Yeah, I've been grinding the lab until beefy up-b is consistent. Depending on Distance to ledge, (I haven't counted actual frames) it feels like it can be anywhere from frame perfect to MAYBE a 6-frame window
If that is true, up-B snaps to ledge a lot faster than it hits opponents. According to my notes, it hits opponents anywhere from frame 12-18 when used in the air. It might be able to hit on 11, but if it can the hitbox is so specific and close ranged it won't matter in practice

Byleth has another unique feature about the neutral B cancel. If you jump and hit B then hit jump just as you are landing, you will cancel the jump cancel, allowing you to immediately take any action.
Down b’s armor triggers half way through the move. And unlike warlock punch keeps it in the air. So it can be used as a rare call out for laggy kill aerials like a bowser bair while in disadvantage.
It has no air armor, actually- Normally the armor starts and ends with Byleth's swing, yet Byleth can be struck out of the swing animation in air, or even trade.
CrazyDolphin I used it mid air against chroms recovery in training and I tanked it. Granted I missed but I deliberately started it in the air to test it.

@@Bylethisop I feel like they've started to hate Byleth slightly less and I do pretty well against them with Byleth but that's mostly because I just play Smash Bros more than them rather then me playing with him well
I knew this video would be here soon. Very informative as always! Fun fact with Byleth: the Down Special axe, if used right at the ledge, actually swings down under the ledge since there's no ground to stop it, allowing for two-frames. Very hard to time, but very satisfying if pulled off.
Somewhere around 100% (depending on the enemy's weight), Up-B to Side-B becomes a true kill combo for some fighters. I've picked up a lot of KOs even online like that. Most times, DIing away from Byleth makes this combo even deadlier, because you'll just bounce off the stage, reach Byleth's hight and you'll just be met with Aredbhar's sweetspot, launching you right into the top blast zone.
The down b can also be turned around and fall through platforms. It also has armor and instant breaks shields. It kills around 35%. If you juggle opponents onto a platform and they have no jump, it becomes easy to use as when opponents land. They will either tech the ground or land. The move along with side b go through the platforms so it normally results in a broken shield or a panic roll. The move is too dangerous to punish under these circumstances usually. Also the fair and bair cancel fast enough to do a f tilt or jabs to make incorrect spacing the attack safer. Go for tech chases. All her options are better for it. Her side b also pushes her backwards a little in the air so you can actually go a bit further out off stage or for a safe recovery on an opponent waiting to chase from a platform. Ps Her side b can be long or short. The tip seems to have a sweetspot. But I can't control the distance. Seems a smash gets distance and a tilt gets less, but both are wrong half the time on the ground.
So I used to play a lot a few years ago but I haven’t played in a very long time and just recently bought a switch, do you have or could you make a video like this for this character but for beginners, I’m still trying to get used to all of the different moves and how to evade properly. Great video I just don’t get a lot of the references
Thanks for taking the time to learn the character you make a guide on, it really shows. If you made guides for Captain Falcon, Ryu, Mega Man, Little Mac and Mii Brawler, that would be pretty cool.
1)Forward air, back air, neutrail air, down tilt, up Special when they jump 2) Down tilt + Up B, Neutral B when afar, Side Special on edges and when returning Dont mind me, just noting these here as I am training a Byleth amiibo to use as a sparring.
@@Naruyami4 Oh lol! sorry I misread that, it's pretty late ocer here. (Also I totally agree with the art whenever I see Izaw posting that art I cry because of my poor.
This is a really good guide for Byleth! I wanted to understand her because of her big normals, but I didn't think she's for me partly because her air mobility is bad. I wasn't sure how to use her neutral B in neutral, but it's because I forgot that the the weak shot can be cancelled with the jump or shield options. It's also good for tech chasing! Thanks again for this guide, I wouldn't have known how to play her better otherwise! ^^
Neutral B is also decent for edge guarding. Opponents who fail to respect it (or notice it) will often be ko'd, and those who do react often waste their dodge or are made to fast fall, limiting their recovery options or even potentially gimping them in a "lose-lose" situation. Sometimes this will even work if you slightly mis-time the shot to where it would miss regardless, though this has more to do with people just not being familiar with Byleth over an actual strength.
But anyone with an analytical mind can detect a lot of Byleth's strengths and weaknesses. It isn't the most optimal way to play Byleth, but optimization takes time.
Is there some specific input for the instant wall jump like in 13:12? Every time I've tried it it just snaps the ledge, and holding down, goes through it. I've seen people do it consistently in videos but haven't been able to find info on it. I'd really appreciate any info on this.
I learnt that Abby Trott, the voice actress for Annette from 3 houses, sung lifelight. I guess 3 houses in a way got some representation before Byleth.

I aint playing smash until he makes an art of Ridley video
Ps
Her side b can be long or short. The tip seems to have a sweetspot. But I can't control the distance. Seems a smash gets distance and a tilt gets less, but both are wrong half the time on the ground.
Byleth is the only reason I come back to smash from time to time
This is by far the best Byleth guide!
Excellent video as always!
Nice to see you back on the grind bro👍🙏
Hands down the best video guide I've seen. Everyone else is just like "here are the frames, kthxbye"
So I used to play a lot a few years ago but I haven’t played in a very long time and just recently bought a switch, do you have or could you make a video like this for this character but for beginners, I’m still trying to get used to all of the different moves and how to evade properly. Great video I just don’t get a lot of the references
I found your videos explaining the basics so nvm hahah 😅
Thanks for taking the time to learn the character you make a guide on, it really shows. If you made guides for Captain Falcon, Ryu, Mega Man, Little Mac and Mii Brawler, that would be pretty cool.
It's actually super easy, you see you hold the left stick down then press the B button. That's it you've mastered the character.
Dude those are so awesome !!!
1)Forward air, back air, neutrail air, down tilt, up Special when they jump
2) Down tilt + Up B, Neutral B when afar, Side Special on edges and when returning
Dont mind me, just noting these here as I am training a Byleth amiibo to use as a sparring.
Works noice. Thanks for posting this. It improved my Byleth gameplay alot.
you just have the best tutorials in the game !
Keep going ;)
Your the only guy who gets straight to the point and tells us everything about byleth
Thanks izaw appreciate you brotha, looking forward to adding some of that art to my wall
Watching you makes me fell like I'm bad at smash because ur so good...........oh wait I am
BRO YOUR ART SKILLS ARE SO GOOD GODDAMN
this isn't even art of; this is just him talking about current Byleth meta
@@JJSquirtle no i meant in the beginning of the video. He has art for sale. That shit looks dope af
@@Naruyami4 Oh lol! sorry I misread that, it's pretty late ocer here. (Also I totally agree with the art whenever I see Izaw posting that art I cry because of my poor.
😂😂😂 i love it how he snipped my jump with dedede 😂😂
14:43 SICKKKKKK.
it's good to have u back
any chance we can get "art of Greninja"? he's such a cool character that not enough people play/give credit to
This is a very good guide! Thanks for the effort.
My favourite teacher, my sensei. Thank you Sakurai!!!
Byletj just came out. There’s no way to know how to play byleth the most optimal way yet.
*me who understands all of this but is unable to do this*
Hands can't listen to brain
Guy: Hey, are you Jared?
Izaw: No.
7:00 you actually don’t have to fast fall or have DK airdodge, if you move nair away while you’re using it you can do up b again right away
Totally loved this just wanted to say that if you shorthop side b and space properly it'll hit below the ledge!
A Game and Watch guide would be awesome because he is finally getting recognized for how good he is.
Only Izaw can make you want to main everyone in the game at the same time
Been "maining" byleth for 3 days now, this helped so much, I'm ready for mkleo.
I learnt that Abby Trott, the voice actress for Annette from 3 houses, sung lifelight. I guess 3 houses in a way got some representation before Byleth.
Finally! An actual useful Byleth video! Thanks Bro!
Wow that combo at the end was sick
Edgeguard is my favourite house leader
When you have drift on your joycons so it makes it difficult to control what moves you’re trying to do. (I don’t have a pro controller lol)
Side B can hit the sweetspot on ledge hangers but you have to land with the aerial version onstage
eh, pretty niche but definitely noce to know. If I'm in the air and they stalling ledge I'm prob going for nair; or dair if I'm feeling Spicy.
I watch this as if I'll ever get remotely close to the bar you set lol. Your amazing, especially so soon after they were released!
Title: how to byleth
Music: Persona 5
Me: I approve
Bro the biggest mix up you can do with failnaught is canceling or shooting normal arrows all game and then fully charging last stock
I just spam down b. 50% of the time it works every time
Thank you for this video! Thanks for your time and your work :)
Can we get an "Art of ____" video on Snake next? Love the videos!
Videos of art are perfect as every time bro.....so thank for all the effort do you put in there......i hope to see ganon the king of the disrespect soon here jajajaja
Thank you so much. I really don’t know and do not have a way how to thank you for this amazing work. Your really awesome. Thank you so much again 🙏🏻
Once again, you do great work. I liked byleth from the time she came out. She to me is a great character to learn reading an opponent as she must commit to every move she makes
