What's the advantage of translating the subtitles like this, instead of just using the panel on the right? If you tick "Show original", it shows one panel with the original subtitle from the line you are currently on and underneath you can write whatever you want to substitute the original text with.
It saves you time. If you do it like you say you have to be constantly relistening to the audio to know what it says. Plus, it'd be more like interpreting, and not translating, and I think the second one is easier. You have to think a bit less when you read it, I think it's more comfortable this way.
It's a great software! And these videos are very helpful. But - until now that I am translating a video to Greek - I have noticed at least two issues. 1) when I am at the window translating there's no spellcheck suggestion/correction. I might make a mistake with one or more words, but there's not a spellcheck to know if I have made a mistake. 2) when I am at the window translating and click "end" to go to the end of the line, for my surprise the video plays and there's no way to stop it. So I have to close that window and translate again the subtitles in that line. With those being said, first thing I will do now is support the good work you have done, and give you a motivation to continue contributing. Thanks!
In the way you did it, I’m assuming you end up with the translated file (so in your case only German subtitles), loosing the original english ones you made, is that correct? I’m working on subtitles for my trilingual film, and I want to have closed subtitles of two of these languages that you can switch between, so not both languages in the screen how you did it but more like RUclips or Netflix with a selection. Is it possible to only have one file that can be opened with both language options? Or do you make a separate file for each language? So far I’ve made separate files and am now trying to import them into Premiere to export them all in the same Video file.
This is a really old comment, but I think the tool that you needed was MKVToolNix. You just need to drag the video and sub files and it merges everything into one file. It's called multiplexing. No need for Premiere. Once the file is created you can open it with any video player and you'll have the option to choose which sub track you want.
thanks for the explanation, please, i have a problem, when i embed the subtitles in the video, the video does not contain sound, can you please help me
Instead of deleting the remaining translation, you could cut it, so when you paste into the next line's field, you don't need to remove all the preceding lines, you'd just cut the text after the current line, and so on.
I don't think there's a way to do that just by pressing one button. But you can try putting the translated script on a txt file, separate the lines with Enter and select the whole text and do a very easy Copy and Paste into the program, so them would appear there and they would be separated just like you did on the txt file, after that I think you can select them and change their fonts, size and colors at the same time.
Aegisub only creates the subtitle file. You can select this file while viewing the video, in an application like VLC player. You will need to use other video software to permanently write the subs on top of the video.
I have 2 subtitles from the same movie in different language but the other has a time code that didn't sync wth the movie. Can I copy the time code from the sync one to the other? if it's possible, can you show me how?
Yes, If the video language is Chinese, you can add English subs. If the video language is English, and want to add Chinese subs, this can also be done. You just need to have that font (Chinese) installed on you're computer, and possibly a certain keyboard layout.
i'm getting this really weird bug where i'm unable to paste anything into the translation assistant: right-clicking in the translation field, cut/copy/paste are all grayed out. if i try to use cmd+v (i'm on mac) the video plays the current subtitle, even though that is not the shortcut for it at all. and, of course, nothing gets pasted into the translation field. any idea what might be going on there?
did you find a way to do it? i have a video to translate and i think subtitles are somehow came with the video but i can not find a way to find the text and list them like he shows
It would be amazing and it would save us a lot of time, if that 'Translation Assistant' could automatically translate the text into our preferred language, and let us edit it if it needs to. I think that is possible by using Google translation API.
In Windows Subtitle Edit I open the video, open the original language English.srt, I use the program to translate from english.srt to portuguese.srt, after that I am going to adapting phrases to the sync previously set. 32 characters per line, minimum 1400ms and maximum 5000ms... 1252:Ocidental 23,967 fps. Using wave sound to sync the audio, the video and the subs... I really want a program which do the sabe job as in Windows subtitle edit. I'm new in Linux world! For now, I'll have to use dual boot, Windows 10 and Linux Mint. Until I find a good Linux program.
Once upon a time there was a 39-year-old man who wanted to learn to make subtitles. Start looking, reading. The more he read, the more nervous breakdowns start, then another guide, tutorials. Incredibly stupid programs like AEGISUB, Subtitle Editor, Subtitle Workshop ... Find the Spot program as well. After I installed all the programs and studying, I realized that I have to ask myself a question .... Am I mentally ill, idiot, idiot ???? Or all those who make subtitling programs are stupid ???? The SPOT, AEGISUB, all of those programs is under any criticism, I am still studying USER GUIDES, TUTORIALS and I am getting more and more confused. I wouldn't want to offend unknown people... But in my mind I wished to every team - many very unpleasant things. BECAUSE THEY HUMILIZE US, THOSE WHO USE WHAT THEY PUT ON THE MARKET. How much I hate them !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will tell many people not to use this programs. And I will continue to look for one with which I can make a subtitle...
Amusing that you naïvely assume Google always gives accurate translations, when quite often it _does not_ . Just ask anyone who's multilingual and who has tried out Google Translate or any other machine translation app. Chances are good that they'll tell you they suck. You really should remove this video and re-do it, so as to recommend that one hire a professional translation service, or at least work with someone fluent in both the target and source languages who will help for free. Machine translation apps are *toys* .
I don't know who pissed into your cereals so that you say "jUsT ReMoVe tHiS vIdEo aNd rE-Do iT." Just because he used Google Translate, it does not invalidate the video actually showing how to add translations to your subtitle file in aegisub. How you actually get your translation is for you to decide.

Thanks very much for that - very clearly explained.
Thank you, TJ FREE!

POV: You decided to translate some anime as a member of the Anime translation team in 2009
thanks for the explanation, please, i have a problem, when i embed the subtitles in the video, the video does not contain sound, can you please help me
Brilliant series! Thanks ;)
You're welcome!

It doesn't provide subtitling with background on letter, does it? I need that one
Is there a way to put translated text in separate a column? it would be great to keep the original text seen to the user
Hi! is there a way to translate the entire dialogue instead of line by line?
I don't think there's a way to do that just by pressing one button.
But you can try putting the translated script on a txt file, separate the lines with Enter and select the whole text and do a very easy Copy and Paste into the program, so them would appear there and they would be separated just like you did on the txt file, after that I think you can select them and change their fonts, size and colors at the same time.
It's better to use Subtitle Edit to translate subtitles in stead of translating line by line throught Google Translate
how?
Hi, how can I extract my video from Agisub after I have subtitled it?
Aegisub only creates the subtitle file. You can select this file while viewing the video, in an application like VLC player. You will need to use other video software to permanently write the subs on top of the video.
@@TJFREE CAN YOU SAY WHICH OTHER VIDEO SOFTWARE CAN WE USE TO DO THAT?
@@rochmillot6988 You can use Handbrake ou VidCoder (only with .srt files, as far as I know).
@@rochmillot6988 VidCoder is awesome. 100% free and easy to encode. It has so many options and settings too!
it this app is still work for window 10?
Yes.
@@TJFREE thank you
can you have a fast way to translate the whole file? and not every line
I have 2 subtitles from the same movie in different language but the other has a time code that didn't sync wth the movie. Can I copy the time code from the sync one to the other? if it's possible, can you show me how?
How about if we want to translate chinese hard subs?
Yes, If the video language is Chinese, you can add English subs. If the video language is English, and want to add Chinese subs, this can also be done. You just need to have that font (Chinese) installed on you're computer, and possibly a certain keyboard layout.
@@TJFREE but is it possible if the sub is hard sub (not srt file) sir?
Yes, as long as the font is supported by your system.

Hmm, that is strange. I really don't know whats going on there. It might be worth trying an older/alternative version of Aegisub.
Is there a way to add different languages to an English-sub-titled video using already translated transcripts?
did you find a way to do it? i have a video to translate and i think subtitles are somehow came with the video but i can not find a way to find the text and list them like he shows

Bruh 💀 that is called an example. He does not encourage people to use Google translate.
