      yeah with liquids especially opened original packaging ones (if they're unopened then they tend to be ok or thats what it says ont he gov.uk site) if its say a coffee flask then with anything like that or opened packaged (branded really) drinks then they will usually make you drink some of it to prove its fine, knives or anything that remotely can be considered a weapon you wont be able to get back immediately but can later on (I think its up to 4 weeks but dont quote me on that) anything else you'll be able to get back when you go to leave.

    I didn't even know we have this in the UK as well, I honestly thought it was just an American thing! I've never encountered anyone who's done it (or at least nobody has ever memtioned it), so I assume it's probably rare and highly unlikely you'll be picked. I hope I'm not since I'm autistic and have social anxiety. They say that "severe disability" excuses you but I wonder if any disability can and if that's just to scare and discourage any disabled people from using their disability as a reason to not attend.
    Anyway, this video was good and very informative!

    I just got my summons this morning.
    I really don't want to do it. I honestly don't think I'd be able to concentrate or handle the pressure of potentially sending a person to prison. I just don't think I can handle being on a jury. When I get really nervous or anxious I start to retch too,. So physically and mentally I don't think I can do it.
    Should I just be honest and state all of this on the form.
    Forcing people to do something they potentially don't want to do doesn't seem like a great system to me but I don't know what could replace or improve it.

    • @ggzii
      @ggzii  6 лет назад +4

      Yes you can do that, Just ring the local place and they will understand. You can basically get off with it for a whole host of things, but I do recommend doing it, you might enjoy it and it is very rare to be picked. Don't be worried about being nervous or anxious, its completely normally, there are a huge variety of people there and they are all in the situation. It's not your job to worry about doing the right thing or being relaxed, it's the courts job to explain and help you, and you just do your best. Let me know what you decide to do, and dont worry, they have seen everything, from nervous people to people turning up drunk and being turned away lol.

    • @Mad5am
      @Mad5am 6 лет назад +1

      GGZII Thank you for such a quick response.
      The more I think about it, it really is a weird thing (to me anyway).
      I'm just a normal person. I've never been involved with the state in any kind of way. I've never stepped foot in a courtroom, nor do I ever want to. I have no training in the law. I don't know how to listen to advocates or examine evidence. Like most people my only knowledge of these things is TV.
      Is it not civic minded of me to say I really don't believe I have the qualities/temperament to be a good juror?
      If I was defendant I don't know if I'd want a jury trial or something different. Whatever I think would help me the most.
      This is why we get the social media stuff and the other kind of nonsense, like the case of the jury using a Ouija board. The state is trying to force people to do something they potentially don't want to do.

    • @ggzii
      @ggzii  6 лет назад +1

      Neither had I mate, they talk you through everything. The whole idea behind a jury is that 12 normal people use common sense to come up with a collective verdict. You will be fine

    • @Mad5am
      @Mad5am 6 лет назад +1

      GGZII Hi. I just emailed them and said I would like to be excused. I believe I was honest. I wrote that I suffer from low self esteem and low confidence and that I might find it difficult to concentrate for long periods. I think I'm doing the right thing.
      I know it's a self-fulfilling prophecy but I don't think I'd be a good juror. I barely interact with people on a day to day basis. My job is easy, relatively stress free and I have no major responsibilities in life like paying a mortgage or looking after kids. Nothing in my personality, upbringing and life has prepared me for something like this.

    • @ggzii
      @ggzii  6 лет назад +2

      Well that's all you can do and remember even if you get told that you have to go, it doesn't mean you will be picked. Some people never get a case, some get 3 cases in their 2 weeks, others never get picked, so just take some things to watch or read.

      And damn is the system in favour of the defendants, one guy walked off free and another with the lesser of 2 charges/counts because despite thinking all 3 were guilty (3 investment scammers) based on the law and evidence provided that's all we could do.
      Furthermore fair trial rules can be quite annoying, previous similar business of one of the 3 was used and portrayed by the defence as legit and honest with the prosecution not disputing that, googled it after it was over and it was also a fraudulent business shut down by the police, not to mention there were big holes in the evidence due to relevant people with their influence on everything having their own trial. So the 3 tried to put all the blame on them + another who already plead guilty

    I will find a way of getting out of it I'll make some excuse it's annoying that you have to wait so long but this is the law in the UK you need to have so many hours for lunch and stuff I am happy with no lunch at all when I get somewhere I like things to start immediately to be honest I don't like always waiting around because normally I can't go into town and when I do and the task is complete I don't know what to do with myself so I'll just be lingering around the court also it takes a lot of energy to run around the time I get into court I'll have no energy I'll probably get into some sort of trouble because I don't really talk and I'm rubbish at form's don't forget it I'm not very independent I rely on a lot of moral support can't get that in this environment are definitely will be depressed the entire day whatever form I need to try and get excused I will do My father is very good at them so is ai

    Very interesting, I have never had a letter to do jury duty, my mum was on jury service years ago. Baby you I need extra help because of my disability I may or may not be excused, I will probably struggled doing something like this and I would not want to make a mess of things, if I get called up for a case, I am not good at speaking far too quiet (prefer listening) At least one thing I know more about the dress code,. At least one thing if I get called up I can talk in private

  • @petercdowney

    In December 2016, I came home one day to discover that I'd received a jury summons in the post. I had to get it deferred, and I reported for duty on 5 June. I only served as a juror on one trial, which lasted 2 weeks. It gave my brain a very good workout and ended with the defendant being found guilty on all but one of the charges against him. He was sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison.

      Hey man I have it too, I was agrophobic during my 20's. If you can explain to them how much hassle it will be and get some doctors kind of note or assistance you could skip, but if not you will be fine, they are there to help and nobody messes around as it's serious so they will take care if you, You are doing them a favour by serving

    • @ggzii
      @ggzii  6 лет назад +1

      You can bring an ipad, I watched Netflix shows that I had downloaded to it while I waited but not in court, it will be locked up and there are only so many lockers (quite a few)but not unlimited so be sure to just grab a locker

    • @derbar7051

    • @ggzii
      @ggzii  6 лет назад +5

      Put it this way, you are in a court, someone has to be pretty stupid to steal something like an ipad in a court where there are armed police, security and cameras. In a locker it will be fine, even left on the floor it would be ok!
