Wonderful!!!! It’s been ages since I have eco printed paper. You have inspired me to to get going with it again! I absolutely LOVE the pvc roll! Wow thank you ❤️
Thank you! I saw a demo of this for scarves and decided it could work for paper too. Loved that I got prints on both sides of the paper and that the dyes from one plant reacted with the one behind it to add more dimension.
Thank you! It was a 140lb Italian mouldmade paper that is no longer available. It was smooth enough to be a good writing paper but strong enough for wet media like water color. I think some of the Fabriano papers would work just as well.
I've been playing around with eco dying, marking, avocado dying, blueberry dying, etc lol & this is VERY helpful!! You have some great tips!! Thanks for sharing them with us 😊
First time I've seen your videos and I must say you are amazing, I have learnt so much and I was absolutely fascinated. I've seen so many videos on eco paper printing and they've all said so many different things that you end up being so confused, yours is the one I'm sticking to because it just makes so much sense because you explained it and now I understand. I want to say a huge thank you for this excellent video and I will be a new subscriber😀
Helloooo Sheila! Such gorgeous papers, my dear! 💕 Curious about when you mention using red paper and such to get vivid colors. I rarely use colored paper and have never had an issue getting bright, saturated reds, etc. 🤔 Oh! and that ink!! Haven't tried the acrylic inks yet, in the Folio class, we use just regular distress inks to tint the tyvek spine. Must try some of that ink, it looks fabulous! Loved your comprehensive take on all things paper! 🤗
Nik the Booksmith thank you so much for watching. I use fluid acrylic paint for my marbling. I’m not sure what medium you were using. I did not notice the difference in the Reds myself until I put them side-by-side. What sort of inks or paints are you using for your marbling?
also using fluid acrylics =) Here's a side by side (by side 😄) of some papers in the stash, first two on white paper, last on red. I think why I try to stay away from colored papers (most of the time...I still do like them!) is because like the red paper can muck around with the other color tones. I do like black for some metallics at times. Although, I usually use white paper and go with an over-marbling instead to add the metallics later, they tend to stand out better for me that way. Its all very much trial and error...and then some more error and then a "oh crap..." you know 😄 www.flickr.com/photos/11797984@N04/44725021411/in/dateposted/
Must definitely experiment some more! (awww ...shucks! ;) The only two examples that I photographed with red thrown both early and later (repeating color order) and also combed are the ones linked below. Granted, the top one is more tomato than true red, I figured it wouldn't matter much. Thank you for the info on the book. I have/am reading several (by Einen Miura, Iris Nevins, Diane Maurer-Mathison and Richard J Wolfe) and refer back to them often. I will have to check out their book, too. At some point, as scheduling allows, I would LOVE to take some classes! I had to LOL at the "on the road" comment, will I need groupies??? 😄 I have been contacted by a studio for a weekend retreat class in Scotland next summer, doesn't that sound awesome?? Its on my bucket list to teach a class in person. thank you, Miss Sheila, you're da best, doll! www.flickr.com/photos/11797984@N04/44678135602/in/photostream/lightbox/
Thank you. Alum is a pickling spice to some but for fabric dyeing, paper marbling or eco printing it is a mordant- a substance that helps the paper or fabric hold the color. The purplish color came from the actual plant material and was on both the Canford paper shown in the video and the Mouldmade Velata. If you click "more" below the video I have links for these items.
@@sheilamay758 thank you that's really helpful.. not sure we can get alum here in the UK.. maybe there's a substitute I can use.. the print on the paper is absolutely stunning.. I tried some leaves various colours green and red on some muslin tonight, in a pan with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.. with some metal... Will see how it looks in the morning.. I'm very excited ☺.. thanks again x
@@sperrins595 hi I'm also in UK and this is my first time I've seen this video, I went online and found the allium on eBay if that's any help, confusing bit is there are so many different ones! that I'm not sure which one we need. Beautiful.. love the long sheet of eco printing... what is alum exactly?.. and which paper did you use for the eco grey and purple prints?. Thanks
