At the really high end shops they have a separate engine assembly room where parts are moved to after machining, cleaning and inspection. Just to make that last bit of extra mega monster sure that a pesky little metal shard from the machining area doesn't find it's way in to the client's high-dollar build and ruin a bearing surface before the fun has even started.

I’ve got the same camshafts in my fg xr6 turbo. They do sound different on idle, on the stock tune. They sound even better when they’re tuned. But wait till you see how much top end it picks up. They sound unreal and they’re one of the best decisions I’ve made

I have a shipping container full of green top LPG barras, been buying them up for cheap for years and hiding them under lock and key from now on. About 40+ engines. After my old man destroyed my ideas of good investments in the late 90s early 00s. I had a number of s13 s15 Silvia's, a couple of XE XD falcons, about 10 AE71 import corollas (ke70 released in Australia) even a mint r32 Godzilla that I sold got $35 000 in 2001! Among other cars sitting on storage. I no longer talk to my old man over it. He made me sell them all because I didn't have a trade and had gay mates. Let's just say he an old stubborn fool stuck in the 50s. Now look at the price of them! Even my Suzuki sierra I bought for $800 in 98 now goes for 10kplus! Never listen to people who say cars are a depreciating asset!
I have a neighbour with a shed full of old and rare motorcycles. One motorcycle is worth about a year’s living expenses. There are a LOT of motorcycles in that shed and enough parts to keep them going for awhile longer
This only works for cars that are initially not very fast but they get cheap and become a part of a car scene like drag racing and drifting. Once that’s over and people moved onto newer cars then prices of good examples start to go up. It takes a while, sometimes 20 years, but eventually so many cars are trashed that supply is dried up and values will go up. This happens because kids that wanted those cars are rich now and see them growing in value as an investment. They also have nostalgia for the car so auctions for very good examples can go crazy. Just look at JDM cars that are most used today in racing like the GR86, STI, 350z, GTR, Civic R, etc. They all cost just a few thousand to get with low miles. Pick one up, drain the gas, and just shove it in a barn for 30 years. It will 10x in price. I guarantee it.
Most stored engines end up with chewed out bearings from the acid building up in the old oil. Take the bearing caps off and you'll find to need for a new crank and bearings.
Did I see you put a tiny smear RTV on the head surface around waterways as an insurance with MLS gasket; do you do the same on block side? With the updated main bolts: did you need to line hone the mains or not felt necessary following clearance measurements?
Are the holes for the cam girdles blind? I've always thought that oiling a blind hole is a bad idea, because it creates hydraulic pressure when the bolt is tightened

did you guys put oil pump gears in? Ive struggled to find anyone who actually knows what specs oil pump gears should have, plenty of people sell them but noones knows the clearances, so many chuck them in and send it
Been telling people for a while now that turbo motors aren’t worth it and while green tops make good power they’re not reliable. Built junkyard barra is the way to go! Awesome work as always guys.
11 .8 - 11 = .8 ( point eight mm over ) So true 3 times the parts . Hope it went well . The BA is the hardest to remove the OCV s . Ford are very clever with Finance , in my experience says Ford pistons are budget pistons because that's the market they are sold to in the Falcon which is too short for the Barra motor . Germany must love Barra rebuilders ( pistons , rods chains , bolts , all after market) Good luck with that cautious rebuild and the good video.
I’m trying to do a build like this but with a vct intech, I gotta say tho that barras definitely have a better bottom end for boosting, I’m scared I’m gonna send a stock rod through the side of the block once it’s boosted😂

I put a 350 big block in my 72 camaro and it makes 800hp without a turbo. I was thinking about putting a turbo on it so i can get a 1000hp. Its just my street car i drive during the summer and i put it up in the fall. That car wouldn't be able to stay on the road in snow and ice.

What models of GM cars is/was that in. We often don’t get the full range because most of the passenger car models simply aren’t sold here. Unless it was fitted to some model of Holden commodore, or was in an Isuzu truck or something like that.

Seem like they will be a very promising swap once people realize that these $300 junk yard engines have serious potential. They make beautiful noises as well.
@The Skid Factory Hey guys, i have a legit question. I see that you did not use a conrod bolt stretch gauge to torque up those ARP rod bolts used in your manly rods. Can you get away without doing that? i'm installing some forged rods fitted with ARP 2000's in an engine im working on so just curious if i need to spend the dosh on a gauge?
That dude has got 20-30+ years experience in building engines. I reckon he could get away without doing some checks based on knowledge and experience. My advice would be to measure everything and ensure your clearances are within their tolerance to be sure but then another part of me just says send it mate, it’s a barra; she’ll be right.
@@Fuaarrkk Yeah i know he is experianced, question is ARP state stretch yet also say if no gauge available then just torque to their specification. Looks like they just did it that way but im sure they test fitted the bearings outside of the engine and torqued/measured to check it if they didnt use a gauge.

I’m sure he would’ve done it as the last thing he wants is to have an engine failure over something that I’m sure he’s done a million times. Best bet is to measure everything mate, try and rent a gauge from an engine builder instead of buying one.
@@Seeeeyaaaa If you plan to whip that engine to within an inch of it's life you better do exactly what ARP says. But for an 800HP build they're not even close to what those studs can do. I've seen them build Barra's a few times, and they always seem to just torque to spec, wait 3 hours and check again. But they sure are diligent with the assembly lube and thread grease. The threads get evenly packed at the entire length.
@@andersjjensen True, i've seen people just torque to spec also. Its tricky though because you don't want to undertorque them and have them too loose and then let go, or overtorque them and push the rod caps out of round which could then alter the rod bearing final measurement. Im just a DIYer trying to hustle few tips and tricks :D

Yes some smoo is added around some water jackets. Studs don’t change the closed tolerances and they are all checked prior.

Can you get away without doing that? i'm installing some forged rods fitted with ARP 2000's in an engine im working on so just curious if i need to spend the dosh on a gauge?
That dude has got 20-30+ years experience in building engines. I reckon he could get away without doing some checks based on knowledge and experience. My advice would be to measure everything and ensure your clearances are within their tolerance to be sure but then another part of me just says send it mate, it’s a barra; she’ll be right.
@@Fuaarrkk Yeah i know he is experianced, question is ARP state stretch yet also say if no gauge available then just torque to their specification. Looks like they just did it that way but im sure they test fitted the bearings outside of the engine and torqued/measured to check it if they didnt use a gauge.
@@Seeeeyaaaa Im sure he did check the stretch and just not show it on film. I’m sure he would’ve done it as the last thing he wants is to have an engine failure over something that I’m sure he’s done a million times. Best bet is to measure everything mate, try and rent a gauge from an engine builder instead of buying one.
@@Seeeeyaaaa If you plan to whip that engine to within an inch of it's life you better do exactly what ARP says. But for an 800HP build they're not even close to what those studs can do. I've seen them build Barra's a few times, and they always seem to just torque to spec, wait 3 hours and check again. But they sure are diligent with the assembly lube and thread grease. The threads get evenly packed at the entire length.
@@andersjjensen True, i've seen people just torque to spec also. Its tricky though because you don't want to undertorque them and have them too loose and then let go, or overtorque them and push the rod caps out of round which could then alter the rod bearing final measurement. Im just a DIYer trying to hustle few tips and tricks :D
