    It's always fun watching fellow Cajuns getting prepped for pending disasters! Like you good folks, my area just west of Lafayette was spared as well from a direct hit. Well, truth be told, we were actually spared from ANYTHING related to Francine, once she came on shore, the skies here started clearing out and the rain completely stopped. And, word from friends in the areas that were hit directly is power is already being restored in large chunks, so the power should be on everywhere sooner rather than later!

    It's refreshing to see people who aren't just happy that the storm went somewhere else, but concerned for the people who got hit by the storm. I remember when Harvey came a friend from church tried to claim victory because they prayed the storm would not come here. The caveat is Rockport was literally destroyed by a Cat 5 storm that spent 8 hours with the eye over that town, and 2 weeks later after all the rain made its way down to our town, that guy's house was flooded by 5 feet of water along with so many others. Sad for all that have been adversely affected by Francine.

    • @CajunCountryLivin
      @CajunCountryLivin  5 дней назад +1

      Definitely a humbling experience to live through this type of storm! I’ve been through some really bad ones that forever changed our landscape and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. 😊

    • @TheSpadre
      @TheSpadre 5 дней назад

      @@CajunCountryLivin Linving through Harvey was also a life-changing experience. Seeing Rockport being destroyed and then getting zero media attention afterward because of the massive devastation of the flooding in Houston was painful, but then two weeks after Harvey left all that water ended up flooding most of my hometown, again with little to no coverage. It feels like you are going through it without anyone knowing.

    awe she's so cute, she seems like a sweetheart I'm glad you rescued her. when I was little my mom rescued a golden retriever who was abandoned at a truck stop, her uterus was infected and had like 20 pounds of pus inside of it. the vet removed it, and we took her home. She had severe hip dysplasia but instead of putting her down we took care of her and gave her so much love. she was the happiest most grateful sweetest girl you could ever ask for, and we took care of her until we sadly had to put her down because she was in too much pain and couldn't get around anymore. We made sure she was loved and did our best to give her a happy life.

Weekly people throw their dogs /cats out of their vehicle(s) while at top of the highrise (NOLA). This is a I-10 bridge over the industrial canal. Despicable. Disgusting. Crazy how even those of us who hunt, fish, care deeply about the treatment of animals. God Bless y’all!

    As a kid in 1969, my father was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi when Camille hit. Fortunately, no one in my family was injured. We went to a big concrete hangar on the AFB and sheltered there. It was not a good thing, but as odd as it sounds, my father taught me that when you have no running water, you can gather ditch water, pond water, etc, and at least flush the toilet.
    Years later, in 1983 I was in Houston (ironically 2 days away from a planned move to the DFW area) when Alicia hit. Not a terribly powerful storm, as Camille proved to be, but the side ways winds managed to blow through the apartment brick facade walls, ruining the stuff we had stacked against them in prep for the move. Then Rita hit in 2005. My father was dying from cancer, and my mom was stuck out on their homestead near Woodville Texas, and the storm did severe damage to their property but fortunately none of the fallen trees hit the house. My brother and I spend a week cutting trees and building fires to burn them.
    Hurricanes are no fun, and I am glad that y'all came through this one in good shape.
    I also share your contempt for anyone who treats a pet the way Francine seems to have been. She's found a good home!

Y'all were very wise to get a head start on prepping and did a great job of anticipating what consequences Francine could bring. We have had a few pretty good earthquakes the past couple of weeks. While we do have a warning system that messages your phone (sometimes it works) it's only a matter of a very few seconds before you feel the quake. They haven't been too big and we are a fair distance from their epicenters but could certianly feel them nonetheless. The world needs more good people like you two. I'm not sure what people think when they drop their animals off like that. I'm glad that you missed the hurricane and are safe. Thanks again for sharing your story, and I guess 9 puppies 😂
