I will be following along like so many others. After 8 months of cancer treatment left me debilitated, I began a strength training program 1 year ago. But I want to use my whole body rather than individual-muscle machines so I will be watching closely and taking in all of this good advice. Please thank your parents for their willingness to let us come along on their change-journey. So very important to us all! And thank you for posting this experience for us all to learn from. I'm in!! 🙂
This channel is exactly what I was searching for. I am 66 yrs old and I fell of a ladder . I am ok now but my muscles are very weak from laying in bed from pain for a month. I really appreciate this.
This is So Wonderful!!!! I imagine these were not sedent people if they have made it to their 80s and can start this now without much hindrance from disease ! Hard workers!!!! It would be wise for those of us who are younger to keep some hard work in our lives and not always use conveniences like a shopping cart and wheelbarrow. There are times of course when a load is too heavy to carry so of course we use them then. But the extra work of carrying groceries, moving plant pots etc can be really good for maintaining our strength if we keep those jobs in our lives and don’t outsource them. You really really miss your strength once you’ve lost it - with it often goes your independence. Good on these folks and daughter as well for shifting towards this priority. Truly heartwarming story!! B🎉❤🎉❤🎉
I'm 63, fine done strength training but realise that I need more, so I've joined a rehabilitation gym. First day was yesterday and I loved it. My parents, both deceased now, were really weak and I'm determined not to be like that. So in awe of your parents. What a brilliant idea. Best wishes to them both.
Awesome!! Kudos to your parents! Imagine if this was a normal thing for elderly people to do, or even better if these habits were engendered into society from a young age that were carried into later life. The reduction in suffering would be off the charts.
Hi Clare, I love the way you care for your aging parents. It shows what a lovely person you are.❤ I am looking forward to following their journey…. Best of luck to you all! 😍
Loved this, Clare - I really need it too as I have issues with my bones (osteoporosis). I think it's from a vegan diet for a number of years. Trying to rectify it now with diet, supplements and exercise. Can't wait to see how things go after a few months. Look forward to the update in 6 weeks. How nice is that trainer! Might I say I was admiring your Mum's outfit the entire time - love the white trousers & long cardi. ♥🥰
Aww. Sorry to hear you’re dealing with osteoporosis Val. I have someone on the channel in a couple of weeks who has partially reversed hers with lifestyle so watch out for that one. My mum will be delighted that you were admiring her outfit!! ❤️
Osteoporosis/osteopenia is caused by insufficient significantly hard use of your bones and muscles. Your bones build bone ONLY when the muscles call for more and harder use. Astronauts in space return to earth with osteoporosis after only a few months in space. And they are immediately put on an intense exercise/strength training program to reverse it after return to earth. Think about that. Elephants, giraffe's, buffalo, zebra, etc eat a plant-only diet and they do not develop osteoporosis. Why? because they use their bodies. Even bedridden children and those with physical disabilities develop osteoporosis. One MUST use their bodies to prevent osteoporosis or recover from it. Science shows us that eating protein without also intense exercise will not build muscle - the body simply converts the extra protein to fat. The same with osteoporosis. Eating dairy and protein will not build bone if one continues to sit on their ass.
Its a pity that centres for the elderly do not organize these sort of classes with specialist trainers..Most elderly would not feel comfortable in a gym and alot of trainers are not knowledgeable about health issues the more mature suffer from.
Great determination and energy! Kudos to Chris in how respectful he is to them in his language. People can learn a great deal from him. Didn’t talk down to them or snicker. I learned a lot from this too. Looking forward to updates!
❤ thank you I sent this to my mom… Who will be 81 in a few months… We’ll see how that goes. She doesn’t have some of the issues that you speak about, but I feel like all this can do is help her to take a little interest in fitness and fingers crossed it will.❤️
thank you Claire this is so inspiring, I looked up the full test you mention and the booking is at The Clive Arms Ludlow do they have a clinic it's a Boutique Hotel not what I expected any info on this before I commit would be helpful thanks Jenny x
Hi Jenny. My mum and dad also had the assessment done at a hotel because they do mobile clinics around the UK. They run blood tests and there’s a machine that does all kinds of measurements so it wasn’t really what we expected either but then they got a very comprehensive report that gave us a great picture of their current health and metabolic status. Hope that helps x

@@g.e.boroush5176 thank you for this 🙂 I did walk a lot but obviously not enough weight training (I did it intermittently over the years)
