    Great video, sir. I bought the CE-19 with my G-90, but I had so many wires - even after I shortened the cables I soldered, there was always a "rat's nest" - so I bought a USB soundcard+cat module from xggcomms ... although the CE-19 worked well with the PC sound card, the xggcomms unit was a better solution for me, and I recommend it over the CE-19 for hams not using the XPA125.

      @@paulhastings3109 Paul, I believe that the "xggcomms Digimode 4" is a different interface box that's similar to the CE-19 which I showed in this video. It's a bit pricier than the CE19 but folks mention that if you use it, you'll have less cables to deal with. 73.

      Thank you for the comment. The Xiegu G90 is indeed a very good radio. It has low current consumption on receive, a very good antenna tuner, and a CW decoder that comes in handy. I would recommend that you also look into the xggcomms digimode-4 as a possible replacement to the CE-19 if you wish to work FT8 mode. It uses less cabling and currently lists for $100 so it should be considered. Best of luck and 73.

    Good video, thank you for making it. It seems to me, and correct me if I'm wrong, that if you used a USB soundcard with one TRRS connector instead of your Logitech adapter with two outputs, you could probably use just one TRS to TRS male to male cable as you show and plug it into CE-19 as you show it. Same setup, just less cables and connectors, at least on the PC side of setup. I think this could work, or do you see a reason why it wouldn't ?

    • @quantumradio
      @quantumradio  2 года назад

      Thank you for the comment. You're probably right in your suggestion. I don't know enough to say that the setup you mention won't work. It may work just fine. I'd say test it out and experiment. My approach was to get these bits of hardware to work. Once they worked, I didn't experiment further. I simply put my cables/CE-19/etc. in a ready bag which lives in my emergency backpack. Just in case! 73!

      @@quantumradio I completely understand, I might try it out and see if it works. I happen to have one very small USB sound card with just one TRRS 3.5mm output. I generally like to minimize the setups to the least amount of components. I'll also 3D print some nice little box for the CE-19, it's too "naked" for my taste.

    Thank you VERY much for this video!! IT clears up a number of questions I had. But I am still a bit puzzled why Xiegu would make the CE-19 kit an "incomplete" kit. It looks like I have to buy some kind of USB sound card thingie and a microphone/audio splitter AND a male to male three conductor 3.5mm cable.
    My laptop has a 3.5mm microphone jack and a 3.5mm stereo audio (headphone) jack. Can I make use of those or do I have to get the USB audio dongle?
    Also, for some strange reason, the Xiegu kit comes with three 3.5mm three conductor male plugs that have three wires hanging out from the other end of the cables. What am I supposed to do with these? Can I just twist the same colored wires together from two of these and use this to connect AF-CON to my headphone 3.5mm jack in my laptop??

    • @quantumradio
      @quantumradio  2 года назад

      Thank you for the comment. I believe that the CE-19 kit was designed to go from the AF-CON port into the two different jacks on your laptop: mike jack & headphone jack. In my case, my laptop has a single combo jack so I opted to split the line so I could use my USB "crossover" or sound card. This way I could get the audio in/out of the laptop using my USB connector. I'd used it with my headset so I knew it worked for audio in/out.
      Again, I don't think that you'd need to use a USB sound card. It was just the way I solved my connection problem.
      Best of luck & 73!

      Thanks for the comment. Changing the INPUT from LINE to MIC is all that I change when going back to using the hand microphone. I also take out the two cables (ACC and CAT control) from the G90 when going back to using the Microphone. Hope that helps and best of luck in your project, 73!

  • @wellnesscoachactivelifesty3708

    Thanks for your video, I see a problem and would like an explanation:
    The plugs to the USB sound card are stereo, aren't they? The Y cable leads to a socket that is 4-pin stereo? What else can't you buy?
    You now plug in a 3-pin plug.
    When I measure that, I only have a connection to the headphones and ground, the micro only has a ground, otherwise no connection.
    How can this work?

    • @quantumradio
      @quantumradio  Год назад

      Thank you for the comment. Yes, the 4pin socket receives the 3.5mm (TRS) male connector and channels AF OUT and AF IN to the proper place in the USB connector. The goal is to get the AF OUT signals into the laptop and the signals from the laptop into AF IN.

      Hello. I just measured the distance from the front of the radio, where the head unit joins the body, to the back guard and it's 7 7/8 inch long. Now the white power plug sticks out the back a bit so when I measured from the head/body juncture to the back of the white power plug, I got 8 1/4 inches. Yea the back guard doesn't protect the power supply plug too well, which is weird. Hope that helps. 73!

You can read & download FLRIG from here: www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Flrig.shtml
      WSJT-X doesn't require VARA but I found it easier to talk to my XIEGU G90 transceiver via FLRIG than directly. Essentially WSJT-X in your PC interacts with a "software radio" called FLRIG and FLRIG does the work behind the scenes to tell your XIEGU G90 what to do. So FLRIG is a middle man between WSJT-X and your G90.
