      I saw that too! I'm not sure I would use those recovery points. They need to be lower, more inclined with the mounting bolts. The bumper itself is probably really good, but cut those recovery points off. And that wasn't even a real recovery!

    I think you guys would have much different results in a true recovery scenario where most likely all 4 tires are buried and not just the one. In one shot the vehicle being recovered can be seen moving prior to the rope receiving tension which could aide in the overall feel once the rope became tight. Also the recovery vehicle is also in soft sand with slow momentum which doesn't collect a whole lot of kinetic energy coupled with the bull bar having lots of give. These would all change how the recovery felt. A test of all 4 tires buried and the recovery vehicle on solid ground would definitely bring to light how the ropes react and feel.

    Individual manufactures limits on MBS will effect the "softness". Depending on how close the rated MBS is to actual MBS the feel will vary. I have seen ropes way over rated and they will not spring enough for the vehicle paired to that weight range. Also you will see differences between cheaper Nylon6 vs Nylon66 ropes in terms of lifespan.

  • @explorationcaptured8684
    @explorationcaptured8684 2 года назад +4

    Great video guys, one thing I would mention maybe going forward is how kinetic energy ropes are sized. Knowing the weight of the vehicle you are pulling out and what the breaking strength is important. Most ropes are sized with a 3:1 safety factor, so say your vehicle weighs 7000lbs, you would need something sized up to 21,000lbs so that you will get the stretch you need, sizing is incredibly important. If you choose a strap that is to large and has a higher breaking point, you will find that you don’t get the stretch you need from a kinetic rope and it will act more like a static strap that doesn’t have the give that is needed in a dynamic pull therefore casing damage to the bumper on either the pulling vehicle or the stuck vehicle. Also, like you mentioned, the softer strap/rope can allow dirt and sand to enter the interior of the rope. However, the sheath on your deadman rope is a better option which is harder and more tightly woven, which keeps the dirt and sand out of the interior of the rope. Again, great job guys and thanks for doing this.

    • @andrewmccarthy4144
      @andrewmccarthy4144 Год назад

      Not quite accurate. A rolling pull is not equal to a lift. If there was an easy way to measure the pulling load, I think anyone would be surprised at how light it would be compared to a dead lift.

  • @johnarcher9480
    @johnarcher9480 Год назад +1

    I think, for the money, the Ironman is the best.
    If you can center pull, it’s a 40,000 15’ rope.
    If you need 30 to reach, the 20’ are going to be a problem.
    Throw in the nice storage bag, and the better protection vs the most expensive rope, and I think it is the clear winner.

  • @rogerbonte8272
    @rogerbonte8272 Год назад +1

    20’ vs 30’ obviously depends on your needs for the recovery, but you’ll have much more energy in a 30 foot rope than a 20 foot rope. Maybe a video that separates them by length as well for comparison

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  2 года назад +1

      The kinetic rope /stretch rope has give so you can get a running start at the pull to get velocity behind the rope. Tow straps are static and don’t give at all. If you tried to pull a rig out with a tow strap you have to take all the slack out and pull slow. With the kinetic you want to be moving pretty good when the rope catches. If you tried that with a tow strap you would pull off a bumper with the shock. Hope I explained it okay.

    • @johnarcher9480
      @johnarcher9480 Год назад

      Others have described it well.
      One other thing to remember with a dynamic rope, if something does break, you just made a 20-30’(+ 30%) slingshot.

    Thanks for this review. It would be very helpful if you can compare the uses of kinetic rope vs tow strap vs carrying a winch rope. Situations where you’d use okie out the other. With limited space in my vehicle and no option to add a winch I’d prefer to carry one. Secondly a shout-out of tow straps and winch ropes would be great as well. Keep up the good work!!

    • @anotherplebeian
      @anotherplebeian 2 года назад

      A tow strap is only used for towing, not recovery. And you wouldn't want to use a kinetic rope for towing because it's going to store energy and act like a rubber band. Realistically, you should have one of each at all times but in a pinch you could use either one for either purpose with the realization that you'll likely ruin them and put yourself in an unsafe situation

    @mr.gadgetfishing2134 2 года назад

    A normal rope or strap would have worked in the case you tried. On one or two spots your stuck SUV was moving before the rope was tight because he hit the gas early.
    Why not try this, Hook truck to truck one on hard ground the other soft and apply pressure to see how much stretch and action the rope has? Measure the distance to see. That would tell you how much energy is stored by the amount of stretch. Good one will have several feet of stretch, others a foot or less. You could also do it with a winch and fixed object like a tree, apply pressure and see now much stretch before you start to slide the back axle with brakes locked.

  • @Falcon_Overland
    @Falcon_Overland Год назад +1

    You need to test these where the truck is fully bogged and you need to give it absolutely everything 2-4 times to work out if the ropes any good.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  Год назад

      I don’t necessarily agree with you. I think that if you give a rope a couple good pulls and it handles the weight well and doesn’t show any signs of abuse it should be a solid rope. It is very hard on a rig to be doing the pulling and to be pulled. No need to tear up a vehicle to do that kind of testing just to end up with the same result. I could be wrong though.

    • @AdventureBuilt

      I’m sure the 4Runner just moved forward shifting in the sanding hole it was in and yea it is suppose to have a lot of slack out of the rope. You want to have momentum before the rope catches to use the force to help with recovery. That is why the rope stretches so much.

    Were all of the ropes ⅞”? I hope that everyone knows, when it comes to kinetic ropes and straps, bigger is not better. They should be sized to the vehicle. Too big and it won’t have the proper stretch/kinetic properties.

    Bubba rope, can't go wrong. The flex in that bumper is concerning, the shackle mounts are way too high.

    This is a pretty weak test if you ask me. And you better do something about the bumper on the 4 runner the way it flexes.

    You guys barely hit the ropes. Let me ask you this. Would you hang your vehicle off the side of a mountain with any of those ropes? And also how come you didn’t add Yankam ropes?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 месяца назад

      The pulls felt pretty hard. I hope to never have to hang my rig off a cliff. If that happened I would assume a winch line would be the appropriate tool for that scenario. I didn’t add Yankam only because I just didnt think about them for this video. Definitely could add if I do another test. Thanks.

    Toyota wasn’t even stuck on the very first rope! If you watch the drone angle, it was moving before the rope was even tightened! Come on guys- peoples lives could depend on your reviews, do it right.

      As I have stated multiple times on this topic we try our best to dig the truck for every pull but some holes are offset from the other and settling happens when you take your foot off the brake. The entire process of shooting these pulls takes multiple takes. We do the best we can.

    How can you call durability when you do one test? The most important information is the rope rupture load and you did not test it. The longer the rope, ( in this case 50%) the stress is reduce on the fiber for the same load. This test is only a product promotion done by smiling 🤡.

    Sub $200 some of this overlanding stuff is just stupid such as calling a tow rope kinetic and tripling the price ....I delt with oil field recovery for years and a 200 rope from the farm store will drag a loaded kenworth ...a rope in the range tested should be in the 30-60 buck range

  • @coastalcleaningandmaintena2884

    Pretty weak stuck job tho. Need a weight meter to show how much it's pulling. A regular nylon rope woulda pulled that lil suv

    This has to be laziest attempt at a test I've ever seen. A riding lawnmower coulda almost pulled out that vehicle with ONE WHEEL stuck 🤦‍♂️ .. Once it was even moving on its own b4 the rope was even tight. If you're gonna do something, then do it right. 20 minutes wasted.

    If you are going to do a review on recovery at least get the vehicle actually STUCK first. Like someone else noticed the "stuck" vehicle started moving befoore the rope got tight. I gave you a thumbs down for that reason.

      Honestly we did the very best we could to get Trevor’s 4Runner really stuck. It doesn’t always work out. The sand we have out here has the finest amount of pebble in it which makes it pack really well. The testing was to see if the kinetic ropes could pull the weight of the vehicle with the shock load to be able to get them out of a hole. Being literally stuck is a bit inconsequential to the function of the kinetic ropes. I’m sorry you didn’t feel that it was up to your standard of testing.
