    This is the best team I have ever seen and I remember watching their UCL matches in 2011 and asking myself whether there can ever be better football than the one I was watching. I knew that what I was watching was something special that will most likely never be witnessed again. I mean, how on earth could they make fantastic teams under legendary managers look like a bunch of drunkards that are just chasing shadows.

      yes they had two good nights in the two finals vs United but if you do NOT deserve to go through the round of 16, means you are NOT a deserved winner.
      It's like Sir Alex's team was setup to beat all teams in the world except Barcelona. He refused to sit back and play on the counter attack vs Barcelona in a UCL final, which was perfect for Barcelona's tactics. But if Sir Alex had swallowed his pride and used the 2008 semi-final tactics, that 2009 United team would have beaten Barcelona 7 out of 10 times.

And you have to understand the events that happened during that period when Tito was sick, Barcelona lost form I've never seen Barca players give up like that they really felt hurt by what their manager was going through and as you know he later died. When you have someone you love and you know something bad is inevitably gonna happen your mind will never be steady.
      They still won a treble and dominated La Liga and Copa Del Rey for years, nothing really changed Much until Iniesta started to decline infact Barcelona's fall started when Xavi couldn't do what he was doing anymore, and when Iniesta and Busquets too fell off Messi's numbers reduced too even under Pep they would have struggled.

    The most important person in this story is not mentioned even once. And that is Johan Cruijff. JC is the spiritual father of ALL this. Guardiola had his greatest success as a player under Cruijff. When Guardiola had loads of questions about the Dutch School, he made sure Pep would always share a room with Ronald Koeman, so he could get some answers. It was Cruijff who reformed Barcelona's academy. All youth teams were required to play the same system. Look how many players from the Barcelona academy Pep used. It was at Cruijff's recommendation that Pep was installed as manager (even of the B team earlier on), just like Rijkaard before him. And Pep's ideas about how the game should be played are basically Cruijff's, with some refinements and modernisations. But still basically Cruijff's.

    • @saltyfootball

      We hear you! We do want to make a video detailing Cruyff's life and his managerial nous, and especially the Barca dream team.

    • @AboubacarSiddikh
      @AboubacarSiddikh Год назад +3

      @@saltyfootball That's basically the eighth main chapter of his career. First came his years as a player with Ajax, immediately telling the older players were to walk/run. The role of Rinus Michels is usually vastly overrated abroad (speaking from Holland). The main thing Michels taught Cruijff was discipline. Not football. Total Football started with Cruijff (in response to the then dominating Catenaccio), not Michels. In this period, he also started playing for the Dutch team. (2). Then went to Barcelona as a player (3). Then the world cup of 1974. Again, Michels' role is overrated abroad. Michels needed Cruijff in Ajax, Barcelona, Dutch team, and in Washington. Playing the other side of the Atlantic (4), return to Ajax (5), then play for Feyenoord for one year and winning the double in 1984 (6), then becoming Ajax coach (7) and only then becoming Barcelona coach (8). And as such, Michels blocked Cruijff becoming the coach for the Dutch team twice, for the world cups of 1990 and 1994, because he was afraid Cruijff would surpass Michels' achievement of winning the Euro 1988, with nearly all key players at some point having worked with or under Cruijff. So that Cruijff never coached the Dutch team, is entirely because of Michels' jealousy. Later on, Laporta was Cruijff's personal lawyer and friend and he won the election as Barca president backed by Cruijff. At Cruijff's recommendation, he appointed Rijkaard with his assistant Henk ten Cate. (Both had one Dutch parent and one parent from Suriname btw). Won the champions league, Barcelona's 2nd. Then Guardiola, who had been in charge of the B team at Cruijff's recommendation, now became head coach, again at Cruijff's recommendation. Because Laporta basically dd what Cruijff told him to do. (Unfortunately, during his second period as president, Cruijff is no longer there. I think Koeman would have been treated very differently by Laporta if Cruijff had still been looking over his shoulder.) Anyway, don't rely on wiki doing reasearch.

    I was in the stands in Valencia in the SPanish kings Cup final against Real Madrid that FC Barcelona lost in the 103 min. The refereeing was atrocious, completely pro Real Madrid and against FC Barcelona. Villa, Pedro and others were routinely kick and provoked while the ball was far away and the referees turned a blind eye. Also FC Barcelona had a goal disallowed by an offside that wasn' t .
    Real Madrid was the team of the State and power and the referee had instructions to favour Real Madrid. After that day, I would never travel into Spain to watch FC Barcelona in local competitions. Only I would travel to Europe (from London where I live) to watch Barça in the Champions League were refereeing was neutral and acceptable.

      This was a video on Pep's Barca covering his 4 years there, so mentioning Bayern that did it 10 years after was beyond the scope of this one. Maybe in future we'll do one on Bayern as well.

      Inter Milan beat Barça due to a goal that was offside and the help of a volcano in iceland that closed the air space. I did the trip from London to Milan by bus, 23 hours via Paris. FC Barcelona players also had to do the trip to Milan by bus , 12hrs on the road. That affected their performance.
      In Barcelona the referee disallowed a goal by Bojan at the last minute that would had meant Inter Milan defeat and Barça progressing to the final. The referee signaled "handball". The TV repeat didn't show a handball prior to Bojan scoring from outside the area.,
