Open Transmit [TX] MOD On ICOM IC-V86 (Test at the END!)

- In this video I'll show how to open the TX on this Icom IC-V86 HT Handy Talkie using only 1 tool. This is a very easy modification, but you must proceed at your own risk! This can damage your radio. After the mod your radio should transmit from 136-174. There may be a need to reset the radio after the mod although mine didn't need anything special. I removed the part and it was working fine afterwards.
I have one of these with a handful of batteries and have never used it. I also have two Yaesu FT-65's that have the transmit opened and carry three antennas with them, one 2M/70CM, one 155 MHz for MURS, marine, VHF business, and one for GMRS/UHF business. The 5w Yaesu's transmit at 3.4w on GMRS which is acceptable for transmitting out of band, I can still reach the repeater 57 miles away. Did this mod on the ICOM V-86 affect the memory you stored. I have the RT Systems programming disc for this ICOM and am thinking about breaking that diode out like you did but don't want to ruin an excellent radio. Thank you for this video, I've had the V-86 for two years and was very disappointed that I couldn't get the MARS mod from HRO.
HI, I don't know for sure if the memory will be wiped out. I didn't have any channels stored when I did the mod. I have manually programmed in some freq's since the mod with no trouble, but I did it manually.. I didn't try the programming disc since I don't have one available to me.. Hope that helps.. 😊

Please, what is the external microphone connection of this radio? Its connector is 3 pins. 73
HI... You might be able to find the pinout for it in the manual. I usually just use an Icom microphone that already has everything connected.

I just received my v86 from gigaparts,, and paid extra for this mod. However I cannot get the gmrs frequencies to program. It says "certain frequencies are not compatible with this radio". Does that mean the mod was not done?
HI... The V-86 is a VHF radio only. The RX-TX range after the mod is 136-174. GMRS frequencies are in the 46X.XXX frequency range. This radio does not cover that band.

I bought 2 of those exact radio thinking they were marine radios. I work at a very remote camp in Northern BC and we use marine radios as walkie talkie. Since we are way out of range from anything else. It's never been a problem. By the time i realised they were not marine radio. It was a couple months after purchased. And the reseller who sold them to me didn't want to take them back. They are brand new in the box. What can i do with them? Can they be useful for anything?
If you open these up, I believe marine band is FM and uses frequencies between 156-174... These will work if you program the specific frequency that corresponds to whatever channel you're looking for.. You might need to swap out the antenna for it to work best with a marine antenna that uses the same connector as this does.. I think it's a BNC connector if I remember right.

I haven't.. IF you go to mods.dk they have a lot of mods there and I'll bet they have the V82 listed as well. They'll make you sign up for a free account. They've never sent me any spam so there's that. From there you can compare both mods and see what the differences are if any..

Is this the same process for the IC-V80
I doubt it... You can easily go to mods.dk and compare both mods to see if there's any differences.
@@JLPicard440 I can confirm that the modification is the same on the IC-V80. The same resistor in the same location needs to be removed.

Hi I have watched your video on T70a mod, just wondering If you have an Idea how to fix T70a VFO Knob, my Kid accidentally dropped my T70a. I the volume knob no longer works only the VFO. I have problem here in my location where to get this part .

Oh wow... that does sound like a good one. Have you tried to look for a phone number for icom themselves? They'll probably have the part. I doubt the original part can be fixed.
