    how much fondant did you use for this cake? Do you know if after putting the ganache how well it will hold up in the refrigerator before decorating?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  6 лет назад

      Weebel Duran I can't remember the exact amount but I reckon it was around 2kg of fondant. You don't have to keep the cake in the fridge at all, I just did because of the extreme high temperatures here.

    would love to try this tutorial for my son's birthday... but please tell us how did you make the fondant shiny and glossy? thank you😊

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  7 лет назад

      ttzerskie mhemhe You can steam it. That's the common way. Mine got shiny as I took the picture when I removed the cake from the fridge. As it was quite hot that day it caused some condensation on the outside that dries after a while.

      Gabo2103 it would serve about 40 people, depending on the size you cut them...

      Jane Samy which knife do you mean? The scalpel?

    • @janesamy6752
      @janesamy6752 7 лет назад

      +SimplyBakeCakes the one you use to cut out the cake... it's like a leveller. where can I get one of these, and how is it called?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  7 лет назад

      Jane Samy Ahh...I see which ones you mean. I use them to level my cakes. You simply insert a knife or blade at the desired level. Very handy and much cheaper than regular cake leveler. Hi, you said you made TWO 12x9 inch cakes? Is this the same quantities as your link: ruclips.net/video/31icG4fil5o/видео.html
    I wanted to check as it seems like a lot of cake (when making two)! Also, in your video, when the two 12x9 cakes are wrapped in cling film and then in the next shot the first section is placed on the silver board, it looks narrower in width?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  6 лет назад

      Belinda Brooke The recipe is the same but quantity is different. Think I doubled the recipe per cake

    • @belindabrooke8201
      @belindabrooke8201 6 лет назад

      Sorry, now I'm even more confused! haha. Do you mean you have doubled the recipe in this link ruclips.net/video/31icG4fil5o/видео.html To make two 12x9 inch cakes (so I can attempt to make your amazing pirate ship cake!), do I need to make this recipe twice? For example, the recipe says 7 eggs, therefore to make enough for two 12x9 inch cakes I would need 14 eggs?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  6 лет назад

      Belinda Brooke no I mean double the recipe for each. But depending on how much servings you need you can obviously use less in a smaller pan...

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  6 лет назад

      Belinda Brooke sorry I wasn't clear on this. Following my recipe you would use ONE full recipe PER cake (yes 14 eggs in total, 2x7).

    What is "torted"?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  7 лет назад

      Carol Ilse Anne That's when you cut a cake horizontally. You can torte a layer one or more.

    • @carolilseanne2175
      @carolilseanne2175 7 лет назад

      I see, so it's sliced, or split horizontally? I understand "torte" as a gateau which seemed rather excessive. Thank you for your explanation.

    Why does the boat look wet and shiny?

    • @SimplyBakeCakes
      @SimplyBakeCakes  6 лет назад +1

      lilylollipop10 because it was around 30C that day and I had kept the cake in the fridge. When I took it out condensation formed which made it look wet/shiny but it disappears after a while...
