Great tutorial. Just replaced this part in my Golf GTI Mk6. Cost $38 for the coupling and an hour of my time. Saved me a couple hundred dollars, cheers mate!
Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Wasn't so smooth sailing for me though. Golf 6 GTI, 2011, dsg, replaced both heater connectors. I broke the breather hose trying to replace these couplers. The breather hose requires some pressing on the tab to release. Getting these couplers to fit requires some effort. I couldnt get them to fit on the heater core pipes. The trick that helped, put the couplers in hot water then fit them.
I’m having this same issue. You just ran it under hot water and it snapped on? When I go to put the coupler on it doesn’t go all the way in and the metal wire doesn’t click into place
This man is a legend! Could see the coolant leading from my car but wasn't sure what all would have to be replaced. See this video of the exact same problem and only $20 later she's running great 🚗 the screw for getting the plastic bit out of the hose is great
What a great video. I just had this happen to my A3 8P and noticed the coolant spilling out of the rear of the engine with white smoke everywhere. Turns out it was just this. Thanks for this detailed guide! This car has been a nightmare to own with all of the plastic parts in the engine bay.
Good comment to Audi about saving 50 cents and letting you break down on the side of the road. Have a 2015 Passat TDI SE, and I keep thanking VW for saving their 50 cents with plastic heater hose parts, all the while leaving me broken down a number of times now. But to be honest, VW is brilliant; I'm not sure how on Earth they could make anything even more cheaply? It really does take a lot of engineering prowess to actually make something as cheap as they have. Kuddos VW!
Super great video. Thanks for showing us, now I feel much more confident on doing this myself. Really makes a enormous difference in been able to do it myself
Your a legend bro. i hope its as easy as what my vw mk5 golf that i was working on i had to take the rocket cover off just to get at the hoses it was a big job but nothing major.
Thank you! Had this happen to the lower hose connector on my MK6 GTI 2011. The plastic barb snapped right off while i was driving and i stopped at a stop sign, and my engine is smoking!
Hi Joel, no the coolant does not need to be fully drained. You will probably have lost a lot of coolant though, so make sure you top it up with the correct specification coolant! Cheers Drew
Can I block both off to be able to drive the car? Summer time here dont need the heater. If possible what is the patch fix until I can get the part? Thx
Hi Mate, the issue that you have is that small barb to the small tube has deliberately been put in by the VW/Audi engineers to bleed the cooling system. So by bypassing the heater core as we used to do in the old days you simply then don't have the bleed mechanism to get rid of any air pockets in your cooling system and if you do have trapped air in the system your temperature gauge may not work. Note - I am told that some people temporarily screw in a screw into the hole where the small barb breaks off just to get home, but do this at your own risk! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Thank you kind Sir! Was able to get the part in the morning and had it installed in 10 mins. It took a lot longer to get the Intake piping back on. I must have rushed it cause I feel vibration in the clutch. So something is banging somewhere. LOL Awesome videos!
Great video, Sir. I was wondering if you had any ideas of freeing up a seized quick disconnect just like the one you replaced. My wife's did exactly the same thing. I pulled the spring clamp, but my fitting is frozed solid after 17 years. I cannot tell, but are the heater core inlet and outlet plastic? I do not want to break the heater core. Thank you so much.
Hi Mate, yes you have a dilemma here as you don't want to break the other plastic fitting. Suggest perhaps you could try temporarily putting a screw in the little hole where the barb has broken off, fill the radiator with coolant and then run the car up to temp. Once up to temp, shutdown the car and try to remove the fitting. *** Note - be careful you don't have a leak anywhere or that you don't have any big airlocks in the cooling system and be careful not overheat the engine! Cheers Drew
@@Dislxud_kid No problems. When you look inside the quick connector there is actually a rubber o ring and then a plastic tapered washer which fits absolutely perfectly inside the quick connector. The whole thing just pushes onto the barb. Cheers Drew
It's amazing how the Germans still continue to use plastic parts attached to Metal parts in heating system!! Mind boggling ! Our VW Gold is missing heat and I can't wait to find out what sort of plastic part has failed under the hood!
Hi Ameer, this car is actually my wifes daily drive so I couldn't wait, so I literally drove (in my Merc) to the closest Audi Service Centre the morning after it broke (it broke on a Sunday) with defective part in hand and once they opened asked them ever so politely to sell me one that wasn't broken! Also, given the criticality of this part I wouldn't recommend actually buying non-OEM anyway. Cheers Drew
Looks like your t connector was already replaced with an aluminum one otherwise it would have broke like mine did when moving that s shaped hose around lol😂

Great, 2 years later this video is still helping people like me. has explained exactly what has happened to my A3. Ordering the part later 🤞

Thanks so much for this. Had the same issue on my wife’s A3 and this saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of time!

Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your repair! Yes, unfortunately way too many plastic parts in these cars… Cheers Drew
thank you so much! had the issue on my VW cc and was able to fix it in roughly an hour. amazing! you saved me a trip to the mechanic!
Hi Michael, so glad this was helpful and a genuine thanks for the feedback!! Cheers Drew
What was the part number I have a 2011 vw cc and I can’t find it
Brilliant video! Just had this happen to a 2013 VW Beetle Turbo.
Cool, hope you get it sorted easily! Cheers Drew
Thank you for this. I need to do this on my 2012 EOS and you've given me some confidence that I can do this myself.
You can do it! Cheers Drew
Doing my 02 sensor and I just snapped that nipple off. Thanks man.
Bugger! Good luck with swapping the quick connect now! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt easy breezy cover girl thanks to your video
Thank you for the excellent coverage on this repair. I will use this information on my 2012 New Beetle. Stay well.

This happened to me to thank you for ithe instructional video helped me a lot 👍

Hello What is the 2nd hose called? That’s right underneath the one you replaced cause that’s the one that’s leaking for me
Thank you! Had this happen to the lower hose connector on my MK6 GTI 2011. The plastic barb snapped right off while i was driving and i stopped at a stop sign, and my engine is smoking!
Hi Mate, hopefully it is just steam from the coolant spraying straight onto the hot exhaust!! Good luck 🤞 Cheers Drew
Hi Drew thank you for making this video. Does the coolant need to be drained completely before performing this repair?
Hi Joel, no the coolant does not need to be fully drained. You will probably have lost a lot of coolant though, so make sure you top it up with the correct specification coolant! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Great, thank you for the info!
Thank you for this mr
This is great video thanks you mine cracked right at fire wall it was brass going on into fire wall
Just a pity this fitting is not made of brass …. For a few extra dollars from the manufacturer then it would never break!! Cheers Drew

was there an o ring on the other end of the heater matrix when removing the defect plastic connector?
No. There is an o ring inside the quick connector. Cheers Drew
