PSP Go Storage upgrade! Install an internal MicroSD to M2 card adapter!

  • The PSP Go is the final iteration of the PSP hardware. It's a great option for emulation and homebrew, but one limitation is its use of proprietary M2 cards, which are a maximum size of 32 gb. On this week's Fix it Friday, we will install a simple modification to allow micro SD cards to be used with the PSP Go!

    Heya! I'm the guy who makes and sells these. Just an update: the bridge (green wire, shown at 05:28) from pins 1 to 10 has recently been found to be unnecessary. I've updated the instructions and the item description on Etsy. Installing that bridge doesn't *hurt* anything, but avoiding it might save some hassle.
    Also, I've gotta admit, it's pretty humbling seeing a video made about this. Thanks! I hope it's still running strong :D

      @AgentMetalKid-ve3if hello, unfortunately Vita memory cards are entirely proprietary, not even M2 micro cards. Pretty much the only way to expand memory beyond one of the official Vita memory cards is SD2Vita. If you're wanting to keep using your cartridge slot, the best solution might be simply to have two Vitas: one for downloaded games, and one for physical media.
      I'm kind of new to Vita myself, but that's what I've gathered thus far.

    Thanks for this video. I ordered the adapter and just finished installing it in to my PSP Go. I love that, with the exception of the inside case trimming, the mod is completely reversible. I actually took the time to mod all 3 of my PSPs today. Now I have time to go play some games for the evening! Thanks again!

    I bought a ribbon cable equivalent of this mod that spares me the soldering work. The site was entirely in japanese so I had a huge language barrier to understand the guide and the translation feature on my browser was not doing me many favors either. It never mentioned needing to bridge the first and last lines on the memory card adapter so perhaps that's what is holding me back from getting it to work with my PSP. Anyway great guide btw!

    • @TheBlackshear
      @TheBlackshear 2 года назад

      @ZubiddyDooDooPop I think I had the mod your mentioning or something similar. It had conductive adhesive at the end of the ribbon cable. You had to cut the dividers on the SD card adapter for it to lay flush. Mine still works somehow.

    Great mod! However, the PSP Go wasn't actually the final iteration of the PSP. That goes to the European exclusive E-1000. It had no Wi-Fi (no loss, as the PSP uses the very outdated WEP security, instead of WPA2-PSK), but it did bring back the UMD drive.

      @@odntht yeah it definitely is easier, though it does seem like a bad idea to leave the m2 slot attached and usable since inserting an m2 at that point could cause serious problems.

      I know how you feel, I bought a psp go but it didn't come with any m2 card. So I had to save up and buy an m2 card over ebay, it was only 8 gb but stupidly expensive. It came from china and I live in middle-east. Of all the psp models I love go most but It is just so annoying to keep changing games by plugging it to a computer. I mean the problem would have been solved if there were 128gb m2 cards. I would even settle for 32 gb m2 cards but they don't even exist. Damn sony for not using micro sd cards like the other models. I'm posting on comments on these videos to see if anyone has taken the time to find a cleaner version of this mod. I'm looking for(and attempting) a solution that doesn't require removing plastics, etc. either by slimming down the profile of the adapter or finding some kind of SD card with the M2 connections integrated. I've taken apart one of these adapters and the M2 to SD card controller board is fairly slim. My approach may be to solder controller board directly to an SD card without any housing, since I much rather damage that than the PSP itself. Has anyone done something similar?

      P.S The “cable” you are talking about is the official PSP Go dock or cradle, which you can usually find on eBay. Beware though, as they are usually REALLY expensive especially for a sealed one. If you want, you can buy PSP Go component cables, which are way cheaper than the dock, but won’t charge your PSP Go, but still outputs to your TV
