Much better then music they're making today. Don't get me wrong. I really love Bon Jovi still, but it's just opinion. :) This song has much rock soul. I can't feel so much soul of rock in today's songs. :) Sambora have done a great job there! Please, thumbs up for Bon Jovi, for this song and rock and roll! :)
Brilliant. Just brilliant. Love that concert. The first two albums were some of the best stuff they have done. Well, 10x what they have made since 200, anyway.
REVIEW OF THE BON JOVI SONG 'SILENT NIGHT' FROM THE ALBUM 7800' FAHRENHEIT. REVIEW BY DANIEL THOMAS ANDREW DALY: (This is my ninth review of songs from 7800' Fahrenheit, and the prior eight reviewed in order were 1) Secret Dreams, 2) King of the Mountain, 3) Always Run to You, 4) (I Don't Wanna Fall) To the Fire, 5) The Price of Love, 6) The Hardest Part is the Night, 7) Only Lonely & 8) In & Out of Love.) Silent Night. It's that ballad on the album, which I always thought could have been a big hit if it had caught on. Alack, alas, that was not meant to be, but it doesn't detract from the quality of the song. Ballads were a big part of 80s Rock, especially Hard Rock, and Bon Jovi did the best of them. This early offering is perhaps the purest in many ways, very from the heart of Bon Jovi on the core issue of relationships, and relationship troubles. A familiar theme. It's about a love they used to have, and that point, in a silent night, were their love died. A silent night, were few words were spoken, and they learned to accept that what they had was gone, and it would never be the same again. The video is pretty special, and the strength of this third single from the album is that it has a strong video, which deserves to be seen. Only Lonely has a story to the video, and there is something of a story here also, but not so much of a movie. But its a dramatic video, which fits the song well. It is gentle, and lovely, and mellow - and sounds great on CD. And it comes from that desperate heart we find so much on this album, were the band is yearning to show its life, heart and passion. It's purity. Musically its a quality song. Obviously a stronger one on the album, thus the choice to be released as a single, and while it never really caught on, there are growing fans in the Bon Jovi world who discover this hidden gem all the time, again realizing the truth that life didn't begin with Slippery When Wet. They had an earlier manifestation. It's a love ballad - quite simply that. It doesn't pretend to be anything different, and it has the typical stylings of sound from the era, and, to me, a quality I was surprised at when I first bought the album on tape cassette. It was surprising to find such a good track. Such a decent offering, which had failed to peak. The keyboard intro is great, and when those drums and guitars crash in, its an epic intro to a strong track. Dramatic? Very. But would you expect anything less from this band? Jon's voice developed over the years, as singers voices usually do, and get deeper and broader, but he's in good form on this song. It's the early energy of a heart and soul looking to be that rock and roll kid it has dreamed about since the mid 70s. It's all his passion and knowledge of love and affairs of the heart coming through, trying to show the world what Bon Jovi were made of, and that they had music worth listening to. The solo in the middle by Richie is again a classic, and he has a long list of those. One thing I have noticed about Richie Sambora solos is that they are usually very melodic and have a strong tune of their own, not simply being guitars getting off in a heavy metal fix, but genuine solos of quality work, which work well with the song being sung. Silent Night is no exception in this regards. I love the song, always have, and I give it a solid 10 out of 10, and vote it just about the best track on the album.
