Based on what i read is that the AGM-123 Skipper is primarily for Anti Shipping.
Given its nickname and the fact that the A-6 is the one wielding it, it makes sense
It was used against the Iranian Navy in 1988 (Operation Praying Mantis) and against the Iraqi Navy in 1991 (Operation Desert Storm).
They can fire horizontally and travel for quite a distance without losing a lot of altitude. They’re not modeled well.

Problem with skippers in game is that they only start guide themselves by laser, and correct very late just few seconds before impact...
All laser guided bombs do this. It's really annoying and there have been bug reports for months about it but Gaijin hasn't even acknowledged it. :(

It’s because the seeker on the Paveways only detects a laser at around 3km, and it has a limited acquisition cone.

@@cacham8747 yea, my biggest problem is the l8 ww2 tanks, since in an uptier you sometimes physically dont have enough pen, but anything before or after is easy even in an uptier

@@Zorro9129True, this thing is so slow and not maneuverable. Super easy to spot too. Even easier to dodge if you have an LWS.

I can see this being useful for getting the high precision achievement. Hitting a target from 20 km away means you have to be able to reach the target from 20 km away.

To be honest they are probably going to be VERY good for people who want to throw bombs from out of range of SPAA. You won't need to pull up so hard because they can almost have a flat trajectory if "dropped" when angled up a good bit. Only problem is now players can just look for smoke in the air and move away vs how much does this really help when you can just throw regular bombs while angled further up?

A-7's could also carry these, so I'm hoping it gets added to at least the A-7K or E
We gave you a bomb-missile with an effective range of no more than 7 kilometres from the target. Now fight against the Pantsir with a range of 20 km. Ah yes, such a missile in our game is not capable of destroying a moving target.

They still need to fix normal Paveway IIs. Because currently 2:10, they do NOT glide like they are supposed to; and the first thing Russia players are gonna do is bitch about how the TRAM shouldnt be able to carry Skippers even though its other ordnance literally doesnt fucking work making the plane unusable.
It’s really rare to see a “Russian main” complain, and especially over something so insignificant as this terrible A2G weapon.

Due to the addition of a half decent CAS muniton finally given to NATO and the overwhelming Russian main complaints. Gaijin has decided to add a new Pantsir variant with 50km range radar and hypersonic missiles, to better ballance the game.

S1 can already intercept every single Air to Ground launch, even if 1 S1 will die - they just pick another for 70SP. Nothing will cahnge.

are these affected by Fuse timers? ie do they behave like a bomb w/ a delay when set or do they behave like a rocket and always explode instantly on impact
Thats called a ATGM (Air To Ground Missile)
ATGM stands for "Anti tank guided missle". " Air To Ground Missle" is AGM like in the weapons designation (AGM-123). Which is interesting because its actually meant to be used as an Anti ship missile (ASM).

rocket would imply unguided and bomb would implied unpropelled... yet it is propelled and it is guided so...

A-6E is 10.3, you will not fight Pantsirs anyway. For CAS at top tier F16C has everything it needs to fight Pantsirs. The only thing top tier US really needs is for ADATS to be classified as SPAA so as to not double the cost of spawning it or other tanks. Right now US is the only nation that cannot spawn an SPAA for 100SP and will not be able to spawn an MBT, then a SPAA and then another tank unless it gets some good kills.

It is, yes. Hence the designation AGM-123.
I hope we get Cruise missile in addition to larger Air to Air maps...But who am I kidding Warthunder litteraly just refuses to balance the top tier air to air game. Also I heard their considering something with Multi-Pathing...Which if removed will make the games in top tier even more of that of arcade but all I or we can do is hope.

Hey we uptiered the A-6E because it's too strong, we also added a new weapon to make it even stronger.

@@Miragexe Yeah it technically gives it a longer range, but this thing is 10.7 now. The Skipper is slow and requires constant guidance. It also prevents you from taking double pylon paveways. No reason to use it over aircraft like the A-7E and F-4E, which would fit in the same lineup and perform much better because they can fight AA much better.

You're still outranging practically all other SPAA.

The main problem isn’t even the range, it’s that it’s slow, and have to maintain a lock the entire time.
Gaijin doing everything they can to not add HARMs, so that Pantsir can remain vastly overpowered. So funny how no other nation has a counter or something similiar in range

Not like Russia had to get a Panstir and not a TOR that was literally getting added at the same time. These weapons aren't that good from testing on dev, mainly due to the rocket motor being made to propel shrikes (much lighter missile) instead of a 1000lb bomb
