Now this is what i am expecting when i want to see a smash guide. On the point, objective, structured, well recorded, no time wasted, supporting visuals, in depth explaination and covering all variations. You sir, make great smash guides and are way better than a lot of other crap out here that calls itself guide.
Thank you!
Love your voice btw. Great for your videos.
I’m surprised this doesn’t have any comments, definitely true it was a great smash guide
Agreed. Too many people try to fill their videos with unfunny jokes and stupid memes and cutaways. There's a time and a place for that kind of thing, but a serious character guide isn't one of them.
@@slushiewr5989 wdym? your comment is here
Highly agree. IzAw's character videos are almost as interesting as a good mini-documentary.
Hero has some wild properties like the F-tilt!
Thank you for the calm and rational look at this. Kinda sick of the whole, “HE’S BROKEN. BAN HIM.” or, “HE’S COMPLETELY GARBAGE LMAO”. Would like to mention that up-throw to nair seems to work at the same percentages as up-throw u-air.
Zero lolololol
Exactly. It's obnoxious and dumb
Well said Pj I was thinking the same thing.
But he is broken 🤷🏾♂️
dregz mcgee Um I’d like to counter with, get good and sit down. It’s been less than a week. He’s really good off the bat but let’s see how long that lasts. So far, nothing he has shown is as bad as Sm4sh Bayo or Brawl Meta Knight.
The spell cost for Swoosh was accidentally edited over by the KaSwoosh cost. Swoosh costs 9 MP
cheers
@@e.miller5419 Yep!
He's slow and clunky, somewhat luck based, with bits of cool stuff mixed in. Just like the JRPGs he inspired! xD
That and he's fun. This man made the genre basically, the grandfather of RPGs tho he looks damn good for his age lol.
He’s not luck based you just need to play him
@@elizabethhenrichsen7121 "Somewhat luck based" only in the sense of critical smash attacks and the spell menu giving you a random assortment. And that's not a bad thing, I like playing him!
@@elizabethhenrichsen7121 aaaah yes, because having random crits isn't luck based,
@@hackman4351lol get better luck
This guide actually made me realize the key weaknesses of hero:
-low combo potential
-sluggish attacks
-easy to punish if they whiff or during some other circumstances like kaklang and recovery
-basically all attacks can be shielded (especially spells thank god)
-rng can be a blessing BUT ALSO curse
If he has an attack boost and you block. You are gonna get punished hard
@@mtsmashgamer0759 That only applies to physical hits in fairly specific circumstances.
Aleksi Juhola it's only a curse if you use hocus pocus or an accidental kamikaze.
And not only that, his strongest tools (his spells), not only some of them are luck based, but if you spam them too much, you’ll be out of MP in no time and left even more vulnerable.
@@charliedmh84 Then Pro Hero players will just optimize that stuff. :P
If you can make people good at using RNG, then you are truly the master teacher
I’d say.
rng manipulation
Indded! I wouldn't have thought about that the same spell doesn't appear twice! XD
To answer that, we’ll have to talk about scuttlebug manipulation.
v.i.pfighter it doesn't take a genius to learn hero tho. He has a lot of different possible options that are all interchangeable in certain situations, and not getting one particular move doesn't mean you lose the game, except if you're fishing for zoom, but that's it. Fishing for thwack? Krackle slash or flame slash works too. Fishing for sizzle? Kaboom or snooze work too. Sizz and bang don't kill but they hit ppl off stage so that means edgeguard. Or just save your fully charged neutral b and use that. Hero has other possibilities to make up for not getting what you might want, because what you want, you don't always need that one thing. Other than that, he has fast moves, good projectiles, great ledge trapping, and a shield so not broken but not carried by rng. He gets in disadvantage when he runs out of mana, which is only a little worse than losing ink. Basically inkling with but projectile heavy and with a sword.
This is the best early hero guide, you went over more stuff than all the other guides, while keeping it short and concise. Great job :)
Finally someone who knows what he's talking about.
Great video, genuinely. Its nice to see a smash channel put effort into a video while not trying to bait clicks with the whole "sO brOKEN" bit. thanks homie
5:27 Oh! In French they're litterally just called *'Kill'* and *_'Super Kill'_*
It's more simple
In italian they are called "insta-death" and "more in one hit"
No idea what they had in mind for the latter...
@@brunobuzzatti1134 judging by this, it seems unlikely...
Oh and thanks for the compliment!
I see that Izaw watched a certain person "go back to the lab again" - im so glad u showed how good kaswoosh actually is for edgeguarding! Thanks for the vid!
There's something you forgot to mention Izaw and I think is VERY useful for those fighting Hero, if you get snoozed in air you can mash out of it faster than getting snoozed on ground (to give you an idea how fast, you can mash out of mid-air snooze in a matter of 1 second at 120%). However, nice video, learned some things about hero myself a lot here! (gotta love the Herocord members on the credits btw XD)
.. up. J
Something to note is that even without MP, Zap and Zapple still have a very weak sword hitbox with the zap one an upward arc from below and zapple a downward arc from above. They won’t combo or do anything good really, but hey it’s pretty cool
Only 12 minutes?
👀
Well i guess he's less of a combo heavy character.
Edit: Well, I already learned a bunch in this cram pack for Hero...especially how to deal with some stuff.
8:39 "Unless you get accelerate and *O O M P H* before you hit the neutral air...."
Yeah I really like that Oomph!
@@RadiaUmbra Gives Hero a bit more O o m p h
Everyone: OMG HERO IS SO BROKEN
IzAw: Hold my potion
This guy makes smash so much easier to understand thx ❤️
I love how Hero's RPG mechanics are implemented. I'll gladly make peace with Sora not getting in and pick him up, even if I know nothing about Dragon Quest.
Also, Arusu (DQ3 Hero) is my favorite one for two reasons:
1) Voiced by OoT Link
2) Has a cape
-3) Looks like Goku-
Ryuken You should play Dragon Quest III! It’s a phenomenal game!
Good thing sora isnt in the game
Sora in the game now😳
@@hectorborrero4672 get fucked shitlips he is in the game now
Sora's in now!
Also, he looks like Gohan, not Goku
Metal Slash also works against frozen opponents, meaning you can two-hit KO someone if you get Kacrackle Slash into Metal Slash or play teams with a partner who can freeze (like Lucas or Ice Clibers).
Edit: Nvm, I'm stupid.
What?!
this is just not true
No it doesn't :P
@@IzAw Ok just went to training to test it and you're right. I thought I did this in classic mode but I must have misinputed and cast Whack instead.
@@Greenomb RNG gets the best of us.
Thx for the great Content as always Izaw you always inspire me to play characters i didnt think i would play or help me improve my characters. Your Link is the one i’ve really tried to become. So keep the work up and thank you for being an amazing person!
Less than a couple days and we have a guide from Izaw himself
*(IzawSmash Uploads)*
IzawSmash: Welcome to how to pla-
Me: Wait!... now... did you know You're a Hero yourself for uploading this correct?
god i was going to lose my mind if izaw did an art of hero in one day
I've actually found that at 0% to 15%, down tilt can combo into a buffered forward air and can chain into another downtilt that may be followed up by a long range spell.
Love how reliable you are!! Liked and subscribed
Best Hero How-To so far, and it's not even close. Always love your vids, Izaw.
Something I haven’t seen anyone talk about yet is that fully charged side b can cover neutral get up, get up attack, roll, and staying on the ledge if spaced right and is more consistent than magic burst.
Great guide! Thank you for taking the time to make such a quality production
So concise and clear, love what you do Izaw
People complain about him being busted while I'm waiting for someone to use him to his fullest capabilities. Great video Izaw, it's such a nice change of pace to hear an actual good analysis of this character (well besides Larry Lurr's and M2K's which were nice.).
11:47 never thought i would see the day where i am genuinely happy to see someone being killed by a bayonetta combo.
Well fuck you too.
God, I love Hero. I love Dragon Quest, and the way he plays is absolutely perfect for me. While this is still a guide released in the first few days, it’s still the best in my opinion. Thank you!
Video still giving value till this day!🙏🏽thank you g
As a Hero main, I play him because he has a jackpot wheel slapped onto a single input. He's bottom tier? Magic burst. He has little combos? Magic burst. He's slow and clunky? Magic burst. My wife's staying at her mother's house for a bit? Magic burst
i believe down throw to fully charged neutral b works it catches air dodges
I’ve been waiting for this!
This was one of the best analysis that I've seen so far on him. Awesome job seems as if you understand the character without saying everything in him is broken.
Magic burst covers all ledge options, But if they sit right at Ledge you can still get up attack
I think if you have enough mp you can stand out of range of get up attack
@@thewizward8471 I know but not everyone does, Their right on ledge Maybe I am, But my opponents still do neutral getup or roll
Also magic burst doesn’t clank with projectiles, so you can make magic burst go away and have hero lose all his mp for nothing if you hit him with say a falco laser or something.
I love this channel, thank you for making me a better player over the years
Best guide by far. No one else I saw talked about the downsides of the buff moves
Great video, concise and packed with useful information. Thanks!
Thank you, someone finally mentioned down throw forward air as a combo.
I feel like not enough people know this:
YOU DO NOT NEED TO PUT UP YOUR SHIELD TO CANCEL MENU.
Pressing shield super briefly is enough and if you know this you can do grounded moves and even grab ALMOST IMMEDIATELY out of menu. This does not work in the air though as you will still dodge no matter how briefly you press the shield button.
Aw man, watching this guide is a joy with all that whimsical DQ music on the background.
How to play hero well:
Step 1: Get good rng
Step 2: Get good rng
Step 3: get good rng
Step 4 (not necessary): try to actually use interesting tech
Also the video was awesome as always
Maybe on wifi, but actually good players will be able to consistently outplay Hero players. Rushdown characters like Fox and Roy will ruin his day, everyday.
You never cease to give optimal guides. Thank you for all that you do!
Great work as always! I could suggest adding the MP consumption for the down specials :)
Well that was fast. And as always amazing work. :) thank you for your hard work.
He’s like a viable robin lol
NapalmBomb kinda wish Robin was viable too. All her good stuff depletes way too fast especially when you count in everytime she whiffs something that isn't a grab. They need to give her better speed, some grab combos to reliably use levin sword and specials which she might already have but she should have enough to not have to try all the time. The books are fine but levin sword should either deplete less when whiffing or at least have throws that lead into it pretty consistently. I'm also really confused as to why she switches back to bronze despite still having levin meter; cut that shit out. Give me levin sword when I want levin sword.
I was thinking that too
When the most serious, professional SmashTuber uploads the silliest character in the game.
Thanks to this video im good at playing with hero. Your the only who makes good guides on how to make tactics, combos, distance and etc because thanks to this guide im ver good with hero. He also told us the advantages and disadvantages for the attacks and projectiles and showed us all the moves with down B.
How to play Hero:
Just pray for Magic Burst lmao
You can also roll out of down-b by taping shield and holding left/right, basically canceling the shield into a roll.
Apparently at 20% you can combo nair into turnaround upair, upair, nair since nair starts at the top behind him.
Thanks for the video!!
I think my all time favorite moment when I was playing as hero was when I was doing a 1v1v1 with some friends; one of them was playing ice climber and the other I think was joker but I can’t remember now
I used thwack and instant killed both of them; even the main icy, but the best part was the icy was at 0 damage
I didn’t even know it was possible to ko with thwack/wack before 40
I was gunna type a needless criticism about how it's only be 48 hours and any guide on hero is about as deep as a kiddy pool at this point but instead imma remeber that I'm not the only person on the planet and other people probably havnt heard this info yet. Keep up the good work my guy.
From what I’ve seen, Specials do get effected by Oomph. Up B is completely unaffected but Neutral and Side B change slightly.
Oomph affects the level 3 zap, I've seen it myself. Regular deals about 45-ish%, Oomph-boosted brings it just barely above 60% with the full move.
Oomph can also set up for a shield-break with Kazap if the opponent's shield has a bit of damage.
That’s an easy answer Izaw, just download the Fighters Pass or Challenger Pack 2. :)
Description: How to play Joker
Lmao
I dont see it... eh maybe he changed it.
*How to Slay Joker*
Thanks for this guide. I can finally play him and learn to get around him.
Who else mistook ‘how to’
For ‘Art of’
I found that falling nair combos into short hop side b (uncharged). The combo counter may have been glitching because nair into the first hit of side b was counted, but then the second apparently didn’t combo. Pretty sure it’s just a bug with the counter on the last hit. Anyways, combo works around 0-50%.
Regardless of the order on my feed, it's Izaw's video first. Thank you for the breakdown.
7:14 imagine seeing this in the last Grand Finals Match of EVO
Lol
@@brunobuzzatti1134 Bitch please. XD
Give this man a Mini Medal for going into depth about Hero's Pros and Cons rather than yelling "BrOkEn" over a select few RNG elements.
Izaw always has the best quality tutorials. Thanks izaw ^.^
Around 20% or 24, down throw to full hop to up air can combo with up air
I swear I'm trying to listen, but all I'm hearing is that MUSIC 🤩
Thank you Izaw, not jusy for the vid but for the random clips thrown about too
Didnt see it mentioned in the guide, but swoosh actually moves downward when in the air.
Can't wait for the Art of Hero Video
Really good info nice job
Thanks again for your expertise, and your calm and rational point of view, it's always good to watch someone who doesn't cry because "LMAO BROKEN BROKEN BROKEN BAN HIM". Your content is really welcome to the Smash community, keep on the amazing work!
Another early percent combo you can do is down throw to up tilt
Damn this was hella information, thanks
Btw up b out of shield is an amazing oos option, also his side b is affected b oomph unlike what he said in the vid
A very precise guide that really fits with your calm tone compared to people who just don't realize hero's weakness.
So kinda like Joker then....
You know top tiers also have weaknesses right?
Also, Psyche Up only powers up your next melee attack. All projectiles are unaffected.
Really good video, my dude. This character is insane. lol
Great vid Izaw
Heroes second form tornado also shoots downward a small distance unlike the first and third form.
Im late I know but zoom has a cool feature where if your offstage u have a greater chance of getting zoom,by the blast zone ur gonna get zoom easily alot
I don’t know what it’s is about it but i really like the down throw side air combo
I love playing Hero, and now I can point to something that rationalizes my reason for liking him
one thing to be noted: if you're on the ground when getting kamikazee'd you can just tech the explosion on the ground..
Magic burst is literally heat dome attack (the attack Trunks used to kill Cell).
I would also like to mention all spells beside magic burst, kamikaze and hocus pocus it seems that every spell will come back into your down b within 2-6 cycles.
This is an old video, but I just want to thank you because I've gotten way better after seeing this
I have a lot of fun with this character, I use Erdrick a lot out of the 4 versions
This is like the sakurai presentation but much more in-depth
Making a Ridley guide would be sick, especially after his buffs
Looks so fun!
Don't know if this is useful to anyone, but down throw combos into reversed up tilt at 0 from what I tested. Not sure often how that will happen, but its a think worth mentioning. Also, falling up air can combo into some stuff too like forward air at low to mid percents and kafrizz at extremely low percents. If this information is incorrect feel free to comment and I'll fix it.
Despite being a fan of the OG Dragon Warrior games, I don't really play Hero in Ultimate. But I do feel they did a very good job of translating him into Smash.
The whoosh moves always sends opponents the opposite direction you were facing when you start the move
Hero combines Link, Lukas and Ness. The new monster is born.
You forgot some things. All three levels of Woosh send opponents in the opposite direction Hero is facing. Also, I wouldn't say it becomes better "the longer you charge it." Rather, it has differing properties with each level of charge for different results.
Woosh only has 10 frames of landing lag, has the smallest hitbox, & hits once, making it a rather obnoxious OoS. This has its usage, like going past the ledge & on-stage or retreating to platforms after the OoS. Swoosh has 24 frames of landing lag with 4 hits (dealing 8.4%), eats 9 MP, has 14 frames startup, & has a better aerial horizontal drift than the others, traveling the farthest horizontally. The vortex also moves straight down as the hitbox lingers, making it very good for snatching low recoveries. Kaswoosh has 32 frames of startup, travels the longest vertically, hits 6 times (dealing 22.8%), & has the largest hitboxes left in its wake that linger the longest, but they don't move downward.
Neutral B takes a measly 28 frames to become Frizzle & 80 frames to become Kafrizz.
Side B's three charge tiers are relevant too. Zap can be used on frames 7-16, Zapple on frames 17-33, Kazap needs all 34 frames to use.
I hope this informs anyone still wondering about these moves.
