- How to make the Pirate captain as a birthday cake. In this cake decorating tutorial I show you how to make a face cake of the pirate from the Aardman animation movie 'The Pirates! Band of Misfits' also known as 'The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!'

Basic Victoria sponge cake recipe -
Ingredients:
225g butter
225g caster sugar
4 eggs
225g self-raising flour
1 tsp vanilla essence
Method:
Cream together the butter and sugar, then beat in the eggs and vanilla essence. Once smooth and creamy, fold in the flour.
Pour in to a greased cake tin and bake in the oven at 180degrees for approximately 40 minutes, until golden brown and a knife comes out clean.
Buttercream recipe -
600g icing sugar, sifted
300g unsalted or salted butter, softened
optional flavouring
Beat the ingredients together.

i love your attention to detail. i am inspired and learn lots from ur videos. i just wondered, does all the fondant get eaten? it seems like a lot of fondant to just end up in the rubbish bin. i love how it looks and all the techniques but is it actually eaten? It's one of the things that stops me from working more with fondant even though I love the endless possibilities. thanks!
Thanks for watching and for all your support! It depends who the cake is for. If someone doesn't like fondant I doubt they would order a cake with fondant on. Kids seem to love it the most. Although this one was just made for a video and not an order :) You could always try finding a brand you like the taste of or even make your own :)
Yes that's true! Whenever I use fondant the kids gobble it up! Way too much sugar. Yeah my favourite is homemade marshmallow fondant. The taste is awesome. I find there's very few people who actually like eating fondant, other than the kiddos. Thanks for the reply. My 2 little girls and I love your videos!

Your cakes are absolutely amazing! I recreated one and it looked great thanks to your video. I was wondering though how you dye your fondant because every time I use gel food die, it becomes incredibly tacky and hard to use?
Thank you for the support! I use Sugarflair food colours ' food gels, although other colours should work too. Just add in some trex / shortening when it gets a bit tacky :)
