I didn't know about mudcrutch either. Thanks to the folks who requested it and thanks, Ryan. I watched the video for this song and sounds like classic Tom Petty. I have the Traveling Wilburys CD from many moons ago... Maybe there's a song in there that I could request, but I don't remember the songs right now.
oh and this band is perfect for you! ;) you should definitely hit me up with some wilburys, believe it or not I'm familiar with them! I had an adult student who was really into them.
Great request, so much fun to discover new music this way. I too had no idea of Mudcrunch, however they’re now in the playlist and for now while I’m few thousand miles from my guitars this will have to do. Thanks for the lesson Ryan.
Thanks again for another great lesson Ryan, and also thanks to whoever helped discover Mudcrutch☮️ I watched a video of Tom at the Filmore,he said this was his favorite Mudcrutch song☺️
RYAN. hi. im glad to found a lesson to this song. im a beginner and very old. but i understand it. you teaching in a good way (of course you need a little knowledge in guitarplaying) and its fun to watch. i know the band name mudcratch but i never listen to it and i dont know that its with tom petty. i listen to this song at the end of a westernmovie and i tought..oh, sounds like tom petty.....ok thanks from germany
7/5/19 Just heard this song for the first time to help me follow what you're doing here. Good song. Typical Tom Petty sound. You said 70% of songs are in the key of the FIRST CHORD YOU PLAY, but the first chord here is Amin, which is relative to C major, BUT THERE'S a D major chord in the song that is not in the C major scale(C Dmin Emin F G Amin Bdim). The chords in this song match the G major scale, which is relative to Emin(6th note of G major scale: G Amin Bmin C D Emin F#dim). So the E minor pentatonic scale fits the chords in this song...... Ryan, I may be getting some free lessons in music and video editing. So far, my videos have no editing. And I don't even do the thumbnail. My thumbnails are automatically done by RUclips at random. So if I'm busy with learning music and video editing, you may or may not hear from me for a while, but I'll be back. Take care, Ryan.
hi. me to. im very old and i listen to this song at the end of the westernmovie Stage couch (san fernando). not the john wayne or the johnny cash/willie nelson version of this movie. and when they play this song, i tought, sounds like tom petty. thats how i came to mudcrutch. g from germany
Some how to my ear the rhythm sounds complicated when you listen to the recording. Its like they don't stay on E minor for the full count before moving to the d chord. Which brings up a point. The way Mike Campbell handles the d chord makes all the difference...rythmicly and what makes this song sound better than average. If you put your pinky where you want and when you want (on the d chord sixth string) will clash the vocals and groove....and will not be able to set things up properly to get back to the verse. "to me" this song has an odd beat that's hard to target and pinpoint what is really going on "rhythmically".
That entire first Mudcrutch album is great
Just watched the movie Appaloosa again. Cool western picture. This song is in the end credits.
