- Utilising sensors to obtain maximum data for your drag car is beneficial when it comes to making changes at the track. Wiring Pressure, Temperature and position sensors can be daunting and time consuming so we got some help from the crew at Whiteys Wiring to show us how a Motorsport grade wiring loom is made and what the key differences are between Club level and Pro level wiring. The boys knock out the engine and transmission wiring in teflon coated TXL wire leading to a pair of Deutsch bulkhead connectors ready for us to finish the job inside the car.
Once the boys are don we then fit up the remaining sensors required for Kevin's track data in preparation for the rest of the @haltech Nexus R5 wiring to be done.

Al, you are the closest thing I’ve ever had to a “hero”. I just got one of my fleet back on the road, your favorite; MKII MR2 Turbo, and I’ve learned so much from you since I wired that thing that I’m just going to rewire the entire thing again because I know you would have it so much more simple than this. Especially a non-A/C, non-P/S car like this?

I've been an aircraft A&P and Tech for 25 years. All this wiring stuff has migrated from aero space. We've been using it for decades. Good to see you guys using it!
I love this, coming from an industrial power electronics and servo motor field this is awsome to see materials and tools we use for industry. Woody and al this loom looks killer and it's clear these guys know how to make something robust. That tefsel wire is the BOMB and I have seen it hold up to some pretty impressive temps in electrical fault conditions.
I remember watching all of your vids years ago on wiring and using that knowledge to relocate my fuse box and install thermo fans in my 180. Finding all of the appropriate materials was a nightmare but it al came together and has operated flawlessly for years.
Self taught and sharing knowledge is a really fun way to learn but its always great to see the pro's (HP Academy are super duper pro). Very interesting to see those heat shrink solder sleeves being used also.

Well, this was a timely vid! I am just now starting to wire in all the modern conveniences I've added to my 1959 Jaguar! Sadly, I'll be replacing all those awesome Lucas push connections with official Deutsch connections. I wish you would have shown the proper technique of crimping a Deutsch barrel onto a crusty 64 year old cloth sheathed wire... but that's ok... I'll self-learn that. Keep up the good work!

Not gonna lie boys this episode was perfect, Like most of us we all want to learn wiring but its a lot of information and points to take on that it just sounds like a whole different langauge in the end but this was awesome and to the point and on top of that some how this episode may have the best rumour yet 🤣 10/10 on this one boys

what's special about kapton tape(Polyimide Tape) is it's resistant to heat unlike electrical tape that will just melt and or lose it's adhesion when things get hot.
Problem is that Kapton can break down over time. Its been used in the Aerospace industries since the sixties. The most tragic example of the failure of Kapton insulated wires was the Swissair MD 11 crash in Nova Scotia. The crash was attributed to aged kapton insulated wiring which broke down and shorted. Needless to say Kapton is banned in aviation these days.

One really nice feature I keep thinking of whenever you put in a full Haltech system is the ability to reign things in, especially for a streetable car. Have a dial that goes "Sunday Drive" - "Cruise" - "Fun" - "Hoon". Like an automotive Mean Machine Angel.

We in the US Navy call those big multi-pin firewall plugs cannon plugs. The avionics techs I worked with had to rebuild them every now and then, when they developed a short.

I work for a company that builds satellites and Kapton tape is the only tape we use. It's space rated because it doesn't outgas in space. Good stuff

I've got a terrible idea - Woody do the coyote with twin turbskis in the hot V configuration. Sure it's heinously complicated and probably doesn't work very well but imagine the thumbnails with worlds first ....coyote ....in them and the clicks!

Seat wise get yourself some Racetech, Sparco or similar Fixed back seats, can still get them braced to the cage like a Kirkey but you can comfortably sit and drive in them all day long too.

Could use your 2 extra thermocouples to monitor pre and post intercooler temperatures or water temp entering the engine after the radiator vs exiting the engine.
Yes you certainly can but we already have a Syltech high temp air temp sensor post turbo.

IME, Those heatshrink solder joints don't have enough solder to fully penetrate the wire, you need to tin the wire first.

Kapton tape is good stuff, been using it on iPad repairs and protecting components from heat during SMD rework for years.

Milspec is a whole different ballgame… aviation is like wise. Until you have soldered in a 60 wire cannon plug your just playing house. The new methods and tools are making it easy. Having wires with stuff printed on them on demand makes life so much simpler. Granted there are so many more wires on a car today with all the sensors for traction control and such. My ‘66 Chevelle or ‘68 Super Beetle had maybe 20 wires total. Today a car will have 20 microprocessors - at least. Seen a headlight unit for a Tesla 3? It’s got one or two. In a headlight!
