Some may call Sephiroth a sword character, but I see him as more of a snap character.

Never pressed a YT notification faster. I beat and loved FF7 as a child, Ultimate is my first real Smash game that I’ve put energy into getting good at (I played N64 version as a kid) and my main has been bottom-tier Ganondorf since launch. Sephiroth feels like he was built for my exact playstyle and this guide just became my bible for the next few weeks. Thanks so much for putting this together! Committing to Sephiroth as my new main has revitalized my interest in the game 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The percents his wing appear are exact. Training mode isn't reliable.
The counter seems to act like a projectile, I blocked it with young link’s shield
I've also noticed in a few random matches against AI that if Sephiroth uses a fully-charged Shadow Flare against someone who can reflect, he gets his with *five* flares instead of three.
On Christmas eve izaw gives us a guide on giving despair.

Great vid, thanks so much for making it! One small note on Sephiroth's Shadow Flares, only the last orb hit will always send your opponent away. The earlier orb hits work different. They send the opponent in the opposite direction of where they were facing when hit with the original application of the move. At low percents it doesn't matter because they don't have much knockback, but at high percents it can make the difference between a kill or not. Niche info but could come in handy at high percents.
I've always played Smash casually. Competitively I'm more into your standard 2D fighters. So Smash always seemed alien to me. This video was a big help in getting me to see and understand how to apply fighting game terms into smash. These videos are appreciated! Thank you!

I have been maining Sephiroth in Smash for about a year now. Recently, I made it into my high school's Smash Bros. team. So, I've been starting to get really serious about it. There's a lot of pressure on me for being the only female on my team, and my scores have been fluctuating a lot. These tips are really going to up my gameplay, but I still need to train and study more. No matter what kind of score I end up with, I'll just be glad I made it that far with Sephiroth. 🙌🖤 I am going to use a LOT more of my neutrals now since seeing this video. 😆 Can't rely on those specials TOO much. Ah yes, my favorite character: Meta Cloud. Or, Cloud Knight if you prefer.
After playing him for like several days, I wanted to see this just to make sure I was correct in my playstyle, Almost got the homie to elite smash, lets go bois. I also wanted to see the aerial combos because i have only used fair as a spacer and not a combo tool

in a seph ditto, you can just use side-b to easily get rid of flare (neutral-B)
Like in mu's with characters that have projectiles, shadow flare can get rid of those pesky projectiles
It can even clang with normal attacks so it may save you

I figured out early on octoslash was op and that if you b-reverse it while recovering, you send them to the other side
You can do edgeguards the same way too since it just covers so much space

My opinion on mains of this guy:
"Other sword fighters are too weak, so he used the guy with the big sword and can snap a bunch of times to kill you.

This is literally the best Christmas present i could have asked for ! I absolutley adore Sephiroth he is a better "Marth with Magic" than anything Robin promised to be (i still think Robin is cool tho)

3:48 I'm slightly high, but if I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure Lucas can just go under it like most counters
Fun facts: megaflare's actual explosion bypasses reflectors. Haven't tested whether it bypasses absorbing moves.
Sephiroth's counter also can be reflected. So if he uses his counter on moves like Ness's fsmash, not only will it not hit Ness, but it'll end up backfiring on Sephiroth, ultimately killing him.

3:20 the "c" is silent
There's another flaw or two of Sephiroth, and that's the fact he is tall and a fast faller, so he's huge combo food for characters like Falcon, Greninja, Joker, etc. Combine that with his light weight and lack of good OOS options, and rushdown combo characters can keep him in disadvantage for a long time.
My friend that I play alot mains joker and greninja. I've been trying to learn sephiroth against that and it fucking suuuuuuuuucks. You nailed it on the head, I get combo'd from 0 to 45 every stock and have to work my way past a terrible start to win

So what do you do against people that rush you down and don't give you time to space yourself or allow you to do the approaching? I feel like I'm stuck shielding way too much as Sephiroth when someone rushes me down since he doesn't have good out of shield options.
I don't know how much it matters, but there IS a gap between the shield phase and attack phase of Scintilla that you can hit him through.

I might challenge the not being able to cancel flare with projectiles part. At least with Lucario I've noticed that aura sphere can cause normal flare to detonate early and it passes through to hit Sephiroth.

On sephs counter there is a window in which you can hit him right after the counter is active and right before the attack comes out
And for his neutral special he weilds a flare

Footstool to dair is a great idea. I guess there’s buffered OoS z-airdodge into wavedash for distance, and something like fair or dtilt.

Man cloud needs buffs. Cloud doesn't even feel like a character anymore. Knock him offstage and he is dead. Nair can be challenged by almost any move so nair does not work, limit is so bad now, his grab is abyssmal, and you can SDI climhazard and punish him afterwards so up b out of shield is not a real OOS option. The best you have is upsmash cause nair won't protect you at all. Cloud limit is so bad you won't die at 80 to limit crosslash midstage and it only last 15 seconds. Playing cloud is depression in ultimate. :(
Spargo says hi. Cloud is solid, easy high tier. If you like the character, then focus more on how you can improve your play than on how "bad" your main is.
@@karapatotes Spargo hasn't really gotten noticable results offline. Cloud is overrated right now cause of online. He sucks. Improving play won't make these issues bearable. Cloud is that bad. So as a result i don't play him usually unless final smashes are on or its a free for all.
Wdym?! Cloud is really good, a solid high tier for sure. If you suck with cloud, thats your problem

I picture Izaw's videos like the character videos in Fantasy Strike.
I might play Ultimate as much anymore, but I'm really amazed by the balancing in this game compared to Smash 4. None of the DLC characters feel *blatantly* overpowered, despite having some incredible strengths. But all of them have specific weaknesses that can be exploited, such as Sephiroth's struggle with rushdown characters that manage to get in.

Sonic is the 3rd party franchise to need another representative. There are 3 possible characters to become fighters: Shadow, Tails, Dr. Eggman. In my opinion it should be Shadow to break the (-) stigma on Sonic as campy & annoying playstyle. To also break the mold of having TWO spin dashes (just why did they do this?).
We see a patern in Fighters Pass 2, that the characters are from the same company from Fighter Pass 1. We have Nintendo with Byleth & Min Min. We have Microsoft with Banjo & Steve. We have Squire Enix with Hero & Sepiroth. Now we three slots left. So far the two other companies Altus & SNK & third slot for fan favorite.
Joker from Persona franchise which is owned by Altus franchise which is also owned by Sega. So Sega can add another Sonic representative in Smash.
Shadow can be added in a way that Sakurai tells us the Assist Trophy Shadow is a "Shadow Android" & gives the possibility for the real Shadow to be playable. I think Shadow should be the one to break the Assist Trophy "fan rule".
Shadow can be sort of a mix between Sonic & Mewtwo with a hint of EDGE to the hog. A character who is nearly as fast as Sonic with Chaos powers that can teleport, throw projectiles, can even create a huge explosion (Chaos Blast). This time Sakurai needs to bring moveset from SONIC BATTLE to Shadow's moveset. Make people appreciate the Sonic Franchise.
Not to mention that Sonic's 30th anniversary is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate than to bring in "The ULTIMATE LIFEFORM" in Smash Ultimate.

I only recently learned how to do nair and orb combos consistently
One thing that is really good (that does need practice) is octaslash offstage and living
Roll or full hop twice towards ledge and octaslash down. Most the time you'll live but that's why you should get used to it so you always live
sliding up tilt is something I'm using a lot more and it can be good because it's usually noncommittal. It is very difficult to master but I think it has potential to catch people off guard and kill at 70 if you hit the sweetspot

b revers neutral b cancel stuff wins me almost all games with this character. He is crazy broken but only if u actually hit ur opponent lol. Many moves are avoidable and have long end lag. He relies on reads and especially on conditioning. I promise u... if u land with neutral b, charge to second projectile, cancel .... you will almost always be able to get a hard punish in cause people panic, mostly jumping. You need to have a very good neutral to be good and have fun with this character. I like him because u either completly destroy or get completly destroyed, thats how I like smash.
You forgot to mention Sephiroth's zero to death combo he gets when he breaks someone's shield
