Recently (January 2023) I had to replace my garage door's extension springs. A friend was kind and generous enough to help me. We followed the instructions in your videos, and as a result, the job was completed without problems. Thank you VERY much for making these videos.

The new extensions springs for my garage door included safety cables. The instructions for the safety cables were nearly useless.
Thank you for the simple and clear video. My garage door is safer as a result.

I sure do appreciate folks like yourself who post "How to" videos for folks like me. I thank you. I just bought my first house and I wish you could see the potential of this place that was built while Edison was alive but the entire house had someone who certainly had no idea what they were doing in it before I got here and likely didn't use or have internet. With that being said, a wide shot then the close up of what you are doing might help the helpless such as myself. I know that is a lot of editing so I still applaud you if you never do it.
    Thanks again!

Best wishes for your new home. Thank you for the constructive criticism, I am always trying to improve the videos. This was an early video, so it's a little rough. It is difficult to get a wide shot while inside a single car garage. I will keep your suggestion in mind for future videos. BTW - There are over 200 videos, organized by playlist on the channel. If you have a few moments, click on the channel name to check it out. Subscribing is free and you will easily be able to find all of the videos, they will not always come to the top of your search list.

Helpful info and unusual pronunciation of iron. It's "eye-urn", not "eye-run". But I got the point. ;)

I just wanted to thank you for these videos. I just replaced my garage door springs, both sides. I also installed new safety cables, pulleys and pulley cables. Your videos were so helpful, and made the job so much easier. For less than a hundred dollars, I did a job a professional would have charged $500 to do. Thanks again, I'll be sure to check out some of your other videos.

I need to add the safety cables since there was none when I bought my house. I am a pretty handy person when it comes to repairs and maintenance around the house, however, hopefully your video will make things much easier. I have already replaced the rubber seal at the bottom of the door. Thank you for sharing.

Very good video, explanation was very detailed and understandable. Viewers might want to see what a failed spring looks like in action. It happened to me. I was carrying my child in the line of sight just seconds before it broke... we were lucky, but it was heart stopping. This should be required, not optional.

A lot of new springs come with the safety cable, but just a cheap one with no ends. If you don't have ends, you can "tie" it just like how you terminated the end on the lifting cable, except you can do that right in the metal mounting track mounting brackets because it already has tons of holes to feed the wire through.

This video will help me install the safety cables myself. One question...the safety cable sold by our local Home Depot has one looped end only and the other does not have a loop or clip, it has a cable stop secured on it only. How should I install this end? Is there a missing part I need to buy? Thank you!

I looked at HD's cables, is it the Everbuilt one with the cylinder on the end of it? Here's the link: www.wireropes.co.nz/resources/wire-rope-clip-use-guide
If yes, there is an instruction sheet on the HD page, step 3 says: Attach flat bracket with 5/16 inch bolt (not included) on the free end of the cable to the frame support. www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/89/894bc9d0-3793-463e-94f7-e49e3fa8a778.pdf
I am translating their instruction to mean that you should buy a cable adjustment clip (shown at :49 of the video) and attaching it to the non loop end of the cable. Then bolting the cable adjustment clip to the frame support (as I suggest in the video).
Two other suggestions, you could buy a wire rope clip (probably less than $1) Run the non loop cable through to holes on the frame support (cut off/remove the metal cylinder) and use the rope clip (I don't think you need to use 3 rope clips, just one) to secure the cable end: www.wireropes.co.nz/resources/wire-rope-clip-use-guide
Or perhaps you can again remove the cylinder, loop the cable through two holes in the frame support and tie it, sort of like this:
      www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.homerepairtutor.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F07%2FPlace-a-Reference-Mark-on-the-Steel-Safety-Cable.png&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.prettyhandygirl.com%2Fhow-to-replace-garage-door-extension-springs-guest-post-home-repair-tutor%2F&docid=vDtR2KoKeho88M&tbnid=x8bgaGJKx2-DiM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjfwbuR65jXAhWD7YMKHZ0jDuMQMwhoKAMwAw..i&w=587&h=455&bih=589&biw=1366&q=fasten%20garage%20door%20lift%20cable&ved=0ahUKEwjfwbuR65jXAhWD7YMKHZ0jDuMQMwhoKAMwAw&iact=mrc&uact=8

Thank you so much! Your video and above reply are very helpful indeed! I went to HD and purchased 1/8" cable clips and thimble to create a nice loop on the free end of the cable. I have now the option of just inserting it through a hole in the frame support or attaching it to an S hook which I also purchased. I think the S hook will be easier for my type of hardware. Thanks for providing the link to the proper way to secure the clips on the cable; I never would have known there is a right way to do it! LOL. Minor correction to your comment above... here is the correct link to the HD Everbilt cable I used: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-8-ft-Garage-Door-Safety-Cable-5020A31/202088368 HD does not sell a flat bracket separately, that would have been simpler to use with an S hook. Thanks again!

Call a local door company and ask for their labor rate, minimum charge & how they charge you for travel time. Ask for an estimate. It would be great if you would post what you find out.... it may be helpful to other viewers.
