I agree .. we should protect and preserve the cockpit country even if we have to use our bodies as a group of protesters and stop them... I think the artists and organizers in Jamaica should perform a free concert to get more attention on this situation and to get the word out for a peaceful protest or several protests until they listen to us and stop the foolery.

This is some powerful stuff, a real spiritual awakening to all of us.
Jamaica is a real treasure of the earth, a gift from God.
We should all leave the Thorny Rose Garden abroad, come back home and help curate this wonderful treasure of our hearts.
I agree there are many places that are richer... but none more beautiful or better.
We are beautiful people and what I believe is...the salt of the earth.
Cherish and protect our blessing to preserve it, or lose it forever.

I visited Cockpit country for the first time in 2009 I would not otherwise have the privilege of knowing such beauty lying in Jamaica, leaving Jamaica at a young age but never forgotten where I was from born in one of the largest parish Trelawney. born from Maroon parents I decided to trace my roots and what I found was a unique group of people of my tribe I had no means before to know much of my roots as there was no teaching of the various native of Jamaica or maybe I was too young to understand in those days it was only when I decided to write my life story and wanted to trace my relatives in Jamaica after visiting the parish and district where I was born after 31 years away from Jamaica I visited Accompong Maroon Town St Elizabeth, travelling through cockpit country the impression I gather was most delightful and we met a group of around 16 members of the Maroons tribe on arrival who learned of us within minutes of arrival that there was some outsider maroons are there on visits we were then given a good reception by these forks we were taken for a stroll around the Accompong, and shown many various part of the Accompong such as school, church and meeting place and was introduce to the various families men women and children around the Accompong and were given explanations of how their system operate in the Accompong, Our trip was short as the journey from Ochi St Ann was so far we wanted to return before night fall on advise by our driver. Had it not for the journey we would have spent longer, I was amaze to learned of the warmness of these brothers and sisters and their land and culture that they strongly and proudly believe in and such riche culture flourishing around them in Jamaica today, I have learned many things about my Maroons connections through that visit I do hope to pay another visits sometime to come and urge others to do so.

The footprints of these injustices can be traced across every single colonial regions of the world and is still evident TODAY. People are disregarded, undervalued, disrespected, overlooked, ostracised, undermined and pushed aside without due concern from those who are 'presumably' supposed to have the well-being of the population at heart.

Thanks for your video. I am a Jamaican who left Jamaica at the age of 18, but my love of Jamaica, the land of my birth has never waned. I watched the video with a mixture of shock, bewilderment and anger. The questions that occupied my mind while watching were: Are Jamaican politicians sleep-walking through the threats to our environment that have now reached a critical point in our lives? Maybe they are living on another planet. They are supposed to be the educated elite; how is it then that relatively uneducated people can see with clarity what the politicians are not able to see, or is it the case that they are so blinded by monetary greed that they are blinded to the arguments being made by the wise people in this video. COME ON JAMAICAN POLITICIANS, WAKE UP!

  • @GrahameMcLeod

Great video - greatly enriched by meeting the locals! This part of Jamaica is not often visited by tourists; I taught in Jamaica for some years but I hardly went there; I visited the Blue Mountains often. The word cockpit refers to a shallow cave. And there are many here. The region is covered with limestone which dissolves readily in rainwater to produce depressions and caves.
    Keep up the good work!

All our resources are being shipped overseas to already wealthy economies. This is sheer gluttony, greed, carelessness, heartlessness without conscience.

At the time, it seemed the mining was being held at bay and I am heartsick to read that the mining and money interests are planning to displace so many that have so little, and destroy the Cockpit land. Thank you for posting this very important, and informative video. I felt both immense anger and deep sadness. Anger, over greedy politicians, and heartless corporate businesses, stockpiling cash, and destroying one of the most beautiful islands in the world; destroying communities, natural water supplies, delicate fauna and flora, wildlife, and nutrient rich land. It makes me feel sick to my gut. Sadness, because the people that live there will be uprooted and displaced, placed into communities that don't understand their connectedness to nature and the land. I pray please please don't let any mining or destruction of this land. It's the end of jamaica if mining there gets the go ahead.

    greetings 💧✨🌿
i'm grateful i watched this film. i wanted to share something i feel is an important part of the puzzle ~ maybe the key piece which much of the world s 'modern' humans have been forgetting over the generations, and which this man says and brings so well to light : that *Earth is Alive* and to 'get theis' not just in our minds as a romantic idea, but to find a way in our experience to know this first hand.
i feel this is the crux of the matter for all of the destruction going on around the world ...
and which manifests in humans as personal relationships where only conflict and 'taking' are done, whilst all of the gifts of heartfelt love are ignored.
    we are not separate.
if we experience bad reality, we are the result of overall imbalance.
it makes me happy to see young people learning to appreciate the harmonious relationship possible with their treasure of 'environment'. .... which it seems they will treasure as themselves. 💙🌈💦
may the cockpit country be recognized as a depth of earth's femininity, womb and bossom, and to respect as one would respect a beautiful young mother in human form.

I am from Scarborough, St Ann. Over 60 years ago the villagers sold their land to Kaiser - based on false promises and lies. Nothing happened for decades. Out of the blue, the mining company turned up to claim the land. By this time, most of the villagers had spent the money they got for the land. The houses the mining companies promised was located on barren, stony land where very little could grow - bad news for the farming community so many had to go to America for work. Scarborough and surrounding areas is a wasteland.

The Jamaican government past and present behave as if they have no formal education. With them,
whatever the white man wants the white man gets. With the rapid rise of global warming we are putting our people and our country at risk. It seems the man with little or no education is wiser than those who has been educated in the finest universities around the world. It seems we should let the local people run the country as they talk better sense than the government who only line their pockets. Jamaica under better management should be a rich country not licking the ass of the other carribean island USA and other country. The land is filled with so much resources.

After the government allowed this to happen, what will be done to the economy. The trees and the wildlife plays a big part of our island taking that away will be a big disaster. Its time for Jamaican to take a stand because we the people pays for everything with our hard earned money while the heads of parliament live like the rich and famous. If we put them there we have the power and our voices to remove them. I support this movement so our grandchildren can inherit it👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I think that the people should call upon the Spirits of the Ancestors to assist. Killing the enemy is a special part of what the Ancestors can do. Keep some tables and feasts and let the Ancestors do the rest.

This is pure greed by the political leaders cuz they can go to live anywhere they want, so, they don't care about the country their plan is to bring it to destruction. All of us Jamaicans no matter what part of the world we are we must come together to stop these greedy monsters

Baxuite mining has being one of the biggest environmental disasters in Jamaica. Ask the people of St. ANN, South Manchester and St. Elizabeth and they got nothing in return. I've never taken part actively in civil disobedience. But I am in, if the Cockpit mountain is given for mining.

Your are right. The people have the power but they just don't know. They will to rob and kill their neighbors but the politicians who are the criminals, sellouts and plundering the island resources are called Boss! RISEUP PEOPLE!

I am curious as to who are the owners of these lands and why would they sell it to the bauxite companies? I would imagine they had to buy it in order to mine it.
We were raped many years ago and we are being screwed all over again!!!!!!

I remember Fidel Castro told Michael manley that boxite was not good for Jamaica and what would become of Jamaica if we allowed them to continue mine out the land He said we would starve to death whenever the rice and the flour boat do not come to Jamaica at that time we only have 5 percent in boxite it was at that time manley increase it to 50 percent and Jamaican cuss manley (we will never know our selves untill our backs are again the wall) leave the cockpit country alone Mr pm listen to the people or else history will judge you
