know how you cannot love this guy!! He is such a an amazing human being!!
Jason, the most underrated and underutilized bassist ever!!
Jason was more metal than the other 3 combined.
No way, Lars is!! Lmao!!! 😂
Bass paler here, a fingering, slapping, tapping and sometimes pic bass player. He was the right person for the band. . Newsted pulled it out of the rest of them. Biggest heart and the most passion out of any said member of Metallica. He was the fire that kept that band alive after they lost not only their bass player/band member but a dear friend. . . Thanks for the historical and amazing shows you put out there with those wild kids man. . Thanks for all you have put into the Metallica machine. . .
Metallistar!!!
Not to mention his vox, hate to say it but preferred it when he sang lead
Hmmm, never heard of a Bass paler before. Lol.
I miss Jason
I was in Hollywood guitar center once and Jason showed up. It was just the two of us in the store that day i was jamming on guitar. This was right after he left Metallica. I didn't want to make him uncomfortable with being star struck as I've watched him growing up 1,000 times as a teenager i just nodded to him in passing and he nodded back.
And that was it 👍.
Jason did a Great job! Big shoes to fill!
Everyone loves Jason. Love bro.
The other members of Metallica really did Jason wrong. They had thier hugest success with him in the lineup. Now they are a glorified oldies act.
Nah, I fell back into Metallica once Rob joined.
Oof, harsh.
Bro they are the biggest metal band in the world, I think they are doing fine.
They always did ex-members wrong, but hindsight is 20/20. If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be any ex-members.
@@daBEAGLE1017 Yeah Rob was the reason I got back into Metallica too, but I've also been a HUGE fan of him since like 90 with Suicidal Tendacies.
We love Jason. Live long and prosper!
Jason was the heart and soul of the band, much like Cliff. He deserves more credit
Jason was always my favorite. Always classy, always positive. Humble as fuck. Hope I can meet him someday.
Loved his energy during their live shows and his backup vocals
All for Jason 🎉
Miss that guy
I was sad when Newsted left but I got happy when I found out the reasons. Wonderful musician, even better performer! 🤘
And how good JASON did. What a badass. Creeping death live.
I'm not a bassist but he's a real inspiration
Idc how many ppl hate me for saying this but ive watched footage of jason doing creeping death and other songs and he got me more pumped than hames. Jason was a beast.
Jason is a legend!
I’m very rarely a typical fan, but Jason got me into Metallica and he’s a great bassist and a very underrated musician. I’m a huge Jason fan
He was a fantastic member of the band - especially for stage presence in live gigs. I’m sad that he was forced out.
That's great that Cliff's family showed support. Jason is the quintessential Metallica bassist.
Always got love for Jason.
Jason is an awesome guy, much respect.
Bass players of the world! Take note of the preparation involved here, the attention to detail. If you want success, be more like Jason.
I love Jason! He always gave it his all!
Jason seems to be such an easy going guy. I get they didn’t know how to manage there feelings at that time but this guy took on a lot and did it surprisingly well for a lot of years.
Jason was, is, and always will be my favorite Metallica member. His vocal performance in Seek and Destroy during Woodstock 99 was lengendary.
He's one of the most passionate musicians I have ever seen. Literally dedicated his whole life to music.
...Jan Burton: (to Jason)......... Please be safe... Such a nice & thoughtful words😍👍👍👍..
Jason - the soul of Metallica
No way you actually think that. Bro brought nothing to the band except for 2 good songs. His backing vocals were so annoying
@@VinCostanza your opinion vs the whole world. Good luck.
After Cliff, I agree.
They did him dirty
I'm glad that although I've seen Megadeth 4x, not once have I been to a Metallica show.
No regrets there!
I saw Flotsam & Jetsam too!
@VinCostanza his backing vocals add such angst live and they work. 2 songs and one of those is 'blackened' one of the best metallica songs..
Jan: We give you our blessing
Lars: Lemme just erase your parts on our next album lol
Yeah that's funny.
Jason is a great dude! His stories are legitimately amazing
His lines on the garage re revisited ep were phenomenal. Was so disappointed in AJFA with no bass
Jason is still my favorite Metallica bass player, he was there during my formative years. First time I saw them was in Seattle about 3 months after Cliff passed.. There was 5 or 6k fans at that show in support of the Master Of Puppets album. Next time they came on there own tour was 3 years later in 1989 for the Justice Tour, they sold out two shows at about 15k fans each so they got much bigger very fast.
I have tickets for this coming summer in Seattle an they're playing two shows at Seahawks Stadium that holds 70k for a football game. Unreal how big they've become.
BTW, I've liked all 3 bass players. Never saw Cliff live though
Met him 3 times. What a good dude. His stage presence was almost scary
Metallica was never the same after Jason left he was a big part of the band. Cliff and Newsted both where on the same level as each other
They were not even close to the same level, sorry
They were both on the same level. Just different styles. Dave Ellefson is also on this level. Please be realistic here. I loved Metallica with Cliff - saw them twice before he was killed. Never liked Metallica after he died, however, Cliff wasn't this super amazing bassist. He WAS the soul of the band, though. Jason was the only logical choice to fill that spot. Rob is just a fill in now. I never felt he fit, but Metallica has fallen into U2 / Rolling Stones territory now, and it doesn't really matter anymore
No, cliff was way better
Lmfao
@@TheJimmyClip Their differences were Cliff was on another level , as a bassist and creator . But Jason brought something special to the band live .. Both of them fit in different ways . Rob to me was never right for that band . Can play the songs technically . But thats all he brings
Jason is great, Robert is great too. It’s just the way it all went down sucks. Hats off to both bass players for putting up with it.
Jason was great
Jason was an amazing bassist and background vocalist for Metallica. Saw him 15 times with him. Went downhill after letting him go.
They didn't let him go; He FOCKING LEFT THE BAND!!!
His solo record was dope. I hope he keeps making new music
I always hear people talk about going to ‘meet and greets’ with Metallica back in the day and the one thing that’s brought up the most is how nice and down to earth Jason always was. Unlike the other guys in the band. It seems like even on his bad days he always made an effort to brighten up someone else’s day and make it incredibly special and worth while.
Man if cliff never died he’s a bass legend
True, but him passing at that stage also kinda MADE him an even bigger legend. Kinda like Hendrix, Morrison, and Janis.
Would Metallica have sold out starting with the Black Album (sure, AJFA also) if Cliff would've lived?
@@daBEAGLE1017shut up
It’s so bittersweet when a legend passes away, cause band members always try to make something good out of it, but you don’t wanna be happy that they’re gone at the same time
It is said Cliff literally forecasted Black album in one of his Last interviews for a Swedish rock magazine in September 1986. Btw Cliff was not only Misfits fan but liked pop too
Jason Newsted é a alma do Metallica 😢
Imagine it has been 20 years in the band and he still have to answer these questions … And he’s still being gentle and patient about it. Great guy
I met him years ago when he first joined METALLICA. He was the NICEST guy in the World
Not sure about Ron but Metallica ALWAYS had killer bass players.
Jason was a huge part of Metallica during the peak of the Metallica empire! Saw them atleast 7 times and he was a force on the microphone and his energy was unmatched! Perfect fit for that time period
We love Jason❤️
Jason should join Megadeth
I don't think Jason would be able to deal with mustaine BS.
What did Jason ever do to you?😮
Megadeath sucks.
totally unfair what they did to him… lost a lot of respect for Metallica after that
They were still young at the time and didn’t know how to channel their emotions. Gotta remember the band members were going through alcohol abuse and didn’t quite give themselves time to mourn after Cliffs passing. It turned into an unhealthy hazing of Jason .
@@ecoreas3878 all excuses. They were all adults , they knew better. They lost a good band mate and team player.
Sane here. I read about these stories when I was a teenager and I never developed a good feeling about Metallica.
Cliff was such an Amazing bassist. .
Long love jason...
I miss jason .. i wish he was back in metallica..
I love this guy!
Jason has given so much to Metallica, awesome member, awesome musician, awesome guy.
AWESOME…LOVE JASON NEWSTED !!!🎸
I was at Jason's audition. I was the bass player to audition right before he did. Under the circumstances of the recent passing of Cliff it was a very surreal experience I will never forget.
A underrated bass player and musician. He was important part of the band, that's why they played with him all that many years. When he say enough, he decided and left the band.
Mad respect to Cliff's family and to Jason!!!!!! RIP Cliff ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He honored Cliff gracefully and played his parts so great.
❤We love u Jason!🎵
Thank u for Your Time!!
You did extremely Well..🙌🏽
Sooo underrated!!!
Jason you are super !!! U doing everything right ! Hug you ,my brother !!
No one ever could have done what Jason did. There is no doubt in my mind that his skill, passion and attitude kept Metallica together.
As a fan since 85, my enthusiasm for Metallica evaporated when jason left.
The best! God bless you idol Jason.
Amazing musician, amazing human.🤘🦖
❤ beautiful person he is
Jason is great, his presence on the stage was brutal
Jason totally looks distinguished and put together. He's an American Badass!!!🇺🇲
I love Jason. The kid who lived his dream. Proof that sometimes it's not good to meet your heros.
Great dude
Jason stepped in and stepped up and the rest is history. 🤘
Dude, Jason is the reason I play bass.
I respect this guy so much ! He made a lot with metallica!he is a heart of metallica! And a very good composer !
Jason is the man. What a great musician and fan friendly dude.
Amazing passing of the torch!
I Fuckin will always forever love Jason . Metal as metal gets .
Jason Newstead is worth his weight in gold. Super nice and humble guy.
Wish he was still in the band. He was great
Jason was pure energy on stage! Miss him
It pays to think ahead! Well played.
Jason was (still is) my fav Metallica bassist.
