I havent welded pipe since i was 21. Im 27 as of thursday and havent welded but 4 coupons at the house. I had a weld test for AC CORP saturday. It gets bent monday and i believe i passed already strictly from watching your videos. This job is gonna massively improve my family's quality of life. Thank you for everything you do for our community bob. Youre the man, hope to meet you one day and thank you properly!
Bob I'm fairly new to your channel and I have enjoyed and learned from your presentations. I'm retired and didn't think I could learn anything new, but you changed that outlook. Thanks for your time and effort. Great job!
i totally agree, camera angles rock and these new angles are so helpful. Bob, your welding techniques inspire! thanks for the great job and even improving your already good work!
Some of the best I've seen. I just wish my own eyes were that good when I weld with my everlast stick welder. I've gotten to the age where I think I need cheaters now to see the puddle properly.
Damn you Americans have it easy with your fancy 6010 rods, here in Scandinavia we run 7018 all the way using a remote control in one hand. Bob you are a savage either way buddy, great job.
buenas tardes soy de Venezuela pero vivo en chile desde hace cincos años soy soldador multiproceso sus videos son muy buenos he aprendido con sus consejos y la practica de todos los días lo felicito
Being able to actual see the weld burn through the camera lens helps to visually harness control on your movement and what to look for puddle wise, tremendous quality. Great video thank you. First 6G test ever in 6 hours... Can't tell I'm nervous at all huh 😂
really great recording of the weld!!! awesome weld too, I just started school for welding and I am really learning a whole lot from just watching your videos!!!
workwillfreeyou uphill testing is a lot of refinery work processing. You will find 6010 uphill in refineries. Some say 6010 uphill provides more strength. I don’t know if I ageee with that. Mostly everything pipeline all downhill work.
Don't see why being left-handed would be a problem, other than someone having personal issues about 'oh NO, not what I'm USED TO, different from ME!'. Maybe need a grinder with the handle on the opposite side, big whoop. There would be some welds having a leftie would be very helpful for (left corners and such). Learning to be good with both hands will be helpful for welding into corners, around pipes, etc.
Another great video Bob and great cameraman shots. You've done your time and I can truly relate to the one knee down pain. You need to get a nice knee pad that lays on the ground, covered with some blanket, makes a world of difference. Also have one of your crew get you a small fan to keep air on you in the summer heat, again you've done your time, now be comfortable while your teaching, just my 2 cents. Thanks for the great instructions.
I'm currently enrolled at a welding school and I have had 0 issues on any positions, but this 6g is killing me! Failed both guided bend test attempts and cert test😒. Definitely going to be trying to take your tips, we are also on 6 inch schedule 80 as well.
For you apprentice pipe fitters out there here is a little thing that may come in handy. Now everyone knows that the take up of a 90 degree pipe elbow 1 1/2 times the diameter thus a 4 inch pipe takes up 6 inches but some fitters have to look in the blue book for"takes up" on 45 degree elbows. No need.Use this simple method in your head, say its four inch.Start out with 4 next half of that and so on.Then Add the second and fourth number.Thats the take up.Example 4,2,1,1/2.Use 2 and 1/2 The second and fourth numbers. The take up of a 4 inch 45 Elbow is 2 1/2 inches.Works for all sizes. Also a experienced fitter know that when you weld a 90 elbow it becomes a 92 degree elbow from the heat.If it has long legs it amplifies the amount it is off in the field. Therefore when you fit it together to be tacked put a wider gap on the inside of the elbow. If you are welding it yourself you know how much bigger you can make it. Otherwise you may be off quite a bit on say a 15 ft run.Now if it is off you still can fix it with heat from a rosebud.Heat up the outside of the bend very hot ,them when you put cold rags on it it will bend backwards further than it was before. This is how welders used to deal with piping going going to pumps with brittle cast iron housings to relieve stresses before there were flex pipe spools .
You go a long way "around the barn" with that 45 degree fitting take out. How about shortening that up by multiplying the pipe size by 5/8ths? I was a young squirt as a pipe welder when my fitter showed me that old method. I looked at it and asked him why not just multiply by 5/8ths. He swore to me that it wouldn't work on every size pipe. It does. . Also, that stuff you wrote about the 92 degree--------------------if you put strong tacks on fitup and welded from the inside towards the outside of the fitting, it will never draw. If you are working high quality piping, such as nuclear code welding, that rose bud stuff and such is illegal.
To me Bob is the ultimate best welder everrrrrrr.. the smoothest, most awesomest welds i've ever seen..truly beautiful..so beautiful it can make many a grown welder cry in admiration...i mean, it's extraordinary, and yea I got the feeling that Bob with his modest self will just shrug it off and say..: hey, anyone can do it with good practice and technique but truth is,,, no Bob they can't..not the way you weld, they can't..a pal and i was talking the other day about getting into welding and I said. dude ya wanna learn welding, then learn from a true master.. go on you tube, type up Bob Moffet and learn everything he says..
could you go over body positioning? I'm having a bit of trouble with my cap and it's just because I'm not comfortable. think it's more so on cap from different angles to prevent undercut
Tbh I’ve been welding for a while now and When I was learning we always got taught abc (always be comfortable) but that’s like finding a needle in a hay stack when you’re in the field. For beginners I would just prop your non dominant elbow and use you’re fingers to steady you’re dominate welding hand. Pretty much the go to. But and the end of the day 90% of the time you’re gonna feel out of comfort
Thank you for this lesson. I still in trade school and were using smaw with 6013 rod only. I hope you can make some videos on 6013 oh how to weld on flat position, vertical up, overhead. Much appreciated

You camera man first run actually got the nice shimmering pool on the first go, the redo di not come out but it was cool to see it happen captured on camera. Thanks
that was great i like to close my gap use a lighter land i the field that speeds things up. i drag my root. hot pass with 7018 feel like it is cleaner, and stronger. that machine runs smooth. i was also a aws cwi. arc strikes are not aloud in are code the grinding has to be kept to starts and stops and feathering tacs, on tests. great job that should help people. the thing i would say is every welder is a little different have to do what works for you.
Can you explain some uses and practical applications for some of the more esoteric welding rods, like xx14, and xx16? They seem to be pretty popular here in Europe (Scandinavia specifically) for pipe roots, whereas cellulosic rods are almost impossible to come by unless I special order them. And maybe do something on any other more specialty/out there/rarely used carbon steel rods that don't typically see much use if that's possible to get a rundown on, just for curiosity's sake?
Hi, you were running 1/8" 6010 for your 2 root passes. First one with no oscillation, and second you were oscillating. When you went to the 7018 passes were you using 3/32" 7018? Also were you allowing the pipe to cool between passes? Thank you Christian
I'd like to see an entire video on just ensuring a good even tack up of pipe and structural tubing with open roots no inserts. I can't do it reliably to save my LIFE

Bob, have you done any 2” sch40 carbon videos? 6010 root 7018 rest of the way out. I’m having trouble on my caps on 6g and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I just passed my 2” sch40 6g tig test and next is the stick on 2” and I need some pointers. My cap keeps “sagging” to the low side.

Best presenter ever on the basics of welding. I'm watching this six years after it was first aired. Still the best.
same,I just enrolled on a welding school and we just started last week.
Thats some of the best Camera shots of a weld I have ever seen. Thanks
Bob I'm fairly new to your channel and I have enjoyed and learned from your presentations. I'm retired and didn't think I could learn anything new, but you changed that outlook. Thanks for your time and effort. Great job!

looks good Mr Bob. The camera angle on your weld camera was set perfectly. on one of the 7018 passes I could see the droplets forming the puddle.
I noticed that too. Great camera shots
Some of the best I've seen. I just wish my own eyes were that good when I weld with my everlast stick welder. I've gotten to the age where I think I need cheaters now to see the puddle properly.

Camera man should be REAL proud of that 10:55 arc shot!
William Wescott he would give Jodi a run for his money.
I wish it was slow-mo just to watch the weld metal drip into the puddle. A1 stuff

Thank you Bob. Please discuss 6010 uphill vs downhill. I believe the pipeliners union entrance test is all downhill.
workwillfreeyou uphill testing is a lot of refinery work processing. You will find 6010 uphill in refineries. Some say 6010 uphill provides more strength. I don’t know if I ageee with that. Mostly everything pipeline all downhill work.
Pipeliner is 6010 root downhill. 8010 out all downhill
@@TundraCamburg would you say uphill is for structural, downhill is for flexible?
@@DatBoi-mo9vc downhill is just for speed. 6010 runs just as well up or down. Up puts a heavier root in
your a great pipe welder bob, those passes went in there really nice and hell yea camera guy has his stuff together..thanks Bob!
jeremy doblinger I used to be WAY better in my younger days.....
I was afraid I would never see anybody that was left-handed welding, I thought I was the only one.
Tekoa, I´m left hand and try for a time weld with the right too, need practics for training the mind and hand. latter is like just your good hand.

I got yelled at everyday when I was learning because I would practice lefthand. Now I'm a pro in any position with either hand. It makes life easier..
