- This is a collection of clips from my highest score in the marathon setting of The New Tetris for N64. There are spin moves, interesting arrangements, and incredibly fast-falling pieces. Enjoy!

this video has taught me so, so much. TNT64 is my favorite tetris game, and i thought i was good at it back in the day! after finding this video i realized i had a long way to go, and much yet to learn. i studied this video closely and tried to replicate the playstyle (center well with 2 cube towers), and it has propelled me to achieve my all time personal best score: 3,756 lines

This version of tetris was so far ahead of its time
This is really the best edition of Tetris I've ever seen or played, hands down. I remember playing a single marathon session for more than an hour sometimes. To keep up that long, that's a challenge at itself. You won't see that these days. How I miss that game (argh!), because it was stolen from me during a burglery, along with the console and other games.
My n64 got ruined so I can´t play this game anymore. I decided to download an emulator for my laptop and I'm playing this wonderful game. I know it is not the same feeling but at least I'm remembering a lot of fun
One of my favorite tetris games as well. I found out that the Tetris Worlds has multiple worlds- each with a different mechanic- the square mechanic being one of them. So, it's basically this game with other cool tetris games also.

That feel when you're doing amazing in a Marathon and suddenly the "2fast4u" cheat window pops up and forces you to restart... T_T
That's the replacement of the crash handler. Got it once when I unplugged the second controller from the N64 and then turned it on. Tried it again, and it didn't appear, just the Spinning N appearing, representing the game starting up.
Yeah, that was so annoying.
How did you unlock the background
I assume that's the very last - after unlocking Japan.
And here I was proud of my 653
So satisfying to watch. I used to love this game. Best Tetris version there was. As you played it would unlock the fly around videos of the different buildings.

I understand now. That is a result of the "spin move." If you complete a row using a spin move, it makes unusual things happen: The row above and below clear, and pieces then fall from above to fill in the gaps, resulting in a lot of clearing all at once.
A consequence of this occurrence is that you lose any blocks you made, which is why I said "There goes 60 points."
Oddly soothing. Man I remember this game and pokemon puzzle league! My favorites!

I know this will sound stupid but i'm really curious as to why the different pieces, when all combined in a square shape, turn a solid silver or gold color?
it's gold if you use 4 of the same piece to make the block, silver if you use different pieces to make a block.
great video. this game is still the only thing in my life that has caused people to break into my house when i wasn't there. just so they could play while I was at class. they went through a window...

One of the best games on N64. I would play this nonstop when I was little.
I wish they'd bring back the merge mechanic for competitive Tetris, could make for some interesting gameplay.

Squares are worth more lines. Therefore more garbage to your opponent.
I stumbled upon a picture in my phone from years ago when I got 824 lines. This was absolutely insane!

My best score is in the 800s. This is extremely impressive right here. Don't know how anyone would figure that out, but that's one INSANE score...

highest i ever got was the 5000s and that took about an hour and the pieces drop fast as hell
i know for sure i broke 9000 lines in this game and have the feeling i broke the 10000 barrier but cant recall for certain . but yeah its really tough , i played the game compulsively for over a year .

Some mistakes were made. That happens when playing for over an hour and a half. I've improved some of the techniques since making this video but I don't like to play marathon any more because it takes too long. I aim for high scores in sprint now.
I am not sure what you are asking, could you please clarify for me? To make the video, I only show a few interesting clips here and there since 6000 lines would take an hour and a half. Is that what you meant?

Hello. I have this awesome and fun game to but I've seen something on your video that I have a question about. At 3:33 when you turn the green piece to fit that hole. how come it makes all the blocks below into individual ones. is that random or is there a certain way to do that
Special spin moves like that make blocks below turn into individual pieces, it's a very great thing to do, especially if your board is very cluttered.

I always do something stupid with a Blue piece. I don't like those once it gets past an hour. Do you still make the cubes? Which method do you use past the hour and a half mark?
At 0:55 the thing you do with the green block, I don't understand how that can be done? I have never been able to do that myself. How is that trick performed?

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Check out some of the other videos people have posted, some have broken 10,000. I haven't made a go of it in a long time because it strains my hands to play fort so long.
This game feels like im making great art when creating gold blocks and gettin into an unconscious flow state which is extremely rare in games if you really think about it
what mode are you playing on because of all the blocks just randomly going into single form and disapering off the screan like 9 rows of them and your gold block going into its orignal form?
How are you able to do those -spins in modern Tetris entries???
I remember i had once 11k score, i was such in the mood to play it back then. I love now that my work stimulates as much as tetris back in the day whe i was very young. Must have done somthing right in my life :D
I know exactly how you feel especially near the end and when sometimes you get lucky and have some blocks that fall just right on their own giving you a bit of time to think. I was looking up the high scores that have been posted and I couldn't believe the scores i was seeing. I didn't know that the silver and gold blocks were so valuable. I looked at my overall scores and it shows 7000ish normal lines and 6000ish bonus lines. I looked those up and now i see why my scores have been so high. Normally i get 400-500 lines in 20-30 minutes and until last night my high score had been 663(i know so close) when I got 760 in 38 minutes. looked up the leveling system and it gets faster the longer you play, the faster you clear lines and the more silver/gold blocks you clear. My game was mainly collecting z and s blocks on one side and hooking L's together beside the I's and squares and getting tetris after tetris.

This is the "Factory" or "Boiler Room" or something like that. I think it has to be unlocked somehow. I am not entirely sure.
I remember watching this videos yeeeears ago. It used to have annotations where the guy gave us some of his thoughts throughout the game. Sadly that information is now gone
It has been a long time since I've even viewed the video myself, but I do think I remember some annotations.
I'm unsure why they would have been removed; I certainly have not made any changes to the video since posting it 14 years ago.

Ratings system is brutal at times. The fact it went from highest possible 30 DOWN to 23 is wack.

Yes I used to play this with my mother on the co-op split screen mode with my mother. We would both usually get 7k - 12k each before one of us would break. This is easily the best tetris game ever.
Do you always build silver and gold blocks on either side of the screen in the beginning? I've tried that but it always screws me up early. I have a system that builds gold and silver on one side only and all yellow greens and reds on the other. But my avg is only like 2k. I don't know how you do it

I think most of what I did can be done at any stage if done properly. It is just difficult to do when pieces are falling fast.

I used a DVD recorder. They are inexpensive and easy to use. The video game system p[lugs into the DVD recorder which plugs into the TV. Then just press record, and it creates a DVD of whatever video game you are playing. The DVD recorder needs to have tri-color (red/white/yellow) input, which most or all do. I then connect it to the TV using another tri-color cable.
Is the only purpose of the big blocks for score?

How do you get that red piece in there at about 0:23?? I cannot do it!
It's been a while since I've played - but if I recall, it's a simultaneous press of "up" (which drops the piece downward at maximum speed) and whichever button rotates the piece clockwise, this "squeezing" it into the space. That will not work on the right side of the game screen, but the similar move can be done on the right side with the green "Z" piece (which almost certainly occurs in this video as well).
at O;55 I perform the move with the green Z piece.

I found it very good and funny your video, you could explain to me how the functioning of rank in this game, just like in your video can sometimes go too well, I make around five thousand lilhas, and rank the veses falls.

Tetris. You place blocks and try to make complete lines from left to right to clear them, the more lines you clear at once being worth more than just one at a time.
The game gets faster the more lines you clear, and ends once a piece goes over the top of the screen.
Best 2 things about the game would have to be the music and then the graphics. That game has some really interesting songs.
Would you be willing to share your strategy? I've been playing for over ten years and if I'm lucky I break 3k I know there's gotta be a more efficient way to play please help
Best Tetris to ever be developed. Unfortunately the only platform I can play this on is the N64.

If you twist a landed block up under something and it forms a line across, then depending on which way you twist it you will either blockify upward or downward.
It's awesome when it happens in multiplayer but dreadful on solo at times.

not tryin to burst someones bubble but the amount of time it took for it to get fast doesn't add up, even with efficiency of how the pieces were used. the game gets faster the more pieces you put. it should have taken a half hour to get to where you got in about an entire hour, speed of pieces falling that is.
There’s a cheat code to make your screen a calidascope if I butchered the word oh well(screen saver.

You ever think about running this game again? I've gotten back into it - looking for competition for Marathon mode. I race to 5000 lines, best so far is 28:39, can find on my channel. Would love to see you play again
I'm very rusty, but I could probably get back into top form with some practice. It's been so long, I forget what my typical elapsed time would be for 5000 lines. 28:39 sounds like a very good score - I see at the 10:22 mark of my video, the elapsed time for 6590 lines was just over 94 minutes! Granted, I may have been just surviving for the final hour and not making any cubes, but still...
Okay, looking at the title of one of my other videos, I see "1000 lines in 9+ minutes", which means you've got me smoked with 5000 lines in 28:39. AT the time of this video, I am not sure I had learned a lot of the crucial tricks; I cannot quite recall because it has been so long.
EDIT - Oh, I just realized that back then, I was not even making cubes on both sides! Wow.
And then, relatively early on, I focused most of my attention on sprint, trying to come somewhere close to Amagilly's 868 score. I never did. I think my best was 700-something.
@@Frank_Jones314 So Amagilly still actively runs this game, there's a couple folks consistently hitting the 800s in sprint, but yeah it would be cool to strech the limits in marathon too... You still have a console?

he keeps tryna make boxes he doesnt see before hand, thats y he keeps finding himself waiting for various peices and he cant get them in time and the board gets shitty

My brother's friend was amazing at this game.. She would play on hardest difficulty and could play an hour long game.. sometimes 2.

@frankJShark well you make a silver block at one point and it turns silver and then back into the 4 blocks that made it and you say there went 58 lines and at another point about 6 lines from the very bottom all turned inot little single 1 blocks then disapered and it said damn there goes another 60 points
This game's awesome, and my record is over 16,000 lines, but everytime I get close to finishing all 7 wonders, I get this white screen w/ a code (2fast4u) and I lose my game data. It happened to me just yesterday. Anybody else had that problem?
