    Thank you for pushing bite protocol! Not enough people keep one or actually read up on the actual affects the venom will have on their bodys. I got tagged by a squam (bush viper) and had to transfer to another hospital because the first didnt have any that would follow the protocol and kept saying it had to be a rattlesnake that bit me. Ended up meeting a great doctor that specialized in african venom and she was great to me.

      Doctors are the real nightmare - not snakes. ;-) Snakes never pretend to know all while they don´t know shit, they are not arrogant and think themselves gods..... Must have been horrible to have been bitten and not getting the right treatment. Glad that you found a doctor in the end who believed you.

    Brother,you are preaching to the choir! I have said ,at nausium,if you can spend the money to PROPERLY care for the animals you keep,it can be a dog,a cat,a gold fish or exotic venomous reptiles,you have no business keeping them. Anti venom being my pet peeve. Having worked at a large zoos reptile dept,I know the cost for it comes out of that departments budget,and are almost never remembersed for it,and like you say, they might not even have it because zoos don’t keep what they don’t have antivenom for. My facility will be a business,but it’s also going to be my personal collection and I’m going to be spending a ton of money to keep them right,safe,and responsible; to the animals,the public,my staff and my self. It’s so refreshing to see a pro handle and care for these animals the way it should be done,the way I do,and not hot dogging for their video blog or to advertise for their tatoo business,free handling and acting out for the camera. That’s BS!

    Very interesting information. Where is the antivenom produced? I saw spanish words on it and wanted to ask if it is from Mexico or maybe Costa Rica? I once visited an institution where they produce antivenom for export in San José, Costa Rica. At that time they used horses to get the antivenom.

    • @VenomCentral
      @VenomCentral  5 лет назад +2

      I believe the one in this video is produced in Costa Rica or Brazil; in general it varies... depends on the type. There is a website, Thai Red Cross, which carries a lot of the antivenoms I use. Horses is still the gold standard way, tried and tested, how to make antivenom. However there was just research completed by Dr Hans Clevers and he grew snake venom glands as organoids using stem cells, and the organoids actually produce a lot of venom. So we are anticipating that the global snakebite crisis will get some assistance with this scientific breakthrough!

      @@VenomCentral Thank you! Growing snake venom glands - wow, that´s incredible! I hope it works because so many poor people die in Asia and Africa because of lack of antivenom/too expensive antivenom.

    Where do you get your rattlesnake antvenon from?

    • @VenomCentral
      @VenomCentral  5 лет назад +1

      Kristen Wiley, KY Reptile Zoo posted the pdf and a step by step of what to do to get Antivenom. She's helpful and knows the steps, info and how to obtain it..and a big believer like I am, every facility and keeper should stock appropriate amount and species specific (for exotics) in case of an accident. Better to have it and not need it... Iys an overseas order Check for her on her Facebook. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Willy, does anti-venom have a shelf life and if so how long?

    • @VenomCentral
      @VenomCentral  4 года назад +2

      Yes it does have an expiration date, which is marked on the vial. However I've been told personally as well as read many research papers that state if it's stored properly it cant far surpass the date. But I am not the science guy, just the snake guy and my thoughts are that I'd rather have it, than not! I keep all my antivenom refrigerated and tagged for species in separate containers ready to be grabbed in case of emergency. Thanks so much for watching and all your great questions! 🐍💪

    • @chadmiller2224
      @chadmiller2224 3 года назад

      That's why I hate it when people say their are no aggressive snakes just defensive. Granted most of the time they ARE just being defensive but occasionally there are snakes that are just down right aggressive. People that say they aren't haven't seen a warm black mamba in action. Snakes have different personalities just like people and dogs or other creatures.
