Since this video was recorded, we've added Chinese, and Scottish Gaelic!

I'd recommend checking out Yochai Gal's excellent game/adventure review podcast, Between Two Cairns!
I listen every week!
I love Carin for running one-shots when introducing people to TTRPGs.
I've tried running longer multi-session games but when i do I tend to borrow the advancement rules from Into the Odd. I.e. after x number of adventures, roll 1d20 against each stat. If you roll over, increase by one. Also adding hp.
I got Mangayaw after your video and it is great. The magic system in that game is crazy. There is a new version of Cairn in the works that looks very nice.
really happy to hear you checked out Mangayaw!
Oh, Liminal Horror would be a good future episode! It is CAIRN rules but in a modern horror game so something closer to X-Files, Allan Wake or Supernatural. In particular you become more powerful by being 'changed' by the supernatural forces... so instead of going crazy (a la Cthulhu) you gain something weird and warped like 'a black crown only you can see' or 'awareness this is not actually the real world'.
Sounds very fun - will definitely check this out!
There is a new KS out and it looks cool i backed it, its called RuneCarin
Cairn is great, the trick I've found is to run it as is, but be VERY forgiving to players if they're acting in good faith, otherwise the game ends quickly once combat starts. It's great too ease new players into the game.
Since I wear this moniker... In the US, Cairn is often pronounced as Karen - it's not an English word. In the rest of the world, the "R" is silent and pronounced as Kain, but in some areas, the "A" is also silent and pronounced as Kin. It's a lot more complicated than this, but this is a simplified version.
Thanks.
I’m interested in playing this game but I had to change a few things. I have a copy and had to change a few of the character discretions due to some of them being problematic.
Do you mean the skin and such?
Those were borrowed from Knave and have been fixed in 2e I'm happy to say. You can see it in the playtest which is out now!
No, it was in regard to the face section. One of them is “rat-like” and that has a very troubled past. I replaced it with rakish to keep with the lettering convention.
@@LatheOfChaos good call, I'll change that as well!
@@LatheOfChaoshow h why is that problematic? It just means someone who is sly or sneaky
@@yagsipcc287 it was used during WWI to dehumanize people and incorporated into a lot of hateful propaganda.
There was no "in the top right corner" so there's no like!! xDD
😅😅😅

Yeah, not a fan of mechanics that skipped the ability to hit. It's one even further down the track for me from having parry, dodge or block mechanics before damage. I'm just not a fan of rolling for damage only systems, which is why I passed on "Into the Odd" or Matt Colville's recent Kickstarter. When I snagged "Cairn" I wasn't as well read on "Into the Odd" and wasn't aware of this mechanics. I don't want to rush through game play when I play and ttrpg personally. I'm more of a gamer in the vein of Me, Myself & Die's Trevor, a simulatest rpg gamer in other words. I'm appreciative of more styles of rpg though so I feel it's got a place within the ttrpg tent, even if its not one I want to run or play. 🙂
