@@SAHBfan All Chicago cats. On piano, the late great Willie Pickens. On bass, Larry Gray. On drums, Leon Joyce. Larry and Leon were actually part of the Ramsey Lewis Trio at the time. Willie took over for the taping because Ramsey was playing host 😉 But, Ramsey played with them when starting the show, playing the opening theme music. Know for a fact because I was at the WTTW studio for most of the tapings of the series. I chatted with some of the crews, stage managers, and producers. One of the producers was Larry Rosen (of GRP Records’ Rosen) and Larry told me they already started putting together plans for the second season. I suggested some options, like doing jazz violin and harmonica. Larry said yes, violin for sure. I told him to make sure to book Chicago’s Johnny Frigo. However, never meant to be. It sadly got cancelled after one season. Oh well…
Nunca vou enjoar desta interpretação destes dois gigantes.
Two good ones!
RIP masters of the horn.
Phil comes in and his first two notes just show why he was better than Sandborn. His time and tone were spot on. Btw Sandborn is great as well.

Complete agreement! Beautiful sax work
But Arrangement ruins the incredible original feel of the song
Anyone any idea who the other guys on the stage are?
