Is it just me or does anyone else here wish we could just go back to being 18. The best memories of my life were all shared with a Bon Jovi song! The other day my kid said to me "Mom I'm gonna take a picture of you just sitting there with that big smile on your face while you watch your Bon Jovi video." I didn't even realize I was smiling, I guess it's just an instant reaction when I see my favorite classic Bon Jovi videos. Love this song!
Omg Richie is awesome as a singer and guitarist. Fell in love with him in 1984 and still love him now. Sorry you jon fans but Richie is the total package. Long live the king of swing 💖❤️❤️💖🍾🍾
RIP Alec, you. It’s amazing. 11 year old me could never have guessed that 47 year old me would one day sob like a baby to this song, because I lived it.
That's too bad. I did not know that. RIP Alec. ✝ Well, we all have the songs that will make us sad. Sometimes the ROLLING STONES album "Flashpoint" (1991) makes me sad. My father listened to THE ROLLING STONES a lot. And he died suddenly and unexpectedly. I know even BON JOVI doesn't like this CD 📀. But it's my favorite.
One of the best songs of the album! This song should've been in their Greatest hits! I don't know why people, or even they, don't like this album... I think this is a great album and the fact that it wasn't as popular as others just means that people wasn't ready for what BJ was meant to become... a greater band than the band they already are... Long live BJ!!!
7800, was a truly underrated album. Some really great songs. 7800 & Bon Jovi really laid the ground work for Slippery When Wet. Binge Listening to those three albums in order, is like binge watching the original Star Wars Trilogy.
When I saw him live he came out over the middle of the crowd and sang this song to his grandmother who was kept by the soundboard. It was really touching. He was always a very classy performer.
"Don't cry because it ended, smile, because it happened." -Dr. Seuss I was broken hearted listening to this on repeat in 1993, because "my first true love ended". But hey, it happened, and for that, I'll be forever grateful.
Ahhhh.... memories. My good friend was dumped by her boyfriend in high school. She was crushed. I sat by her side as she cried on my shoulder. All the while this song was playing on her cassette player over and over and over again. I’m in my 50’s now, as was she. Sadly, she passed away last year of a heart attack. We kept in touch throughout these many decades. RIP Christina. I’ll play this tune in your honor, remembering that night. That Silent Night. When you felt you were alone but I was there to console you after losing your first true love. ❤️❤️❤️
I can still remember the night the first girl I ever truly fell in love with broke up with me. Sitting out in the dark in park behind my house at 2 AM, smoking a joint, crying my eyes out while this song played in my walkman on my cassette tape. Those were the good ol' days before real life took over and I had to grow up. Awesome song then, awesome song now.
I got in a big fight with my girlfriend, and as she turned to walk away, I started singing this song. I brought tears to her eyes, and she forgave me and we're still together. I can thank this song for that
So yeah, I bought this cassette back in what '85? just digging this tune and "In and Out of Love", and I still love this tune today at 54. The keyboards here are incredible.
My favorite song.. When I was 17 his posters were plastered on my room. I went to every concert..80's were there best times..I love having the cassette tapes, I'd sit in my room with pad and paper to write down the words to the songs, you could press play, pause, write, play again.. Then I could memorize all the songs by heart 🤣
Bon Jovi is a band, not just Jon... You may have had "his" posters (of Jon) on your wall, but the band was five members strong to create the music they did.
@@terriemathis8391 your choice of wording made you sound oblivious to the fact that they're a band. Many many many people say "him" or "he's a great artist" and it drives me up the wall. Fair enough if you had photos of Jon on your wall, as long as you've always been aware they are a band, even from age 17. Sort of how I find Hayley Williams of Paramore not only talented as a singer, but attractive in my eyes, I'll never let that prevent my awareness of Paramore being a band
Hard to believe nearly 40 years have passed. I spent many hours through the 80s and 90s watching these Bonjovi video classics. Life a just not the same any more as it was then.
Just takes ya right back! To go back to those days and be young again. We didn't know what we had, when we had it! I miss being 17 in '85, Runnin all over the place seeing our fav bands playin live! Probably one of the best songs from the early days... This song is completely underrated and I don't know why! The lyrics are pretty good, the instruments are played very well...
This song is just awesome. A truly excellent rock ballad in every sense. For some reason, Jon almost disowns the LP 7800 degrees Faranheit. In my opinion, it is not their best LP, but one of their best. And so, this song doesn't get played anymore. My favourite Bon Jovi song is "Wild In The Streets" & this is a close 2nd. Great band & great guys. I hope Sambora can get back on board again soon!

Would love to hear it live someday. Always seemed a deeply personal song from a young man going through a bad break up (at that time) with his future wife. Never Say Goodbye was the aftermath of the break up, and Living in Sin, the reconnection. A great trilogy of real songs that meant something to him. It's a pity that they haven't written like this in a while.
That is interesting that this song may be well about Dorothea and their initial break up. I had often thought this too, but then thought it probably isn't. Also what you say about N.S.G & L.I.S. - is this something that Jon has stated somewhere or an observation. All makes sense to though?!
Aus80sRockRadio I have heard them all say that the recording of 7800 was heavily impacted by the break up of several of their romantic relationships at that time. Even Tico, whose marriage had recently ended, co-wrote a song on that record, if memory serves. I've also heard Jon say that when he 'went back to the circus' after the comparative failure of the first record, that Dorothea 'wasn't happy about it' and didn't follow. Sounds like an amicable, but sad, break up. Almost certainly what this song is about. NSG and LIS are just my own observations. The theme of the songs ties in with what was going on in Jon's life at the times of their writing. I did hear Richie say that it was he who insisted that NSG go on Crossroads though. Jon didn't want it on there. LIS just sounds very true to me. Jon and his wife are from Italian and Irish Catholic backgrounds. Their parents were born in the 30s or 40s. It is very likely that they objected to their children living together without marriage. The closest I heard Jon come to commenting was to say he got a lot of shit from the industry and from family when he married her in Vegas, but (rather bitterly I thought) 'it was nobody's business but ours.' Unfortunately his songs don't contain such personal reflections any more. He's a more private person than he was. Richie still writes from that perspective, but we all know the problems there. Ideally, I'd love to see Richie back in the creative process as an equal partner. As well as musicianship, he brings a lot of soul and truth to their songs. But given his work ethic of late, I can understand why Jon may not agree. In that case, maybe Dave should be given a crack at writing. We all know he's able to. It's just a question of whether he could write his own words, rather than those of a character.

Absolutely a great Bon Jovi song to share with your friends who have been in a silent night feeling lonely and think there is no love in the air but there is you just have to put yourself out there
I had never really heard this very early stuff. Back in the 80s, I was in my mid 20s in college, MTV played nonstop. After the smoke clears
When it's down to you and I
When the sun appears
And there's nothing left but good-byes
We'll just turn and walk away
How could we let it end like this
Just turn and walk away
Should we seal it with a kiss
It's too late
Now you're out and on the run
It's too late
Held up in love without a gun
Silent night
We hold up our candle light
Silent night
The night our love died
No words to say
And we're both too tired to fight
Just hold me close and don't let go
It was all so simple when
You were to be queen and I'd be your king
I guess those dreams got lost
Cause baby you're still you and I'm still me
Now letting go
It's always the hardest part to fight
When we both know
We're just two more victims of the night
It's too late
Too late to wonder why
Much too late
To save a love that's died.
Silent night
We hold up our candle light
Silent night
The night our love died
No words to say
And we're both too tired to fight
Just hold me close and don't let go
Just hold me close and don't let me go
After the smoke cleared
It was down to you and I
When the sun appeared
There was nothing left but good-byes
Silent night

Also think this is an underrated song. Brilliant like all his work
Underrated BJ song, from a forgotten underrated album.
Agreed
this song makesme feel like throwing my homework in the sky putting on my leather jacket, putting on aviators and just kicking back on a hill in the 80's
Do it!!
I remember on the SWW tour in '87, Jon was hoisted to a small stage at the back of the Spectrum (Philly) and played it acousticly
Same for the January 1987 show in Denver. This song would be replaced in the set list later in the tour with Never Say Goodbye.
This song still gets to me.
Michele Lee 2019 me too, and It always will.
Youre very sensitive
Joseph Shelden glad people are still very sensitive !
@@josephshelden8691 this song is very sensitive to me as well
This band is some kind of charisma.
THEY MADE THE 80S ROCK
The 80s will never happen again, it's to bad anyone else could feel that era.

The guitar solo sounds like a sax solo.....Mr. Sambora: RESPECT.
This is an amazing song, it's sad that they never play it live, this song reach the hearts....this song is a masterpiece to me. Bon Jovi forever.
They played this live in Japan in 1985.

Greatest decade for music. Back when we were beautiful.
I had never really heard this very early stuff. Back in the 80s, I was in my mid 20s in college, MTV played nonstop. And I was not at All a fond of any of it {particularly Bon Jovi} but I have seen the error of my ways and am actually going g back and listening. It's pretty good stuff. Lost Highway was the al um I cut my teeth on.
Man, I loved this song and now to see the towers in the background. Silent Night indeed ❤
Just as good now as it was then!
This was before they hit the big time, true lovers here only...
My first album I played on repeat my nanan bought it me. this song was my breakup song for first boyfriend. ohhhhhh the tears 😢
Bon Jovi’s very best ballad

Comparto la misma opinión de que stevan, son unos genios,el único estúpido que se alejo de bon jovi en estos últimos años fue sambora, este nabo sin bon jovi no lo hubiera conocido nadie !!!
I agree that this Bon Jovi song is clearly underrated.

The 80’s will never be outdone!
LA MEJOR CANCION DE BON JOVI A MI PARACER, LA ESCUCHE CUANDO ERA UN MUCHACHO Y AUN ME GUSTA COMO ESE DIA
He definitely nailed that melodic classic "New Jersey Sound"....Bruce Springsteen, Little Steven, John Cafferty, Southside Johnny, etc....
what an uderrated song. on of their best for sure!
Let’s take a moment of appreciation for not only Jon’s hair, but also his arms.
Hes soooo goodlooking here
