I meant to mention this on the first episode, but the reason this game is so nostalgic for me is because my best friend gave this to me as a goodbye present when his family moved to California in 4th grade. I was super depressed, but this game made it easier for me to cope.
mikelelex I should have worded that better. My story was explaining the reason I'm fond of the game. Barry seems to be having flashbacks as well, and Ross is just confused as hell since he never played it. Hence why he'd wonder why people are nostalgic for it.
I wish I could unwatch this. This race reawakened suppressed memories from years gone by. I am Lego. You are Lego. All is Lego. Dancing pirate skeleton and pizza is all that matters. I build my coffin from bricks, and wait for the cold slumber of my plastic corpse.
I never really played the original _Lego Island_, but I did have _Lego Island 2_ as a kid, and watching this video just highlights to me how much more of a cohesive and coherent experience the second one is. Relatively speaking.
when i raced i used to just turn around and explore every possible way for there to be a secret shortcut. in my memory every map had a secret passage. and that there was one track of where the secret passage was like an entire different track. the hours i've spent on that.....
I'm telling you guys, Forza ain't got JACK DIDDLY *SHIT* on Lego Racing! Look how fucking realistic those pizzas role, not to mention the photo-realistic graphics add to the fucking majesty that is Lego:Island.
Psst. Lego Racing and Lego Island are two different games, this being Lego Island. Lego Racing came out a few years later and was actually a really good racing game for it's time, unlike the janky barf inducing races in Lego Island.
SilverRay8585 I'm pretty sure that if you search for a bit, you can find a racing game with a racetrack on mars. I do agree that Lego Racing was the shit, but not for that reason.
I love how out of place and sinister the underground racetrack is compared to everything else in this game. All it needs is some realistic blood when you get crushed by the giant rolling pizza, and it'd be a real life creepypasta.
I also distinctly remember this fever dream of a race I remember my mom and dad beating it easily and me not being able to do better than third. Still I love this game.
I think Barry and Ross are my favorite Steam Train combo They feel like how Arin and Jon were, and they seem to debate more about stuff and talk which is a nice break from Arin's over the top style
We all have that terrible game that we played as kids but did not know was terrible. For me, that game was Lilo and Stitch: Trouble in Paradise for PC. I loved that game so much.
They were talking about DOS games though, my best bet is Star Control. At first I thought maybe they were maybe talking about Master of Orion which would have melted my brain with happiness Edit: Oh nevermind, you were right! Freelancer and Star Citizen share the same designer.
FYI: Original Freelancer designer Chris Roberts started a crowdfunding campaign in October 2012 to fund a spiritual successor to Freelancer called Star Citizen, which is scheduled to be released in early 2015. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freelancer_%28video_game%29
I remember that i found that game CD hanging somewhere as a defense agaist boars, so i just nicked it because i didn't know better... It seemed REALLY bad to me as a kid, i don't think i ever made it through that starting bit.
I so agree; have not played this since the early 1990s and as soon as the race started I immediately recognized the course and this was my favorite part of the game :D
Lego Island with my Gateway 2000 in 1997 I loved this as a kid, Oregon Trail the Third, Doom, Doom 2, Rainbow Six, Delta Force 1 and 2, Anamaniacs, Sonic CD.... Many Many more I loved the 90s
I think the space trade game you guys are talking about is *Wing Commander: Privateer* and it would indeed be awesome to see it played on Steam Train as I can imagine some great reactions from being attacked by pirates or those Space fundamentalist Amish-type thing guys. Although if you do decide to play it, let me give you this tip right now: BUY A MOTHERFUCKING JUMP DRIVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE YOU NEED IT TO GET TO OTHER SECTIONS I KNOW HOW YOU GUYS ARE YOU WON'T LISTEN WHEN AN NPC TELLS YOU ABOUT IT! Also, don't install big ol' guns right away. They'll drain your fuel/energy thing.
You know what's an actually awesome LEGO game? Lego Rock Raiders. That shit was awesome back in the day, would love to see a playthrough of it on this channel. Also, Barry and Ross make an awesome and fun team. Keep it up guys.
Ghosts, humongous rolling pizzas, zombies, gigantic skeletons, random bricks raining from the sky, space shuttles, targets painted on the ground, massive octopus, spinning life sized people cards (phantom zone?)... Makes sense to me.
Was Ross talking about 'Gazillionaire'? It was that one from like, 95, and it was where you were flying around space, picking up cargo at low prices and then selling it at high prices to trippy-looking aliens, and it was basically the coolest thing to do in math class because you got to play video games in school...
Frontier. Frontier. The game you're talking about in the video is Frontier, yeah? It's not made by Chris Roberts, actually, he made more actiony games like wing commander. It's made by David Braben, the guys making Elite Dangerous (the direct sequel). I'm sure other commenters have said this, but it's Frontier. I say this because I spent about four hours less than a week ago trying to get it to work with optimum settings in DOSbox. Worth it.
Is it likely that? I had that game and loved playing it, but constantly was stuck at one level and it frustrated me keep failing it without a clue on how to win as a dumb kid.
Haha, wow, I literally never expected this to show up on Steam Train or Grumps. You can actually use the arrow keys to control everything, btw. Still a bit awkward but it's a HELL of a lot easier to control.
I', with Barry on this. I played this non stop while I was a kid, and that race gave me nightmares too. Ohhh nostalgia, you can be scary, but you still feel the same.

Me: Oh my God, those goddamn doors brought back all my nightmares. At least the laps are way shorter than I remember. Barry: ok do lap 2 Ross: THERE'S A LAP 2? Me: :') ok
I played this one as a youth, very nostalgic to see it played w/o crashing. I enjoy the channel, any idea when the next table flip might be? Ok
JoJo Navarro Just thought I'd share considering how insane this game is. Makes you wonder why people who played it as kids are so fond of it.
TB8S .. what? Your story doesn't make me wonder why people are fond of this game.
Well this comment section just got a lot more feels-y.
mikelelex I should have worded that better. My story was explaining the reason I'm fond of the game. Barry seems to be having flashbacks as well, and Ross is just confused as hell since he never played it. Hence why he'd wonder why people are nostalgic for it.

Poetic as *FUCK*
Edgar Allen Poe would be proud.
I would like you to know, I read that while sitting on the toilet pushing out the mexican food from earlier
Shh...you're making me moist.
Khp13sU-L I hope the Mexican food wasn't too unkind to you as it left.
Starts singing "too many cooks"
Finally, I can see Ross get kicked by a giant pirate skeleton
Life complete.
That's my fetish
That shit cracked me up as a kid and cracked me up just the same today as I watched I have no idea why its so satisfying.

Do you smell burning plastic? Because that lego got BURNED.
Is your name hostess? Cuz THAT was a zinger!
***** oh baby a triple

I thought Barry was just exaggerating, but that race is pretty terrifying.
12:06 - 12:10 I just love how he's like "Here's your red brick that you busted your ass for!" *Kicks it into the ocean*
I never really played the original _Lego Island_, but I did have _Lego Island 2_ as a kid, and watching this video just highlights to me how much more of a cohesive and coherent experience the second one is. Relatively speaking.
Lego Racers is an awesome game!
mikillatja That bastard Rocket Racer is crazy hard. Took me years to beat him. Would absolutely love to see the grumps play Lego Racers.
It hasn't aged super well, honestly. That said, I played the hell out of it when I was a kid.
That may be, it's been a few years since I last played it but still, once a good game alaways a good game.
it is a awesome game
when i raced i used to just turn around and explore every possible way for there to be a secret shortcut.
in my memory every map had a secret passage. and that there was one track of where the secret passage was like an entire different track.
the hours i've spent on that.....
lol when I was 6 years old that racetrack was terrifying.. really weird seeing this again after so many years
I love this new Danny+Arin combo! Keep 'em coming!
Haha what?
MMMStudios1000 I'm assuming he's being sarcastic.
What?
This is Barry and Ross.
i am confused
That race track. That wonderfully insane race track. That was my favorite thing about this game back in the day.
I'm all for Lego Racers on Steam Train, those games were my childhood.
Surprised Barry forgot that the skeleton kicks you. That screwed me over all the time as a kid.
I'm telling you guys, Forza ain't got JACK DIDDLY *SHIT* on Lego Racing!

Dude Lego racers was legit. Can you race on mars on any other racing game? (Mario kart is a close second in racing in space)

Oh my god, I remember this race from my childhood. I'd totally forgotten about all of the skeletons that are there for no reason. :-D
Watching this before bed was a great idea! Now I'm going to dream about giant spiders and pizzas.
I'm not sure whats worse: the fever dreams that race induced on me as a child, or the fact you have to win it as all 5 characters.
This brings back memories of my very first Lego game I played.
This race was actually one of my favorite parts of Lego Island. I still see nothing wrong with it :P

Bier Bart Kinda surprised that a game you found hanging in a tree even worked
The ghost..... "I liked Emmet before it was cool"
Nostalgia reaching critical levels..
I played this game up down left right and sideways, absolutely loved every second of it all, the race was so hard for me as a kid though.
I don't recall this racetrack at all. Quite possibly I blocked it out... that shit was insane...
This. Game. Is. Life.
Isn't it, though? Block after block is built in order to secure our future, a true monopoly of wonder.
I wouldn't say block :') most of this game is made out of 3 polygons xD
"I'm gonna park on your mothers grave"? Jesus dude!!! XD
;)
I love how happy Barry is that Ross is getting into the game
Play Lego Rock Raiders! (Do you remember it?)
That used to be my favorite video game!!
thank you! i forgot the name!
Im pretty stoked about how equally terrified and excited they got while playing this.
I so agree; have not played this since the early 1990s and as soon as the race started I immediately recognized the course and this was my favorite part of the game :D
Black and yellow!? I didn't know Ross was a Steelers fan!?
no, he just wants it to be bumblebee
stickflux HA! Just like their UGLY bumblebee throwback uniforms!
Goddammit, Ross.
No, he just listens to Wiz Khalifa
Goddamnit Ross

So much of this series has just been a bunch of "oh yeah! I remember this!"
My nostalgometer is hitting off the charts.
The nostalgia is so strong. Gosh I had completely forgotten about this game until now.
Aw I like how Ross slowly starts to enjoy the game for Barry's sake.
I know exactly how you feel Barry. Each time you guys get into a new area or race, it brings back tons of memories!
This whole game is just one huge fever dream I've had.
This series is slowly becoming one of my favouirtes
I think its just Barry's nostalgia for the game. Makes me want to play it :)

Also, Barry and Ross make an awesome and fun team. Keep it up guys.
The racing section was such a throwback to my childhood.
I squeed out when they said Lego Racer. That was my childhood.

Ross and Barry combo ftw bros, great showmanship guys!

"Did you think the watersport was interesting?"
Nice choice of words, Barry
They weren't kidding about the nightmare fuel in that race. That is some pretty weird stuff.

Lego Racers and Rock Raiders are the two Lego games we used to have. Wonder where they are now...
The starship game is Wing Commander. Starring Mark Hamill.
Is it likely that? I had that game and loved playing it, but constantly was stuck at one level and it frustrated me keep failing it without a clue on how to win as a dumb kid.
Well, it's the series the guy who makes Star Citizen used to make and it certainly sound like it.

4:19 "What the fuck is Cthulhu doing there!?!"
Of all the crazy things I saw and heard in this video, this quote made me laugh the most! XD
The game they're talking about around 2 minutes is Wing Commander Privateer, for anyone that's curious.
That last turn before the finish line is always a pain. I lose my momentum every time and I panic that others will catch up.
Haha, wow, I literally never expected this to show up on Steam Train or Grumps. You can actually use the arrow keys to control everything, btw. Still a bit awkward but it's a HELL of a lot easier to control.
oh my god, this brought back so many memories! This fucking racetrack, I used to do it OVER and over and over again to get in first place. Wow

Just putting that out there.
1:19 YES YES! Please play it on Steamtrain! 10/10 best game would totally game ever
That was the most stressful race I've seen in a long time.
I'm having vivid flashbacks too. Except on our 90s PC the race ran at like 5 frames a second which just added to the freakiness.
