Hi there! I apologize for my hiatus, but nevertheless I am here. This is a long anticipated video I was hoping you would get to. I have followed Luciano for quite a long time, ever since 1990. I watched him on a PBS channel (when there was real tv in the states) during that year and it was called The Three Tenors. The three greatest tenors sung various arias from different operas and were accompanied by a great orchestra. Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. This was really a battle between the first two and really a showcase for, you guessed it, Pavarotti. I didn't take up Italian, but I understood the music because the expressions of playing it is usually in Italian. Anyway, the concert was in Rome. This song was sung towards the end after Placido's stunner. It really was left up to this song for Pavarotti to pull this out...and he did. But, to understand the high stakes in this is to listen to the songs sung back to back in order on that night. Beautiful AND cultured? My, my, you do surprise. I remember singing in choir and being asked to try to emulate his range. Unfortunately, that's impossible! Such was further complicated by the fact I was a bass - even in my teens. As I grew, I became a basso profundo and oktavist. So I was only given those parts and never ascended to do anything beyond enjoy listening to him perform.
