I was going crazy trying to transfer all our emails from the old gmail to the new one. THANK YOU for so clearly showing and explaining how to do this! You truly saved the day!
Tony, I have been struggling to back up my defective laptop and Microsoft Edge has been compromising all of my efforts. Your video has finally exhibited the best way to do it. Microsoft Support has been excellent. H.P. technical support has been horrific and I will never buy another laptop from them. Thank you. I look forward to more of your Technical videos.
Hi Tony great video! But i have a follow up question, how can i export only my inbox received email addresses? Like lets say I've received 1000 emails and i just want a list of the email addresses that emailed me. Is that possible? Thanks!
Great Video on backing up the data. Is there a bulk purge option for 32k messages in gmail? How do I clear out the inbox in gmail all at one time? Thanks again
Hi Tony, Thanks for tech tip, I wanted to know if this mbox file will have all the email addresses (like to from cc bcc) before I give it a try. Cheers
Tony, I will complete this process soon. I was wondering if there is a way to delete all emails from the gmail server after I download all and get them into thunderbird? I was also wondering if I can have all future gmail messages auto download to local drive and delete from server?
Thanks. Almost lost me too when a few steps were not illustrated from your video but overall, with a little tech smart, I was able to get it. I guess my question I still have is... it only seems that I went from one email base to the next..! They are not downloaded to my hard drive. Am I missing something? Thanks
Is there a simple way to upload the MBOX to a 2nd gmail account to be used as a backup or if the original account is getting close being full. Been searching and can't find the answer. I use Windows 7
Appreciate the video! Question - After downloading all emails does it leave a activity log in your gmail account that you downloaded/ backed-up your emails?
Thank you -- very useful! Is there a way to make sure the inbox's label and folder structure transfers over? When I imported the mbox file into thunderbird, the emails were no longer organized
This is the downside. I tried transfering my emails to another google account, but since it was from a school gmail, it wouldn't let me transfer the emails. I had to download them as described in this video, and they were also unorganized. As far as I know, there is no way to transfer the email labels and I don't know how to reorganize them within Thunderbird. I hope someone has this knowledge...
Hi. I don't understand how Thunderbird works. After I sign in to Thunderbird it automatically loads all my emails from Gmail. So basically I wouldn't need to import them cause I alreay have them there. BUT... If I delete them in the original gmail account, do they get deleted from Thunderbird as well? I want to free up all the gmail space.
I find the browsing interface of ThunderBird not as convenient and clear as gmail. It separates every email rather than arranges them in a hierarchal order like Gmail does. Do you happen to know anyway to achieve that?
It seems that the only way to get text and pictures is to copy and paste each one at a time, to which is the format I need them to be in. can this be done any faster?
My import export MG tool doesn’t give all the options. Nothing for import inbox files. Mine says v14.0.1. Do I need a different one? My thunderbird is 115.8.1
I use Outlook 365. I've nearly filled up the 15gb of free space in Gmail. Does exporting the contents of my Gmail inbox mean that the space will be cleared up?
Step missing in video: After you downloaded Thunderbird and opened it it had a folder called Inbox and was apparently connected to an email address but without any mail. When I downloaded Thunderbird I was asked to sign in with an email address, but when I did that, it immediately asked whether I wanted to download emails into Thunderbird, or download them and delete them from my email address. So I'm not sure how to reach that place in the video. I added an email account and then deleted it from Thunderbird and imported the mbox file but it showed up under Local Folders in just a single folder called All Mail, without showing the original folders of my email account...
I think you're right. I must've overlooked that when I attempted to configure Thunderbird back to an "out of the box" state. Thanks for pointing this out. So it seems like you were able to import the downloaded emails, but the original folders weren't retained?
@@TonyTeachesTech Yes. To be fair, that is how the video is. (The video shows all the emails in the Inbox but not in folders. Perhaps you don't use folders in Gmail.) If you know how to get the folders, that would be great, but I'm also researching that.
I'm very upset because I did all of this and although it worked fine transferring, when I went to my gmail and deleted everything to free up space ( which was the whole reason for this, it deleted my emails in takeout too. Wth? Why? Can someone help me with this please?
This doesn't actually work though. All it does is download junk like your email inbox preferences. There aren't actual emails in the files in that folder. The other problem is, there's no way to open the files that are downloaded either. Nothing is a .eml file, and that's what it would have to be in order to be readable.

Glad I could help Debora
how did you upload the old to the new account. That's what I am trying to do.
I was distracted by the Old Bay seasoning box on the shelf behind you. Now I'm just thinking of crab legs for lunch. thanks LOL
Tony you expressed very clearly for a person like me,who is not good at all these website stuffs. Wonderful! Thx!!! Joy seeker
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent way of explanation. Thank you champ. Love from India

VERY helpful tutorial, thanks a lot!
Thanks for this tutorial. How can you have these as regular files on a flash drive to view offline.

Very helpful, thank you sir!
thanks, and then the next step is how do i save all of those attachments from all emails automatically into a folder......?
You are the answer to my prayers.
and there are more than 199 people who should be aware of this with a thumbs up.

Great video! I have four files...3 are Zip and one is MBOX. Any idea what the zip files are? I downloaded ALL gmail and Google Drive info.

Not that I know of
Well stone me, I never knew this Dude, thanks for the info and great video :)
You're welcome Will
Nice solution
Hi Tony , is there a way to do this and get all PDF attachments or other attachments downloaded in bulk ?
I would like to know how to do this also. Thanks!
Hi, did you find a way to do this?

Did you set this up as IMAP or POP in Thunderbird?

No problem!

You bet!
Looks like the original emails remain on gmail, too. Like you're not downloading and removing them from the online gmail platform- is that correct?
If you're on a mac, just import the mbox from apple mail. Don't need any special tools or plugins.
omg. thank you. bless you heart.

Hi Tony,
Is there a way to download emails from one specific sender (outgoing and incoming)?
me too
Hi Tony, is it possible to select all emails conversations from one sender, I don't need to download my complete inbox.
Hi Tony, Why can't you see the sent msgs in thunderbird when using this method?
I use Outlook 365. I've nearly filled up the 15gb of free space in Gmail. Does exporting the contents of my Gmail inbox mean that the space will be cleared up?
This thunderbird thing doesn't seem to work for me for Windows
So cool
