I enjoy the midwest (Cleveland at the moment) for its architecture, low cost of living, tons of freight trains, industrial, museums, some really amazing metro parks, different nationalities, and overall character. It does have a decent amount of crime but i have managed to avoid any issues by simply being home at a reasonable time and not trotting through the rough areas.
I agree ., cleveland is my appeal for Ohio at the moment. I’ve lived in Palm Beach FL, Chicago, Buffalo, Boston and visited far more cities. Cleveland is one of my favorite cities ever. The attitude people have for this city; the love, respect, admiration, and loyalty. They Love their browns and do not care if they are going through a losing streak. I read that Cleveland has never had trouble selling tickets for their home games despite lackluster seasons that went on going for years. People still love the Browns and I have so much respect for that . Just like they love their city. Every city that I’ve been to, including Columbus .. The same does not exist. The closest city that may resemble would be Detroit. Not in terms of crime or population decline or whatever else but in terms of love from local citizens. Columbus and their buckeyes are used to winning a lot but when they will lose a game I see people trash the buckeyes who were just cheering before.. I cannot imagine the same fans standing by them if they experience what the browns have. Not true loyalty. Cleveland is definitely thriving and it’s downtown is booming and it’s going under a massive resurgence. The energy and positivity is the best that you can find in Ohio. Downtown Cleveland over downtown Columbus or cincy any day. More things to do And the most densely populated city in the state.
yea the winter is no fun. I do love all the other seasons in southwest ohio. especially summer. love the warm muggy cincinnati nights. everything alive and green. frogs and insects
I love these videos but as a life-long (56 yrs) resident of southern Missouri I have to say, we DO NOT call it Missour'a' and in fact we find it very irritating when people do. And don't judge the whole state by St. Louis and Kansas City. The Ozarks, where I live, are beautiful. Rolling hills, forest, multiple lakes and rivers. I travel for a living and I have seen the world. Yes, I would rather live near the ocean or mountains, but Missouri isn't the worst place to live, not even in the Midwest (thousands of miles of flat cornfields in most of the states).

Medical, car manufacturing and banking. Everyone always has a job. We’ve never really suffered job issues, even during bad times. Great healthcare second to Indianapolis. Our hospitals rank 2 and 3rd in the nation. And we have lots of them. Hey maybe you should do worst Midwest cities. 😂 Btw, we don’t go-for cover for a tornado until it gets a block away. We actually stand outside and watch.
Michigan is such a weird state. It's like being in the twilight zone. Just driving around Southeastern Michigan you can go from slums to white suburbia to actually decent areas driving down the same road. And don't even get me started on the weather.
Have you ever been to Indianapolis in the last 20 years?! It's one of the best capital cities in America. Walkable, interesting shops, attractions and great hotels and sports venues. You really missed the mark on this one, which undermines your overall credibility. Just sayin'.

Eh that's a bit of a stretch. Ours gets the most publicity when it comes to corruption. A lot of neighboring states aren't much better. We have a lot of corruption in Chicago granted. And a lot of that does seem to be due to federal policies on donations and the like. Police wise, I've heard and seen small improvements to deal with our police issue both policy wise (sorta) and people wise I've seen a lot of my college peers going into law enforcement with the intentions to join internal affairs. And don't forget southern Illinois, personally speaking I've seen a lot of nepotism and buddy buddy corruption happen in the smaller towns.
So I wouldn't say it's the "bad" state. Its just the most public with its issues. And it makes sense seeing how it's one of the most populated cities in America even with slight population declines today.
Yet the people in the major cities VOTE Democrat. Pompous city brats need to change their ways and leave the regressive cult. No more welfare section 8 housing and freebies.

Hi ;) I'm European (from Portugal) so this question might sound strange for you guys :) I know the story of the 13 colonies and all the land gained to the west. But I found funny part of the US being called "Midwest" if there is no "Mideast" :D I know it's in the middle of the way to the West, but still I found it funny. Great channel ;) Cheers.
@@BezmenovDisciple Hi ;) Hope my answer is correct. Since 2001 the use and possession of drugs stopped being treated as a crime. Of course, if a person is caught with some kilos that are still a crime. I don't know how much grams for personal use are considered under being considered a crime. To sell it's illegal and a crime. But if you are caught doing drugs (heavy or not) you are treated like a person who needs treatment and not a criminal. If it’s marijuana maybe the Police just say to throw that away or confiscate the drugs and nothing happens. But if it’s the hard ones, you are redirected to a Drugs Dissuasion Committee. So you can be seen and probably being medicated with methadone. The person may be obliged to do some community service or pay a fine. It's not a drug's paradise, but people are by law considered patients, not criminals. I think I'm pretty close to what is the reality here. Cheers ;)
When the Midwest was named “Midwest”, it originally came from the “Northwest Territories” which included Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and some parts of Minnesota. At that time, places like Ohio and Indiana were considered “west” because the rest of the known country was so Eastern such as Vermont, New York and Connecticut. So back in the 1800’s, when your family said you’re “going west” that generally meant Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, because that’s what it meant back then. Obviously now it’s different with actually far west states being established, but it’s more of a time period thing, as well as a cultural thing. Many German immigrants inhabited the midwestern lands and therefore, the Midwest states are culturally closer to each other. Even though Ohio borders, say, West Virginia, it has much more in common culturally with places like Iowa and Missouri.
Nowhere is worse than Illinois, especially if you like freedom. Now that most of the smart people have left the state, the things that used to make it possibly the greatest in the Midwest, like lots of jobs and a strong large economy, are no longer working in its favor. I ask myself every day why I am still here.
I grew up near Dayton....I can confirm it's not a good city. It's up there in drug abuse and human trafficing. However, Dayton does have a great arts institute, as well as orchestras, dance, and theater. There are also a number of great national parks that are absolutely gorgeous. Hocking Hills and Old Man's Cave are some great spots. Ohio is also the most affordable state to live in, just saying.
That doomsday map makes literally no sense. Alaska would be the best state to live in for a zombie apocalypse. They’d all freeze up by the time they got to you in the far north. You could go fishing and hunting for food, Alaska has the highest gun ownership rate in the country. And it’s such a big area that other people would have a really hard time finding you.
Last April, a tornado came through my town in Kansas. Most of us, including me, were outside filming it. Thankfully, no one was killed, but I know some people whose houses got hit. It was cool to hear everyone's experience with it. Tornados can be destructive and ruin lives but are intriguing and can be sort of beautiful.
Nice reference to Benton Harbor, MI. I grew up not far from there. I live in Detroit now and I love it. A lot of people will always bash Detroit but it's a good place to be now. Some things in Michigan do suck, but we have beautiful beaches and so many great lakes. You can't beat watching a sunset on Lake Michigan.
As a transplanted Missouri resident, I can tell you that it is the worst place I have ever lived, and as a veteran, I’ve lived in some awful places. Unless you fish or hunt, there is NO culture to enjoy. The only cities with decent restaurants are Kansas City and St. Louis, if you survive your visit there. I hate it here. It is overrun by poor, uneducated, trash of every ethnicity. Poverty is the norm in every town. This state sucks in every way a place can suck.
Well, the windfarms don't make any money, the state has plenty of coal-fired electric generation plants and the armpit of the Nation called The Calumet Region that still has 3 large basic steel mills in operation and a giant oil refinery that stink up the place.
There are lakes literally everywhere in Michigan. I live next to a fairly small but still good size lake, and about a 5-minute drive down the road, there is another fairly good size lake. They are everywhere. I’ve heard you’re never more than 10 miles from a body of water here. Cant confirm that, but it seems plausible.
Born and raised in Michigan. One thing I love about it here is the fact that it’s surrounded by water, pretty much everywhere. 👍🏾 I’d say your assessment is quite accurate

Hell yeah, best of both worlds. In Chicago you can ice skate outside in the winter and go to the beaches in the summer, and living there is cheaper than LA and NYC!
The Internet is Always Crying, I feel like the west and east has more lazy people because the amount of large cities is greater with more people who do less for this country, when in the Midwest there’s many farmers as well as cities who grow crop to keep the country going, of course there is construction everywhere by here you can see it in the expanding cities that are trying to grow bigger, and we have to put up with the four seasons which can be nice but annoying at times

@@Sle3plessNights I suppose a smart, well traveled person such as yourself recognizes that the same blanket statement might be made for just about any state, city, county, town, hamlet or country, and one's opinion depends entirely upon one's perspective. Cities with seemingly endless variety of activities such as NYC, Paris, London, and states such as California with near infinite variations of topography, climate, jobs, population, and activities, are not uniformly appreciated. From where I sit, Ohio is hardly a music mecca. Ohio is just like any other place and what one makes of it depends on one's attitude.
Apparently Covington is the south though. Kentucky wasn't a highlighted state in the thumbnail. This is why it's goofy to judge regions based on state outlines.
Just stay out of Missouri and Ohio and you'll be fine. Going by crime statistics, anyway.

Most depressed city in the US
Most number of adolescent depression and suicides
Highest number of divorces
Most obese city in the nation
Highest crime in the state now
However, we have the highest job market. Medical, car manufacturing and banking. Everyone always has a job. We’ve never really suffered job issues, even during bad times. Great healthcare second to Indianapolis.

Dakota Ballenger besides back of the woods in Chicago Illinois isn’t bad
The only "bad" state in the midwest is Illinois, and that's more of a chicago/corrupt politician issue, not the people
Eh that's a bit of a stretch.

Cheers ;)
Missouri and Kansas go by the heartland..

It seems weird that Ohio is midwest but it really has a lot going for it. Great economy, low cost of living, cheap houses and beautiful scenery. Outdoor recreation abounds.
I love Ohio, there’s a reason it’s so densely populated. It’s funny they’re #1 in Ohio because when I moved I was flabbergasted how miserable the one I live now is. Tiny 10,000 people cities have grand old libraries, never noticed it only gets worse
Ohio sucks.
"Michigan has a very large coastline, with BOTH Lake Michigan and Lake Superior." And if you look at a map you'll notice a lake to the east, the "thumb" side of the state called Lake Huron.
