I was 14 years old when my brother brought home The Turning Point in 1969. I mowed lawns all summer and bought Blues Breakers with EC, A Hard Road, Blues from Laurel Canyon, Bare Wires, and Crusade. Bought a Marine Band harp in C and eventually learned to play Room to Move. He introduced me to the music Sonny Boy, Little Walter, Otis Rush, and countless others. I stayed with him thru Lot's of People in 1977 and then I think his music got stale and contrived: the drinking was taking a toll. Saw him in Dallas in the early 90's with Buddy Whittington and you could tell he had cleaned up, the show was tight; I was back in the club. The harmonica has been a lifelong hobby, and I still listen to his early stuff. Not many albums will put a smile on my face like Jazz Blues Fusion from 1972. Thanks John, you played the soundtrack to my life.

Thank You John for working so hard to entertain. You have done something that all of us wish we could do. Leave our fellow humans with an infinite amount of material / music to enjoy until the end of our days. You are missed and will continue to be missed. Luckily for your fans, you will always be available by dropping a needle on to a turning piece of vinyl and you will once again be directly with us in the same room. RIP and "THANK YOU!"

Coco Montoya! Fabulous! As a promoter, I got to present Coco several times. I had Mayal at a summer blues festival one time. I was fairly used to meeting famous musicians, by then, and was thrilled to be able to meet Mayal. When the time came, I was totally tongue tied! I said “Hi” and “great to meet you” and then went blank. John smiled and nodded, then continued walking across the backstage area - and that was it!
My moment had passed! And I’ll laugh and regret it for all my remaining days! lol!
      Peace

I saw John at my favorite local blues festival a few years ago. He was nice enough to sign my copy of The Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton album. Rocky Athas was his guitarist at the time, and sounded killer! I realized how many incredible guitar players, violinists, flutists, and saxophonists, bassist, and drummers have played with John over the years and gone on to greater heights. He was the ultimate finishing school for the blues, wasn't he? He always had a knack for getting the absolute best musicians. It's like a badge of honor or a certificate you can carry around! Haha.. People really do mention that all the time when talking about these guys that they played with Mayall. Plus Mayall is no slouch himself. Oh, no.. He played incredible harmonica and keyboards as well as guitar. He really was such a legend with his own signature style. By the way that is the legendary Coco Montoya playing with the Letterman band (Paul Shaffer on keyboards, Will Lee on bass, Sid McGinnis on guitar, and Anton Fig on drums). I have seen him as well as Walter Trout live and both are just monsters on guitar!

The first day moving into college dorms in ‘76 as a freshman not yet 18 and walking in with my parents, some of the older guys had dragged lounge furniture out onto the patio and their large Advent speakers, smoking pot and playing what I later found out was Room to Move, I’m thinking one “whoa I’m going to like this college thing” and two “that music is awesome, who’s the band?”. That was my intro to John Mayall.
